“I did not know that Cornwallis was a Marquis, so excuse my ignorance. I did know that he lost the War of American Independence and surrendered 8,000 British soldiers and all their arms at Yorktown, Virginia in 1781. He called in sick to the surrender ceremony though, brave man that he was, allowing his second in command to turn over his sword to General Washington. So it was particularly gratifying to enjoy a pint in this pub. Not to worry, though - Cornwallis kicked my Catholic ancestors' collective asses in Ireland during the rebellion of 1798. Anyway, I digress. The pub itself is large and very atmospheric. two rooms downstairs, maybe more upstairs, with a very long bar in the main room, which also has lots of large windows through which one may observe the local street life. It's a quiet street, though, a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Bloomsbury.“

“Down a set of stairs at the side of the building on the north side of Bloomsbury Square Garden, it's a bit of a maze to get to the bar, and it's not a particularly excitable selection of US and Mexican beers once you arrive. I guess if you're bowling here then it's a little better than most venues of this ilk, but you wouldn't make a beeline to come here just to drink.“

“A block north of the main road midway between Tottenham Court Road and Holborn, this traditionally decorated urban pub is quite nice inside, but on a packed May night showing the live Champions League game seats were at a premium, in fact I didn't get one and had to stand for my Greene King craft beer arm bottle I ordered, which cost about £5. Most of the clientele were tourists partaking in an evening meal. There's an upstairs too but I didn't make it there. The Greene King cask offerings were often seen ones.“

“Visited late 7/1/2019. Nice interior. Sofas are mixed in with wooden tables, chairs and some high stools. Black and cream floor tiles. 5 cask beers, we had the Frosted Jack from Dorset Brewing. Not a lot of guests at our visit.“

“Visited on tour to 22 southern counties with OGJ and EE 07.01.19. Five ales on cask, all served without sparklers. Also several interesting cask beer, including fresh lagers from Meantime. Riffraff-music in the background. Noisy, even with few punters at our visit.“

“Popped in here, as it looked like they occasionally have Goddards on cask. No luck this time. Cask lines are well kept. Kit hen not always open. Jazz/blues music. But beware the creepy Ceramic clowns atop the bar...yikes!“

“Visited 19/4/2018. Large, busy pub with a few ales and reasonable selection of cans/bottles but nothing particularly thrilling. Out of date chalk board of now sold out beers looked a lot more interesting than what was actually on tap on this visit. Staff were ok. Sunny spot for on street drinking available. Quite pricey.“

“Small GK pub serving 4 real ales and surprisingly on this visit this included a beer from the Isle of Wight, which is the first time I've ever seen an Isle of Wight beer in London other than at festivals. So credit due for that! Otherwise it's an old style corner boozer, certainly has its charm and appears popular judging by how busy it was on this visit. So worth a look if passing by to see what other guests ales they might have on to replace Fuggle-Dee-Dum.“

“Have visited a couple of different times. Very food focused pub. Has a range of 8 cask ales, a few are GK though more than half are not and are from smaller brewers mainly. Other taps are uninteresting as are most of the bottles, though 1 or 2 of the ciders were of interest. Service was good and atmosphere lively on both visits, with most people in to eat. Not a beer destination, but a decent pub overall.“

“Nice old pub with a large attractive heritage style central bar interior, which is nice to look at but a little impractical as it only takes about 8 to 10 drinkers standing at the bar to take up almost the whole main service area. Reasonable selection of taps, a mix of Youngs and mainstream London craft, though not being able to get to the front bar I did find a Hiver tucked away at the very small service area at the back (my London 'brewer' #77). Plenty of seating available plus upstairs Empire bar & dining room. A decent pub overall. Quite expensive even by local standards.“

“Situated in a nice street amongst boutique shops, and worth a visit if in area especially as they are still offering up Bloomsbury Brewery beers despite RB saying not in production (will check next time if they are still brewed on the premises or by another Brewery). About 15 taps in total with some other beers of interest amongst otherwise standard brews. Service ok, prices usual for the area.“

“Visited August 2017. Just found it by accident, when we were looking for a place to have some lunch. Very cosy, old style pub, placed in a narrow street / small square from the main street. Very friendly staff, lots of seatings and a few outside as well. Being a Green King pub, mainly their own beers, had a few seasonal. Beers served in good condition. Foodwise traditionel pub menu, very good value for the money. For sure in my mind for lunch another time. If you want a local pub and nice food in the middle of London, this could be an option.“

“Underneath the Tavistock Hotel with the entrance at its side, the stairs go down over a few stages, first passing karaoke rooms, then the shoe exchange for the bowling, then the bar at the very end. The bowling lanes are next to here. There’s not cask here, but the keg lines offer up a few decent options, and you might find the odd bottle of interest here, including cider from Cornish Orchards. It as an active entertainment venue so don’t expect a pub atmosphere down here.“

“In the south-west corner of Queen Square, this is a traditional pub on the corner of a long large terrace row. There’s not a lot of room inside, although there’s picnic tables at its side and in the pedestrianised street out front (there may be an upstairs too but I didn’t venture there if there was). Expect a choice of a couple of Greene King ales that you’ve almost certainly seen before.“

“In the middle of the pedestrianised Cosmo Place, a narrow street off the south-west corner of Queen Square, this is a Taylor-Walker pub with a comfortable traditional style. There’s a long row of real ales, quite worthy, but unless you’re a visitor from out of town you might find a lot of regular ales from microbreweries in here.“

“Lovely looking traditional corner pub with a decent cask selection. It’s right opposite the entrance to the British Museum so probably does well from the daily footfall here and it serves food too. It has a well kept mix of wooden and soft furnished fixtures and fittings around a bar its side wall.“

“Lively pub opposite Great Ormond Street hospital. Traditional in design but it feels like it has a modern edge to it. They had a couple of their own beers on when I arrived, guests feature here too including keg options.“

“Well appointed traditional pub with a nice ambiance to it. It’s run by Youngs, but their own ales are complimented by guests on a long row of cask on the front side of the horseshoe bar that takes up a considerable amount of space in its front part. There’s a decent amount of seats front and side and although I didn’t get there a garden too.“

“Ventured in here on a hot sunny Friday night in June 2016, as such most of the crowd were using the outside spaces available and I did find a seat inside. It’s a traditional pub given a slightly modern edge to it with a heavy use of dark wood and purples throughout. Food is served and the bar along the back wall includes a very good mix of cask and craft keg.“

“Visited a few times. Nice cosy place, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. They do both their own beers as well as guest beers. Normally served in good condition. They do a few bar snack as well as main meals. Nice pit stop between the Euston Tap and Craft Co Clerkenwell. On our latest visit they didn’t have any of their own beers on.. Free Wi-Fi..“

“Popped in to catch the football. Traditional pub with an older crowd. Nice enough bartender. Good selection of beers from area craft brewers, but not exactly a beer destination. They brew some rather pointless beers of their own. They make a big deal about their barbeque, but the sandwich I had was all bread and nacho cheese, and the chips were criminal. A place with plenty of potential, but half-assed execution.“

“A brewpub in Bloomsbury established in August 2015 with the microbrewery in the cellar of the pub. A medium sized, street corner pub in two floors, L-shaped main room. A rather traditional, old fashioned British pub with decent food options, gin bar menu, and a beer menu of 12 kegs and four cask ales added by a quite a few bottled beers. Two of the Bloomsbury brews on cask at my visit. The keg menu has beers from London breweries like Kernel and Camden. Classic blues music in the background. Friendly service spontaneous offering tasters of their own beers. Quiet and relaxing early on a Monday afternoon. Close to, actually in the same street, as the well-known Youngs pub Lamb (visited 11.04.2016).“

“An alright pub. This place is home to the Bloomsbury Brewery. Some of the Bloomsbury beers are OK, while some are atrocious. Beyond the house offerings, there are some decent options, such as Kernel, Camden and Beavertown. You can order a flight of three 1/3 pours, which is good. The place itself has a fairly warm, classic pub feel about it. The prices are average. The staff is decent; when I returned an abysmal Bloomsbury beer, which was undrinkable, I was given a replacement, which I asked for; however, I couldn’t get one of the "expensive" keg beers, according to the barmaid, since my returned cask beer didn’t fall into that lofty category. Kind of annoying, given that I was served dogshit, but anyway.

Given the central location, I would say a visit here is worthwhile, although you might want to get a sample of any Bloomsbury beers before ordering.“

“Nice English pub. Very lively when we visited but the world cup rugby was on. 3 own beers on tap, plus a selection of local beers ( kernel, Camden etc). Friendly and efficient service. Worth a stop in if you’re passing, probably not worth a major detour.“

“Visited on a Thursday evening in September 2015. Situated on a nice street not far from Bottledog this is a big corner pub. Lots of nice features, had big screens with the rugby on. I was more interested in the board with the beer list. 3 of their own beers brewed on premises plus a good range of Camden Town. London Brewing and a Kernel beer on keg. All beers I found to be good and in great condition. They offer a tasting flight of 3 3rds of their own beer which was helpful. Staff were very friendly and quick. All in all a decent pub, a welcome addition to the London brewpub scene. Worth a look in I think!“

“A well-kept, one-room, British pub in a pedestrian passage just off Southampton Row and close to British Museum where I came from. Eight cask ales, most of them from London breweries. All together 12 keg beers including the fizzy stuff. Some craft beers on bottles as well. The cask beers I had, from Truman, Eton & Windsor, Hop Stuff, Hammerton and Summer Wine, were all in excellent condition. Friendly and attentive service. A little patio on the pavement outside. Should not be missed (visited twice on 11.07.2015).“

“A pleasant Victorian pub just down the road from the famous Lamb, with a much better range of beers available. They brew their own, but none were evident on my visit, but there was a good selection from other local brewers: Camden, London Fields, Kernel, etc. Seems to be popular with staff from the Great Ormond Street Hospital across the road.“

“A pretty fun place. They’ve got eight bowling lanes, a diner-style restaurant and a bar with a small selection of craft beer. You can get things like Camden Town, Lagunitas, Meantime, Sierra Nevada, etc. This place is popular with young folks - perhaps not surprising given that University College London is in the same neighbourhood. The bowling is fun. The restaurant serves simple food and does an OK job with it (burgers, pizza, etc.). This is not a beer destination in and of itself, but you can come here to roll and drink something decent.“

“We last visited here probably 8-9 years ago, so this visit on Saturday 4th October 2014 was a nice opportunity to visit an old haunt of ours. We used to come here in the days before we had a campervan and when we used to stop in the local area, crikey how things change the beer world in London is almost unrecognisable since that last visit. Young’s no longer brew and pubs like this even with about 10 handpumps on offer are rarely visited by the beer enthusiast, because there is a better choice and to be honest much better beers available elsewhere. However my beer a simple Young’s Gold or similar was in very good condition and I enjoyed it. The pub is bearing up well, interior wise it’s still very pleasant and from an historical point of view well worth visiting. Staff were friendly and service was good. We were followed in by a group of 6-8 Octogenarians, who were having a lovely time out, one of the elderly but sprightly gang lamenting the loss of Young’s as a brewing force and another equally elderly and sprightly individual who when asked what he wanted replied quite innocently to his friend ’a pint of Waggle Dance’ to which his friend replied, ’I am not getting you one of them’ in a disgusted tone that would have hardly been equalled if the poor chap had informed him that he had been playing away from home with the bloke’s wife for these last 50-60 years, but it was really amusing to listen to. But they were having a great time and we listened to them a little more before continuing our Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury stroll. By the way, this place is close to Great Ormond Street and stacks of other places that I could reel off but that would be going into my walk territory. I need to keep reminding myself to go to places like this, it isn’t all about fantastic beers, sometimes just a good beer in a very characterful and historic pub is every bit as fun.“

“Visited several times in the past, with my parents as well. Even one year New Years Eve, where there were a free buffet, disco and a smoke mashine :-).. This is a great place to visit after a visit at the British Museum, because this place is as wel, al kind of walking down the history lane. One can´t stop thinking about which great people have visited this pub, reading in thick books drinking their pint :-). The beers is OK, but not the fancy thing about this pub ;-). But I am pretty sure I will go there for a pint next time I visit British Museum :-)“
