Pint Shop (Bar)
10 PEAS HILL,
“Pleasantly laid back bar in the middle of Cambridge city centre. More oriented towards keg as opposed to cask, my pint of porter was near perfect. I don't always get the vibe for these places but this establishment is a yes from me.“

“A soulless modern pub, sadly indicative of so many boozers in Britain these days. Six or seven casks available, nearly all Adnams but the quality was spot on. Oddish fellow behind the bar (landlord?), who insisted on telling me how well kept his ales were, yes I agree but I don't want a half hour lecture on the subject.“

“Very crowded pub, understandable considering the location, but at least it has some character to it. Beer range mediocre, Greene King brews and the odd guest ale. I would have enjoyed it more without the hustle and bustle of tourists and daytrippers.“

“Generic Nicholson's pub in the historic centre, mostly pale ales on the weaker side. It's ok I suppose for a swift half but not a go to pub if you're visiting Cambridge.“

“Nicer than I expected it to be, pubs opposite train stations can be very marmite. Young's ales on, not my favourite tipple but the pint I had was more than decent. Good pit stop while you wait for a train, if you have sufficient time combine this with The Old Ticket Office.“

“Neighbourhood wine / beer shop on a very busy road full of independent restaurants and shops. Had to park on double yellows on a nearby street as very much no parking anywhere near the shop. Chap manning the fort was blasting Dream Theatre, which I wasn't expecting. Wine takes up the front part of the shop, beer at the rear. Quite a wide-ranging variety of worldwide breweries, with some real finds to be had. Small range of cider. I noticed a grot box of out-of-date beers by the till, so salvaged quite a few at a knock-down price. Prices reasonable. Nice little place.“

“If you're walking around Cambridge this is a shop you'll likely pass at some point. As soon as you enter you get the impression the beating heart of this place is wine, but there is a fridge and some shelves with a half decent selection of beer. I wasn't drinking that day, so picked up an alcohol-free Chouffe. Some Little Pomona ciders. Some Belgian and German. Should be a can or two here for most.“

Pint Shop (Bar)
10 PEAS HILL,
“Slap bang in the centre of Cambridge, surrounded by burger joints, Italian pizza and general eateries, with Brewdog a couple of doors down too. I only know of Pint Shop through their short-lived Birmingham outpost and this has a very similar feel, with toilets also located two floors up, same artwork on the walls, bar and dining area split, although basic pub food can be served in the bar area. We got a burger to share and toasted sourdough with garlic butter, both very decent. Large tap list, with Nene Valley heavily represented. Prices at the higher end (£7.20 a pint of cheaply fruited 4% cider) but otherwise a good array of cask / keg centred around haze, fruit sour and average strength stout.“

Thirsty (Beer Store)
46 CHESTERTON ROAD
“Cosy neighbourhood wine bar / craft beer place relatively close to central Cambridge. Every table had reserved signs for later on so seems to be popular. Lots of foreign students here on our visit, mostly drinking hot mulled wine. Impressive tap list, chalked onto a blackboard on the wall. All styles covered. I got a Crossover mixed ferm, Pastore sour and some Polly's haze. A few double fridges with a good range of breweries, some expensive big bottles. Some lesser spotted US imports with truly awful sounding flavour combinations. Pretty much ticks all the boxes for a good craft bar, with the addition of good wine options too.“

Pint Shop (Bar)
10 PEAS HILL,
“Quite large spreading over several floors. However the ground level bar room was fully packed in the evening and somewhat chaotic. About 15 beers on tap, nothing too special, but plenty of new stuff for me. Worth checking out.“

Maypole (Bar)
20A PORTUGAL PLACE,
“This establishment struck me as odd, not sure if I would classify it as pub. Large patio outside with roof. Bar room looks a bit like canteen, seemed very family and kids friendly. Good selection of cask beers + even more bottled beer. Some beers I haven't seen around. Friendly service. Gets quite crowded in the evening.“

Next one please!“

Maypole (Bar)
20A PORTUGAL PLACE,
“Large interior, at least two rooms. Sadly the weather wasn't conducive to sitting outdoors. Lounge bar had just half a dozen or so beers, looks like many taps were just out. Lots of tables were reserved for food. Good service. Worth a look.“

“Very friendly place that lives up to its name. L-shaped bar with a handful of stools and the rest are restaurant tables. Six casks, but I was after the ciders and perries, six of which are nicely kept in bag-in-boxes in a fridge on the side of the bar; I would have missed the board that lists them had I not asked. There was a separate board listing the craft beers but I didn't pay any attention, and couldn't see it from where I was sitting. Bartender knew the beers and ciders well and she had good advice. Inexpensive. Solid place.“

“Small place on a main drag surrounded by restaurants and bars. Wine is the main feature here but in the back is a wall of craft beer and a decent selection of cider. Emphasis mis on stuff from the continent, but there's enough UK stuff as well. Prices not bad.“

Pint Shop (Bar)
10 PEAS HILL,
“This place is actually pretty huge. The bar is on your left as you enter, but carry on and up the stairs to the dining area. There is a third floor as well, probably dining, hard to tell because it was empty. The bar on the ground floor was mostly full but comfortable. Serving bar plus restaurant tables, chalkboards scattered all over the bar list the beers, so you might find new beers by looking around a bit. Good variety of cask ales, a cask cider and over a dozen craft taps. Hot & cold bar snax in between meal times. Staff knew the beers well. No flights but some beers come in thirds (the really pricey ones). Well worth a few hours of your time.“

Elm Tree (Bar)
16A ORCHARD STREET
“Every inch of this pub is covered in something. Belgian provincial flags cover the ceiling, for instance. Just three people there besides me on a Friday afternoon having a deep discussion of their therapy sessions. Bartender was friendly and had good recommendations. The cask coffee porter I had was very tasty. Pleasant place.“

“The theme here is jazz, as evidenced not only by the soft background music, but also from the musical instrument tap; handles. Two rooms, on your left for drinking and on your right for dining. Taplist was just OK - I had ha everything before bhasnd. Food.“

“Finally a pub where everybody was at least 30 years younger than me. Central serving bar with two rows of casks. Tons of restaurant tables in two rooms plus a back garden with picnic tables. Wooden penis hanging behind the bar, I'm not sure whose it is. Two coolers filled with Belgian beers just across from the soor as you walk in. Food looked good but I did not eat. Service just OK. Dog friendly. Must return.“

“Two rooms filled with regulars. All Milton beers on the tap handles, and I commented that I couldn't tell the styles simply by the names. Barman said That's what I'm here for. He chose a stout for me that was pretty decent.“

“The indoor taproom is in a small building just across an alley from the brewhouse - you can peek in and see the brewing equipment. The taproom itself is small with a modern decor. Small serving bar and lots of bar tables and restaurant tables. Pretty empty on a Thursday early evening, and the bar person said that's always the case. 12 house beers on tap and more in cans in the fridges behind the bar; staff knew them pretty well. No flights, but they do thirds and halves. All the beers I had were very tasty indeed. Glad I chose an Airbnb a block away. Oh and food was grilled cheese sandwiches though I did not partake.“

“The Brewdog bar in Cambridge is located in the main tourist part of town not far from River Cam and the most famous University Colleges. Spread over two floors with the main bar at the entrance offering about 30 craft beers on tap, many Brewdog collabs at out stay. Their draught beer menu is supported by fridges with craft beer bottles and cans. Rock music in the back, including tunes from Oasis and Ramones. Welcome and friendly service, as always on Brewdog places, t-shirts with 'Vote Punk'. Next stop, Pint Shop, is located just a few steps further up the street. (Visited with Finn early on a Sunday afternoon, 14.11.2021).“

“A central located one-roomed spoons divided into different sections, dark lit. Rather limit selection of interesting cask ales at our stay, but we had a decent and cheap breakfast, and took part in two minutes silence in connection with the Remembrance Sunday. Short way from here to places like Brewdog and Pint Shop. (Visited with Finn 14.11.2021).“

“The taproom is located in a backyard, nor far from Mill Road, and about 15 minutes from the railway station in Cambridge. 12 taps with their own beers listed on a paper menu at the tables. A few more beers on cans. Medium sized room in brick and white paint. Quite popular and a bit noisy on a Wednesday eve. Friendly and helpful service. Succulent pizzas can be ordered.“

“A rather traditional, classic British pub with two rooms with high ceiling, slightly worn-down interiors, and with the serving bar in the first room. An outlet for the Milton Brewery with six of their beers on cask added by two guest ales. Local feel, and friendly service. Situated in the outskirts of the trendy Mill-area and not more than ten minutes walk from the train station. A fairly good start as our first pub on an autumn trip to England. (Visited with Finn 10.11.2021).“

“Went here for lunch. A large two level restaurant and pub overlooking the canal. Sunday roast was nice enough, they had a small selection of your standard English beers. Not really a craft beer lover's destination but an okay stop for a pint or some food.“
