Boston Beer Guide: Your Boston guide to beer, beer bars, breweries and brewpubs

“Usually very busy, which is annoying, but bartenders are usually pretty attentive. There's USUALLY at least one good/interesting beer on draught, but not always. Certainly plenty of ticks, if that's what you're looking for. I'd go to Row 34, Trillium and even Pastoral 100% of the time over going here, unless there's something special on tap. They do update their taplist regularly and often, which is a plus. Food is decent-to-good. A fine place.“

“Visited in May 2023. As others also said, huge place with numerous tables inside and outside. Very good food and abundant options for beer. The decoration is quite sterile and chic; I guess that's what corporate style is. Must visit any time I'm in Boston.“

Boston Bottle (Beer Store)

“Visited on a Monday afternoon. Located right by the harbor near the North End. Mostly a wine store, but had a great selection of craft 4 packs in the back cooler. All sorts of New England breweries to choose from and they had several Other Half beers as well. Not a deep selection, but high quality and well chosen. Service was great, I asked about local Oktoberfest beers, and they had all the answers. Great spot to hit if you are in the area. (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Cool spot right near my companies temporary office. Will have to take advantage while we are here. Food was decent cool selection of appetizers and make steak frites was ok little salty. Beer list has some heavy hitters brewery wise, hill farmstead, fox farm,.etc. 35 drafts lines. Prices high for some drafts But that the area and the selection.“

“Stopped in after work for a flight. The decor inside is quite cool I like the architecture like being in refurbished train station or cellar. Staff was friendly. Beers are just ok but at least a few different styles on offer more like early 2000s tap list.“

“Surprised to find this on here! Well, this was on my itinerary as somewhere to get a quick photo and move on, but as we arrived they were just about to open so we went inside anyway. Has an authentic Boston bar feel I guess, original decor is intact, quite a cosy feel. We grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a cider, not expecting much but pleasantly surprised by it. $10 a pint, mind. One woman at the bar juggling orders, pouring and paying and seemingly enjoying it. When it came to pay she asked if wanted to take the glass home, I suppose many do but I can't say I was ever a fan of the show. For a tourist place i guess it operates well as a bar. Would recommend taking a look. Box ticked.“

“2022 New England Beer Tour, Stop 12 of 12, Oct. 17, lunch. Trillium was scheduled to be our first stop a week earlier, but we didn’t see the announcement about a private event on social media a day before the event and arrived to locked doors. Oh well. It was an elegant place to conclude the journey even though there’s next to no convenient parking and local private garages will cost you more than a round of beers for every hour you park in them. Chalk it up to city drinking. Fort Point is a very nice location with good food choices to go along with about 20 taps (full and half pours – nice option) and another 10 bottles. Those tasted were excellent. There was a big selection of to-go beers at high prices (4-packs of 16-oz cans worked out to $4 to $6 per can) and a middling selection of T shirts and hoodies. Worth the visit. “

“Location is great, gets crowded but service is quick (just be ready to hunt for a spot for a bit if you get a flight without a plan. As for beer, it's Sam Adams - they have some experimental stuff here (I had a grodziskie, which was actually pretty good), and it's Sam Adams so you know the quality will be in a pretty narrow band of perfectly fine. I'm going to rate this very highly because Sam Adams is so iconic and it's nice to see them experimenting. YMMV.“

“Stopped by on a Saturday night. A bit of a shitshow in terms of busy-ness, but got a seat at the bar quickly and the bartenders' service was prompt and accurate. They do half-pours, no flights, but you can get flight-like with the half pours. The beer itself - it's Trillium. Great hazies, great boozy as hell stouts, smoothie sours if you are in the mood, all here and all very good. Also got food, shoutout to the spicy chicken sandwich (all the food I had was well-executed). Obviously very much worth a stop, terrific beer.“

“Stopped in prior to a game. Managed to get a table. Clubby atmosphere but lots of pool tables, shuffle board and ping pong all things I love if with group could be fun for sure. Food was actually delicious. Had a Korean style fried chicken in a bao bun. Handful of drafts had one and it was decent enough and in style I wanted. Full bar.“

“Just discovered this spot. Bit of bodega vibe but you don’t come here for ambiance. Huge selection of some interesting stuff. Scattered all over. You can break four packs apart. Didn’t seem overly pricey. Right near my office so illl be back for sure. No service but that was nice not get pestered for help while I search phone for stats.“

“Nice brewpub in downtown Boston. Right by the Commons and Theater District. Large open space with a long bar and tables. Unfortunately they were out of a few things from a busy weekend. But still solid beers, more on the low abv side. Although my favorite was a IIPA. They have a short food menu with some appetizers, salads, burgers/sandwiches. Poutine was a little subpar. Overall an enjoyable place and hope to try more of their beers.“

“Excellent location right next to Faneuil Hall and the North End, easily accessible by the T. It's a large place that can get crowded. There are 2 downstairs bars. The initial bar area is pretty basic with a U-shaped bar and small tables on the side. Then you go slightly more downstairs and there is a long straight bar as well as German beer hall style tables and a "bleachers" area with cushions and small tables. There is an upstairs I haven't seen and also an upstairs patio. And a separate merchandise area. Pretty crazy but you should still get a seat somewhere. They have TVs. There is a separate area to order/pick up food (the menu is limited- snacks like pretzels, nachos and they have some small thin crust pizzas). The draught menu is surprisingly good. They have about 6 regulars (Boston lager, wicked hazy, etc). Then they have a number of "exclusives" which are brewed only in this taproom. And a couple others for a total of 20 taps. Most are low abv but they have a good array of styles. I wasn't expecting this to be a great craft beer destination but they definitely have plenty of good taproom only beers and it's in a great location as well.“

“Fairly upscale restaurant vibe though with a minimum food selection. The beer though is all Trillium which is imho some of the best available. Only downside are the high prices.“

“Near my office I’m thankful for that. Lots of taps and plenty of rates available. Managed two new breweries always a top priority. Some basic stuff but that’s needed for corporate clientele. Decent decor again a little corporate but I work for corporation and brought coworkers here so not one to speak. Food is pretty good. I will be back for sure.“

“One of my favorite brewpubs in Boston. Right on the water, a very large space, with a large bar and plenty of tables. Lots of TVs, very open ambiance. Outdoor seating as well. Really awesome beers, my favorites were the peanut butter porter and coffee porter. They also had some really good IPAs. They have food - snacks, sandwiches, and detroit style pizza. I enjoyed the pizza. Overall, great beer, good food, a nice place to hang for awhile.“

“Top notch brewpub in Boston, probably one of the best. A large space, but it was packed on a Saturday afternoon. There is outdoor seating and indoor, plus a long bar. I was lucky to get a seat at the bar. The beers are excellent, lots of interesting styles, high gravity barrel aged beers and sours. Even their NE IPA was top notch. Really can't go wrong here - just plan to drink a lot (and spend a lot $). Food menu also superb - had an eggplant curry appetizer which was phenomenal and a grain bowl with chicken. Must stop in Boston.“

“Brewpub near Fenway. Has a bar/club atmosphere, ID'ed at the door, actually it is next to a club. Pretty crowded/busy atmosphere. Beers were fairly underwhelming as well. They do have some guest drafts as well. Only shining spot was the food - Moroccan steak tips with Greek yogurt, delicious! I don't think I'd go back for the beer itself (or the atmosphere), but the food was good.“

“Made it to another of my "Mecca" breweries! Unfortunately it was on a Tuesday (no food) and I only landed at Logan at 5:15, so It was all a bit rushed, but so be it. First things first; be prepared to bleed out the nose if you have a car; 18$ for an hour of parking. There is a metro stop basically AT Trillium, which would be a much better approach but I didn't do my homework. Open space with a large outdoor courtyard and a spacious interior as well. They had many many taps. I didn't count but surely more than two dozen. Loads of IPA/Pale Ales as you might expect, but also a healthy smattering of sours, dark things and lawnmower beers. A bit of a downer is no flights and no half pours. Ticker hell, particularly since I hadn't eaten all day to that point. Service prompt and friendly. To go list is always changing but is extensive; They had at least a dozen four packs and multiple bottles. Not counting the (fucking) seltzers. The two IPA's I tried were actually a tad harsh, but the BA stout was excellent, and I know that Trillium is more than capable of hoppy greatness as well.“

“Came here on 19.7.2021. Located next to Red Sox stadium and not far from Trillium. Typical Yard House. Shame they had no Trillium or other great locals on the tap list. Food, beer and service was solid as always.“

“Came here the first time on 19.7.2021. Located very close to the Red Sox stadium. Simple small building with plenty of room in the patio. On the backside they have a nano brewing equipment (guess it is a license thing). Serving around 8 beers to drink on site and for sure 20 cans and bottles for take away. Of course prices are quite high (10 $). Only thing I disliked is that they are serving their great beers only out of plastic cups. Hope that’s still related to Covid regulations but not sure. Seems that’s a bad recent trend to avoid dishwashing and create even more plastic (at least you can purchase an aluminum cup for 12$ - to gage the volume they first poor it into a plastic cup though...quite insane).“

“Good sized craft beer selection at the back of the store. Excellent selection of bottles from all over, good selection of more local cans. Picked up a few interesting New England beers. I think the selection is probably more exciting for locals, as the stuff from far away was more interesting than the local beer selection.“

“Small building with a decent sized outside space by the Time Out Market near Fenway Park. Beer selection is outstanding, both on draft and to go. Staff were very friendly. “Came here on 29.10.2019. Very nice set up in a kind of industrial vault. Brewhouse on the lower floor to the left, long bar and dark wooden floor. They had around 8 beers on tap. Had the Dunkles Weissbier and the dry-hopped IPA. Glassware was a bit weird. Served the Weissbier in a small mug. Beer quality was overall just ok. Fish and Chips were disappointing and service slow but friendly.“

“I came here on 3.10.2019. Located at the seaport of Boston. The actual brewery is outside of Boston, but they do have small kettles for group events. Nice wooden bar and friendly service. A bit of a corporate atmosphere, but not terrible. Almost 20 beers on tap. I had a Mosaic IPA and a Milkshake IPA, both were mediocre.“

“Located in north end very close to the Boston Garden right on the water. It’s an open space built on modernist principles with lots of exposed ductwork and bright colors. They have a prominent oval bar area with TVs tuned to the big game as well as a separate dining area and a fairly decent size pilot brewing setup. They had 30 different beers on tap so there’s plenty of choice. It’s was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon which is not surprising given the Pats game was on and they service was still fairly attentive.“
