“A small brewery outside the downtown area. The place is open and there is a patio, and some board games to entertain you. The beer selection is pretty varied and the beers good. The service was very friendly and they bought my flight after dropping one of the beers. They do not have a kitchen but they have a few snack items for purchase.“

“Visited on a Friday evening around 7 pm. About 15 minutes from Des Moines. It’s in a small strip mall area. Pretty large interior. Seemed to be geared toward a family friendly atmosphere. Board games and so on around the seating area. The beer here was good. Lots of different takes on normal styles. Mostly done well. Service was good. The food they had was snack stuff like a cheese tray and chips. The cheese tray was kind of a disappointment quantity wise, but that’s alright. Overall I would recommend it for a visit.“

“Visited for an early dinner on New Year’s Eve with my family. Located on a typical suburban corner, with ample parking. Nice outdoor patio as you enter, with a big bar immediately to the right. Restaurant seating is the rest of the building, and this is the size of any of the Granite City locations I have been to. Service was great, handled our party of 9 with no issues. Beer selection was ~ 8 house beers (I enjoyed the Black IPA) + 2 guest drafts, available as a sampler, shaker pint or 25 oz draft. They also do growler fills to go. Food was solid.

64 = ** (Just ok)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Cozy little brewery set along the winding bike trails. Nothing fancy, but their brews are choice. Definitely worth a visit.“

“The second of two breweries we visited in Des Moines on a bike trail. Located in a small shopping center with solid parking. They had 10 or so of their beers as well as some other Iowa guest taps. Beers were solid.“

“Pleasant ambiance and nice service with a good selection of beers. 10-11 house beers and another 8-9 guest taps (all from Iowa). The quality of beers is above average, this is one of the better breweries in the greater DSM area.“

“Very nice brewery in Des Moines. Inside they décor is open and nicely done although nothing unique. You can watch the brewing from the serving bar...the brew deck is right behind it. There is a nice outdoor area which is adjacent to a bike trail...so a lot of bicyclists stop here while passing thru (although I expect some plan their travels to coincide with a stop here). Barb was on the brew deck working on a batch while I was there yesterday...and there were 11-12 beers available...plus 4 guest taps. I found all of the beers to be very interesting and well made...with the following standouts...OJ American pale wheat, Basil Protocol basil cucumber saison, Western Gateway IPA, Mexican Spring agave lime wheat, Mediocre mosaic single hopped pale ale, and Surprends Moi hopped saison. These are very good beers 515 is making. I’m thinking the reviews are lower than they should be (although they all speak well of the place) because 515 is getting better. I don’t know if their brewer changed or if they are just moving up the learning curve faster of late...but I highly recommend any who previously did a review more than 3-4 months ago...revisit and see if they think a higher review is deserving. Nice people here and great service too. If 515 stays on this track I think they will gain more notoriety (I already think their beers have surpassed the more highly ranked Confluence). 515 is a must visit when in Des Moines or when just passing thru on I80 or I35.“

“A pretty simple but nice brewery. They offer small pour and flights of beers. The beers I had were pretty good. If you are in the area its worth checking out.“

“Located in a strip mall / industrial complex. The brewers put on a wide variety of styles and even chatted us up about beer. As we were seated two beers kicked. (everything is small batch) Hopititis C and Reaper in the Rye I enjoyed a lot. I really enjoyed the beer they brew and would return if ever back in Western Iowa. “

“Visited on a Thursday afternoon. Wasn’t busy, but had a nice steady stream of customers. Nine of their beers on tap and five guest taps. Tasters were $2. Bartender was friendlly and knew their beers. Spacious and clean. Well worth your time.“

“Visited midday on a Saturday. Easy to find location, with plenty of parking out front. New bigger tasting room; on the left as you enter is a bar with 8 or so seats, to the right are ~10 tables, a couch area, a projection screen TV which appears to be used to show sports and a bumper pool table. 7 house beers on draft, plus 5 guests which focused on local breweries. Beers were offered as 5 oz taster for $2, pints, 10 oz pour for a dollar less, 4 tasters for $8. I appreciate the 10 oz pour option, that is almost always the size I want when I visit a new brewery. Fun, local crowd. Friendly service. When I visited there was BBQ available, and it was pretty great.

76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)

“When the wife and I are looking to enjoy a good beer with good people we visit 515. Staff is energetic and knowledgeable about their product. Ownership is willing to try new concoctions and frequently on site to answer questions. Food trucks are frequently on site during weekends.“

“My boyfriend and I went here for Valentines dinner and as soon as we got there the server sat at our table to take our order. She let my boyfriend sit there without water for almost an hour. He had ordered steak and it came back to the table rare and when he asked to have it put back on the grill to cook for a few more minutes, our waitress was arguing with us that the steak was medium (even though there was blood coming out). By the time he got his steak back, I had already eaten and had my food boxed up, so we just got his to go. The restraunt was not busy, yet service was very slow and unprofessional. Our waitress was holding a baby for 10 minutes or so instead of checking on us (at that point we were waiting for her to come back because his steak was cooked rare). I will never go back here.“

“Been to one Granite City? Then you have been to them all. A crowded small place with tons of wait staff and a view of the fermenters. The food is pretty good, but also pricey. Ok beer with a large price tag. Passable for the very west burbs, but if you drive 5 minutes east, you can get to RB DM which is easily the best brewpub in the area right now. Overall, not worth a stop unless you really want the ticks.“

“Yep, it’s a granite city. I stick up for their stout, it’s pretty ok. They make a pretty good bowl of soup too. This place is generally overpriced and there is no need to go there for the beer when there is a Rock Bottom just a few blocks from it.“
