BierCafé West (Restaurant)
LANGE STR. 42
“Located on the edge of the “Westpark”. ( a former cemetery), this quite large - as cozy as, lets say, a waiting-room in an east-german train-station - beer-café offers a constantly rotating selection of eight taps plus a certain number of local, international and bavarian (craft-) beers in two fridges. For those, who do not like waiting-rooms, the patio facing the park could be an attractive alternative. A visit to this location can be easily combined with a stop at the “Bergmann-Kiosk”, which is only 600 meters away. One of the better places in DO.“

Bierothek Dortmund (Beer Store)
THIER-GALERIE WESTENHELLWEG 102-106
“Part of the “Bierothek” chain in the basement of a huge shopping-mall called “Thier-Galerie”, which was unfortunately erected on the premises of the former “Thier-Brauerei”; the right shop for friends of stability and reliability, the small selection of local brews and the usual “Bierothek” standards apparently never changes, the poor dusty bottles seem to stick to the shelves. Service so and so. This shop is strongly recommended for incorrigible optimists.“

“No greetings at entering, no warm welcome, waiting for 25 minutes for a waiter. Only after 4 times asking i got served. Very desinterested waiter. I'm only here for the beers. Normally i don't spent money on the locations but i'm here for beer.“

“I agree with FatPhil. Lovely part of town, lovely interior, lovely beers. Their altbier which themselves even consider as proper altbier is delicious. Their Maibock was sold out just yesterday, 2 weeks earlier than normally. I have to come back! English spoken.“

“Absolutely buzzing on Tuesday early evening. Service is fast despite that. Terraces outside are full but I don't mind that. To pay 3.40 for Radeberge alt ia bit steep, but watching 3 asian tourists trying to finish their pork shanks (huge) is priceless.“

“Contra to FatPhil who seemingly wasn't waken up before he go go, music here is classic 80 pop which seems to be pop in Germany anno 2022. It's a bar. Staff smoking in front of entrance is huge minus. On plus side English is spoken. Gulash soup with minor delicious twists was very nice.“

“Newly erected brewery and tap-room in the southern suburbs of Dortmund on the premises of the former giant steel-works " Phoenix-Hütte"; the industrially styled tap-room is a homage to the still impressive relics of the steelfactory: high ceiling, big bare tubes on the walls, nostalgic "industrial" illumination, simple furniture... Nearly all of the DBB regulars are on tap plus one - sometimes two - beers of the month (from Session IPA to Triple Bock!!!). Bottles and glassware available, too. Popular with bikers.... Recommended, because the air is much fresher than around the "Bergmann-Kiosk" downtown...;-)“

Hopfen & Salz (Restaurant)
VOLKSGARTENSTR. 61
“Think big in Lütgendortmund! The "Hopfen und Salz" restaurant in the western suburbs of Dortmund is a large building with a restaurant, adjoining saloons, tap-room and an spacious beer-garden close to a little park called Volksgarten. They claim to offer the biggest selection of tapped beers (26!) in the Ruhrgebiet; most of them the usual suspects, from the US, B, IRL and Germany. But also goodies like Brooklyn Lager and Moritz Fiege Zwickl (pretty rare!) are on tap. Additional fridges with bottles, with Fullers London Porter for example... The quality of food is slightly above average, they do offer seasonal specialities like asparagus in spring and chanterelles in summer! Highly recommended for a pleasant and relaxed summer-evening!“

Bierothek Dortmund (Beer Store)
THIER-GALERIE WESTENHELLWEG 102-106
“Rather small bottle shop on the ground floor of a large shopping mall in the city centre. Seems like craft beer has arrived the middle of society. The shop is run by the former owner of 'Biermuda' in Bochum, so it's not just another affiliate of that craft beer store chain. Passion and knowledge is what makes this place worthwhile. Anyway, the selection is mainly German craft beer with quite some locals, therefore different from the offerings at the web shop. There is some international stuff as well, for example from the US, Poland or NL. There is a fridge for if you want to drink beer on the go. I guess the prices are a little higher than elsewhere but that comes with such a prominent address. Nice addition to the growing Dortmund craft beer landscape, still I bemoan the loss of 'Biermuda' even though the 'Bierothek' is closer to my home.“

“A large restaurant serving really good well cooked food. There is a large patio area, inside there is a bar area for more informal drinking and easting plus cosy eating areas. The beer list is extensive ranging from world wide National "blands" to some interesting crafty treats. Why not visit it and make your own mind up?“

BierCafé West (Restaurant)
LANGE STR. 42
“Located on the edge of a park just outside the inner city ring road. This could be the best craft beer bar in Dortmund? Ranch style gate's as you enter the patio, were the seating is made from recycled pallets. Its great to sit out in the shade provided by the trees. Inside there are lots of round tables and an eclectic mix of seating from old wooden chairs to art-deco ones. There are 12 taps serving an ever changing list of beers. Also a well chosen German craft bottled beer list. If you are an "Untappd" user this is a "verified" venue and they have their own "badge" plus it makes it easy to see what beers are on. The owner is super nice. Everyone is super friendly. The Menu is comparatively inexpensive but very, very tasty food, no frozen "junk". Absolutely recommended.“

“Wow, not an ordinary kiosk! It's a plump little stand where you can get any Bergmann beer in the bottle, or try some from a rotating tap list. The beer is fresh and good, and the crowd always has a good vibe. A must visit for a true Dortmund experience. I recommend the speziale.... Particularly if you like darker beers“

Rudat (Beer Store)
BORUSSIASTR. 26
“This place has probably the biggest range of beers in the eastern Ruhr Area. Basically you get German beer from high up north to deep south Plus a wide selection of crafts, Belgian, Dutch and American. The junior boss, Christian, knows what beer and beer business is all about. But be aware. That shop is on the same street as IKEA so the traffic on the Autobahn is sometimes a bit funny.“

BORUSSIASTR. 26
“Stopped by in February on the way out of Dortmund. A large drinks store with a selection of craft beer far above average for German terms. Anywhere from 100-200 I’d say. Mostly German brews. There’s a smaller selection of Belgian and other European brews—most of which you will have seen though if you’ve spent any time rating beer. Not really a place for rare finds but the sheer depth of selection will leave most people coming away with a decent haul. Staff was friendly and helpful.“

“This is the most interesting brewerytap i ever seen. The best use of an busstop in the sympathetic city of Dortmund. The tapbeers come in plastic cups so that something different for me. Also cold bottles for sale to drink. Even the beers are also bringing home, with an crate if you want more. All the beers are from Bergmann and also the Adambier is for sale at 3 euro in an plastic cup.“

“Kiosk, as the name indicates, presumably constructed in 1950’s, now serving as one of the two official brewery taps of the DBB Bergmann Brauerei. Biergarten furnishings in front of the building under an open roof, suitable to enjoy the quite well crafted DBB brews and the highly concentrated particulates from the busy ring road called Hoher Wall.“

“Medium-sized brewery taproom in a forgotten part of the town breathing industrial history. Therefore industrial style, minimalistic, modern. You can sit down actually, lots of high tables with stools are inside, the patio has typcial beer banks in the summer. Twelve taps available, not all of them are in use at the same time, maybe nine or ten different beers were available from tap during my visit. Apart from the standard range, they have a new beer for every month and sometimes even another special offer. Beers can be ordered in 0.3 l, but two different sample trays with beers from the standard range can be ordered as well (beers cannot be chosen individually though). Self-service, food can be ordered from a food truck regularly. Staff is friendly, not always knowledgeable though. Nice place, easier to reach than the kiosk in the city centre if you go by car.“

“Decent selection of beers including traditional German, modern German, macro lagers from around the world together with quality including de Molen, Nogne, Alesmith, Cascade. Best represented UK brewers appeared to be Fullers (and Friends) and Greene King! Your own bags have to be placed in a locker prior to entry. The section which I would describe as "beers of interest" are arranged by style, as opposed to "by country" - the latter being what I am used to in UK. Nonetheless, well worth a visit, and only 5 minutes walk from Dortmund-Oespel station (train line S2 from Dortmund HptBhf. Visited 23.3.18“

“Huge place in several rooms and more floors. Went through the top floor, ate and drank in the cellar room called Geheimratszimmer. 3 course dinner with appropriate beers on draught. Only 3 beers on tap, did not ask for bottled beers. Tried them all, OK but nothing new here. Food excellent and in plenty. Staff quick and friendly. Do not know the prices as our party had prepaid.“

“Spacious restaurant located at a large square close to Wenkers with a big patio in front of it. Looks quite cozy from the inside, lots of dark wood, rather traditional furniture. Food seems to be nice with lots of hearty and regional dishes, but the selection is really poor and disqualifies this place from being a valid ratebeer destination (like many others in Dortmund as well). Just the obvious macro stuff from Dr. Oetker, nothing else. Prices are not cheap for Dortmund either as this seems to be something like a tourist destination. It was already packed just an hour after opening and it wasn’t easy to get a table. Service was unexpectedly friendly and quick though, nothing to complain about. Nice restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere but useless as a beer destination (hence the low score).“

Zum Alten Markt (Restaurant)
MARKT 3
“Medium-sized bar/restaurant located on the main square in the city centre with a huge patio. Looks quite inviting, lots of old wooden interior giving it an inviting and romantic touch. The beer selection is absolutely boring, no craft beer at all, just macro Pils/Weizen/Alt/Radler from the Oetker group. Staff was quite friendly and attentive, but some looked rather grumpy and demotivated. Prices are a bit high as well, probably due to the exposed location. Might be interesting for those that are looking for hearty, meaty or even Westphalian food. For the beer lover, this is a place to avoid. Be aware that they have large screens and that it gets very crowded during football matches, especially if Dortmund is playing.“

Craft Bier Bude (Grocery Store)
BAYRISCHE STR. 155
“Medium-sized supermarket which can be reached by the same subway as the brewery museum. At the moment, still one of the few supermarkets that have a decent beer selection. A bit over 100 bottles I’d have guessed, they claim to have about 200. Mainly the usual suspects, some well-known German craft beers, some stuff from overseas, Belgian standards and Eastern European lagers. Of the more local ones, I managed to find Mücke and Ruhrpottbrew among others. Prices are quite good as it’s a supermarket. Sometimes, they offer tastings. Overall not worth a detour, but at least a glimmer of hope in what is still a town with a big history in beer but with an embarassing lack of decent offerings beer-wise nowadays (apart from a few exceptions).“

“Small burger bar just a five-minute-walk away from the central station. Not very cozy in my opinion, very bright and modern, little atmosphere to be honest. Burger menu looks promising but I didn’t taste anything. Beer selection is not worth mentioning, about the same as in every other bar or pub in Dortmund. Decent prices, friendly staff, just not worth an entry on RB.“

“Rather large Australian bar and restaurant with a focus on burgers, cocktails and Australian food (crocodile, emu, ...). Pretty relaxed atmosphere, looks like an Australian beach bar inside and has a few chairs and tables outside on a busy street. The beer selection is crappy though, this place doesn’t serve any craft beer and should not be on RB. Would only come back here for the food as it sounded very interesting but I couldn’t manage to try anything. Prices were reasonable and the staff was friendly.“

“Not really a bar but a Kiosk by Bergmann Brauerei, located on a main street close to Brauhaus Hövels and not far away from central station. Two standing tables and one table with two banks, that’s it. Orders have to be made at a counter where you sometimes have to ring a bell if the window is shut (at least in the winter). A few beers are on tap, the rest only in bottles with no guest brews provided. Prices are okay, especially considering that you can get their pricy Adam and 1972 here for 3 € from tap.
