Gun (Bar)
27 COLDHARBOUR, DOCKLANDS, LONDON
“Visited with Terje 18.03.24. Three of the usual Fuller’s ales on cask at our visit. Polite and friendly service. An excellent terrace on the banks of the Thames. Mostly a gastropub, I guess, with its own restaurant area.“

“Очень хоорший Брюдог для посещение с компании, так как людей не много, и в целом спокойно, при этом отличные новые столы. Выбор больше обычного. Можно посидеть на улице, что плюс для лета.“

“A very average bar, not worth seeking out but a decent option for the area (Canary Wharf, which has little in the way of decent beer). The bar is set inside a marketplace that also has food vendors - pizza, pasta, poke bowls, coffee shop. The service was adequate. My glass wasn't super clean (all those bubbles on the side). Selection is uninspiring although I found a new beer to try (a very average saison). Prices seem a little high but that could be down to the area and the fact that I don't get out much. So, an OK option for a work lunch and beer. Not a place to make an effort to visit.“

Tian Tian Market (Grocery Store)
16-17 CANADA SQUARE
“Large two-storey Asian supermarket. Huge variety of food items, both packaged and fresh. And they also have a small but nifty selection of beers from different Asian countries, as well as sake (and some other non-rateable boozy beverages). Pretty decent prices. Nicely kid out shop. Not a must visit kind of place both worth checking out if you’re nearby.“

“It’s pretty much the best option for beer in Canary Wharf. Around 26 keg lines, mostly beer and a couple ciders. Close to half given over to BrewDog beers, the rest guests. Also a good range of beers in can and bottle, around 30 or so, a little more than half of them BrewDog. Prices are a mix, some decent value on tap, some expensive stuff. Some of the BrewDog cans are dirt cheap for takeaway. The staff is always friendly and professional. The venue itself is large but can get very busy with the after-work crowd. Overall, not really a destination but it is THE place for craft beer in this part of town.“

“Visited several times. 22nd June 2019 for the purposes of this review. Situated in a modern development about 5 mins from the tube station. Typical brewdog decor, industrial, plenty of seating and even an outdoor area. 20 beers on tap plus a selection of cans and bottles. 3 fanzines and some local guest beers. Prices ok. Service good and friendly. Its fairly quiet on a Saturday and has a nice vibe. Decent venue“

“Quite far out from the centre of London but it is worth the trip. Fantastic walk through Canary Wharf. Mostly brewdog beers on tap not that many guest, and the guest beers have been better elsewhere. Beer vending machine outside which was unique. More pricey than other brewdogs I have been to. Great service and very friendly staff.“

“A pretty decent Spoons, located comically close to London's financial supercentre, Canary Wharf. Although, I doubt you'll find too many masters of the universe here. But they are missing out, as this Spoons has a nice range of beers across cask and keg, including a mild emphasis on London breweries. Prices are fair/average. Staff is quite friendly. In terms of beer variety, this is definitely one of the better places within walking distance of The Wharf.“

“Visited on Thursday 17/01/19 around 1645. Interesting location ... in a round about in a circular building but doesn't seem circular once inside! Decor is stripped back but quite smart ... not the industrial looking style BD bars some times adopt. Decent tap list on my visit with a Wild Beer take over plus a sour fest. The place really began to fill out from 1730 as we left. 2 main rooms ... the one as you enter that contains the bar plus another round the side that had cosier looking booths around the edge and high stool and table seating in the middle. Service was prompt and friendly although we got our last round before it really filled up at half 5 but there did seem to be plenty of staff about. As Craig says there were a lot of reserved tables laying empty but they were all clearly marked with a 'From' time ... this is common in many craft beer establishments in London in this day and age so nothing to see here really ... just check the time and use them accordingly. Overall a decent edition to the Brewdog scene in London in what was a pretty barren area for good beer until the last year or so. I can see this being a real money maker for the group with the numbers I witnessed on a January Thursday early evening!“

“Visited with Colin on a busy Monday evening in February 2018. This place is another in Fullers "craft" themed bars (very similar to their other premises "The Hydrant" next to Monument), and it had the same interesting line up of beers, scored a few ticks here on my visit so not allot wrong there. It was early evening though so was busy with after work braying "suit" types which i am glad to no longer regularly encounter - so not high up on the ambience scores there for my visit, but would definitely stop by again for sure if in the area to see what they have on.“

“Fairly spacious and well laid out Spoon a stone throw from Canary Wharf centre. Selection is focused on guest cask ales, with good variety of 5-7 regular kegs, 4-5 semi-regular casks and c.10 fully rotating casks. It’s pretty much in-line with your average Spoon in terms of mostly everything (services, prices, food, beer condition), so not too much to talk about there. Overall, the best beer location in Canary Wharf by a mile and then something.“

“Visited on the afternoon of 23/01/17. The Ledger building is located in the corner of North Dock approx half way between West India Quay and Westferry DLR stations right next door to the Docklands museum. As the name suggests this building used to be the home to the Ledgers in Londons dockland heyday. It is definitely one of the most aesthetically pleasing Spoons I’ve been to ... you enter into a long corridor with rooms to either side and the bar to the left in the larger of the rooms. Open plan with largely high chair seating The Ledger Building is well turned out and is very bright and airy for a Spoons. At the business end I was both surprised and pleased to find 15 cask lines, 10 of which were dedicated to guest ales with breweries such as Dukeries, Twickenham, Nethergate, Cotleigh and Strathaven featured. There were also three local craft kegs from Trumans and Portobello allied to the usual selection of 20 or so craft bottles. Service was fine, ambiance flat but that said perhaps only a dozen or so punters during my 330pm visit. Overall a solid Spoons.“

“This place is a blessing for the Wharf. The upstairs bar offers quite a few craft bottles and keg lines. Fairly spacious and quite new means it’s often quite empty however.“

Gun (Bar)
27 COLDHARBOUR, DOCKLANDS, LONDON

This is the end, my River Thames

oh this is the end, my watery friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end

Of everything that stands, the end

No safety or surprise, the end

I’ll never look into your watery depths again (actually I probably will but not on this journey)

Anyway that is enough of The Doors. We visited here on the final leg of the Thames Tipple a journey from the source of the Thames through to pretty much the end of the river, taking in some 150-200 pubs en route and taking over ten years. Our visit was Saturday 22nd October 2016.

The Gun is a decent Fullers pub sat slap on the northern bank of the Thames looking directly across to the Millenium Dome. It lies to the east of both Billingsgate Fishmarket and Canary Wharf and a 15-20 min walk will get you to the latter and of course the Jubilee Line. There don’t appear to be that many pubs around here and so I think that this place does well, it sits at the end of what initially appears to be a cul-de-sac when approached from Manchester Rd (A1206) from the south, but its actually situated on a lane (Coldharbour?) this lane links to the road for vehicles further up.

We entered and it was clear that there was some function on as all of the tables to the LH side were laid out very poshly for diners and the large conservatory to the rear which appeared to be hosting some Charleston type fancy dress party was probably the folk who were going to eat here later. we squeezed into the bar area to the RH side and chatted with a couple of locals, there is a smaller room out the back that leads to a nice patio area that afford some superb views of the Thames the buildings opposite lit up looked great reflecting into the dark inky waters.

Beer choice was pretty good there was Windsor & Eton, Castle Rock and one or two others on top of some core range Fullers beers, I had a Camden Ocktober Fest lager on keg. I quite liked this place but not quite sure that the eating/drinking thing works that well, however there were 25 of us here so I guess we did rather ram the place. Staff seemed fine, I would pop in again if in the area. And whilst not the best place to end our epic journey, it did the trick.

“Great burgers, if just a touch more expensive than the average. Nice selection of beers, featuring breweries such as Beavertown, Partizan, Camden, Brooklyn, BrewDog and Howling Hops. Decent prices on the bottles of beer. Friendly, professional service. Fairly lively atmosphere at this Byron branch during the day, with plenty of office workers about. A worthwhile place to grab a burger and a beer.“

“Visited on 16th August 2016. Large waterside pub around 5 mins from Canary Wharf tube and just around the corner from the DLR station. Arrived around 17.15 and the place was fairly quiet with plenty of tables outside and a long single roomed bar area with lots of seating inside too. Beer range was OK with a few nationals and a Nicholsons own brand beer, the guests were a little more interesting with a Red Squirrel beer and 2 from Inveralmond which aren’t often in London. Beer quality was decent enough, prices surprisingly good for the location. Got busier as I left after a swift pint. Not a beer destination but if you find yourself in Canary Wharf with a thirst on this isn’t a bad watering hole.“

Gun (Bar)
27 COLDHARBOUR, DOCKLANDS, LONDON
“Very nice, historic pub right on the Thames. One part of it is a restaurant. We had the pub food (which was very good) and one starter from the a la carte, and that starter was astonishingly good. Beer selection is quite good; the cask beers are not the normal selection. Very good and friendly service. I wouldn’t travel to Isle of Dogs just for this pub, but if near by I would definitely make a detour for it.“

Gun (Bar)
27 COLDHARBOUR, DOCKLANDS, LONDON
“Visited september 2013 for the IPA festival. Abit out off town, but fairly easy to reach with the metro, and then a small walk. Old style pub, inside 3 or 4 small rooms, nice and cozy. Nice patio with a overview over the river, Q2 arena etc. Nice selection at thee festival, about 20 beers, half cask and half on kegs. Good quality with the better of the new London breweries present. Dont think the seection will the interesting on a normal day, with no festival going on. Had some hotdogs for lunch, wich was nice. Good service, prices abit high, but not to bad.“

“Directly behind the Cat&Canary - has some Fullers’s beer on draft plus usually a few others. Kona brews in bottles for instance. The place is materially less busy than the surrounding pubs - so that can be convenient if you want to get a quick drink after work.“

“Mainstream beers on tap, speak Perroni and Guinness, few gems in bottles. Food is below average for pub standard. Service is outright horrible, the bar is way understaffed.“

Gun (Bar)
27 COLDHARBOUR, DOCKLANDS, LONDON
“Visited during their Winter Beer Festival. About 15/20 or so casks running on top of what looks to be their normal range of about 20 bottles and 8 or so taps. Tap range is very average but they more than make up for it with their bottle range with Partizan, Kernel, Wild Beer, Weird Beard .etc. Killer stuff on cask including some cool small batch stuff like Thornbridge Beadeca’s Well (Whisky Barrel Aged), Beavertown / Wild Beer Sour Brown, Gyle 59 .etc. Had an amazing lamb and red wine pie while their cheers to the recommendation from Teorn. Was damn tasty. Casks were all very good value, rest of the pub was solid. Nice terrace area too. A great English pub with a welcoming modern feel to it“

Gun (Bar)
27 COLDHARBOUR, DOCKLANDS, LONDON
“Visited on Friday 31st January 2014 around 4pm for their beer festival. Had a good chat with the ’beer guy’ so trying to make this review appropriate for a normal days business as well as for their festivals, which he tells me will be quarterly this year so expect the next one in April/May. The Gun is a trad looking late Victorian boozer nestled in the heart of the docklands. I reached the Gun via the Jubilee Line to Canary Wharf, exit via Montgomery Square and you’ll get to the Gun from the platform in just under 10 minutes via the floatilla bridge. There are also a couple of DLR stations slightly closer but were not convenient for me. There are a number of rooms in the Gun, as you enter you come to the main bar with 4 cask lines, plus keg taps. The area to the left was laid out for diners. There were a few nooks and crannies around the other side of the bar and perhaps the best feature of the Gun lays beyond that, the waterside area that gives a panoramic view over the docklands. During the festival this room contained 8 beers on stillage, whilst around 6 more were available at the main bar. They don’t have the capacity to put all the beers on at once so a number of visits may be required if you are after specific beers. I’d already missed one or two wants that had finished from the first day and one or two more were yet to go on! The service is very prompt and friendly, really good to be fair. There was a good dozen or so beer folks in for the fest, but the regular clientele are clearly suits from Canary Wharf who annoyingly stood in front of the bar so you couldn’t see the pump clips whilst they sipped their G&T’s and white wines. Don’t get me wrong - I’m a suit, just not the sort of suit WHO STANDS IN THE FUCKING WAY OF THE BAR!!! On a normal day you can expect a Sambrooks beer, Sharps plus a guest and maybe one or two London keg micros from the likes of Kernel or Beavertown. Not worth the schlep out here, but if you’re in the area already - why not. As for the festival - there were a few rare and one off’s so I’ll be looking to hit this again. Decent venue in a desert of medicority.“
