86 /100 UNTERGREUTH 8 Nice brewery with large beergarten. Good atmosphere. Great prices, great beer. |
78 /100 Schmausenkeller (Restaurant) AM BAHNHOF 13 Visited with my parents July 2019 ( and previously). Great keller placed few kilometres outside Bamberg. Parking nearby. Lots of seatings. Relaxing atmosphere, Realy a place to chill out.. Beers served in good condition, friendly service. They do traditionel franconian food.. self-service.. go there - relax - and enjoy.. |
72 /100 Schmausenkeller (Restaurant) AM BAHNHOF 13 Quite a beautiful Keller with a nice view and not too many trees. Classic Kellerbier served from gravity for usually cheap prices. Quite an extensive list of food inside, but we didn't go for any. The beer is good and so is the view, hence definitely a recommendation in the area south of Bamberg and west of the A73. |
68 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 This must be one of the cheesiest places ever. It seems like time somehow stood still in this house. The beers are not brewed here anymore, but solid. Food seems super cheap and looks typically Bavarian/Franconian. With loads of extra onions. Fun place, but probably only once. |
60 /100 UNTERGREUTH 8 Visited on a warm summer evening. Just one local tap was available. Enjoyed it for a couple of rounds. |
70 /100 UNTERGREUTH 8 A charming village brewery that sits next to the charming village dairy farm. Looks and feels like an Oberpfalz Zoiglstube, with similarly limited weekend hours. The Hell is the only beer available, from CO2, seemingly filtered. Unfortunately I found strong diacetyl both times I visited (in the same week). |
80 /100 Schmausenkeller (Restaurant) AM BAHNHOF 13 Though Brauerei Müller Reundorf is rarely open outside of winter, they still brew and ferment there before driving the beer a short distance to Schmausenkeller, where it lagers underground in the old cellar. The hours here are limited outside of summer, and your best bet is to visit during lunch or dinner on the weekend, though they claim to be open for both on weekdays, I’ve driven up a few times to find them closed. The Ruendorf Kellerbier is poured from gravity barrel installed inside a small, homemade refrigerator which allows the spigot to extend through the door, and the barrels are large (50 L I think), and this allows them to leave it overnight and pour the next day. The Kellerbier is quite good, very clean and hoppy, made with Pilsner malt and Spalt hops. It’s good enough to come back and drink again, and it helps that the location is convenient, about halfway between Hallerndorf (Ganstaller, Roppelt, Witzgall, et al.) and Stegaurach (Müller Debring). |
58 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 Yet another fine Frankonian brewery. All is good))) |
66 /100 Schmausenkeller (Restaurant) AM BAHNHOF 13 Summer location for Mullerbrau located down in the village. Outstanding location with great views and just one, but wonderful brew. |
60 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 The beer is now all made at Rothenbach Aufsesser so it doesn’t really qualify as a brewery, but the charm and the service were pleasant and the quality of the beer decent. The Hell and the Bockbier each had their problems, nothing horribly wrong with them, both were serviceable. |
78 /100 Schmausenkeller (Restaurant) AM BAHNHOF 13 The schmausenkeller is a few km from the village of reundorf where the brewery is situated .. There are plenty of spaces for parking on the road and close to the Keller .. It’s an actractive new timbered Gastätte which is open whatever the weather .. The seats outside are only ( obviously ) available on good weather .. The place is very nice with a good view on the sorrounding countryside .. The beer of Herr muller it was good but not so easy to drink as others in Franconia but still ok anyway .. |
74 /100 Schmausenkeller (Restaurant) AM BAHNHOF 13 I had some great bottles to go. When I look back at the pictures from their Beer Garden I am quite impressed that I didn’t sat down for a beer. Lovely place lots of trees and a good view- the bottled Kellerbier was delicous BTW. Fresh and without butter. |
64 /100 UNTERGREUTH 8 Great place! What a country brewery should be--all about serving the community. A good amount of business is done with off-sales kegs, but the patio was bustling when we were there too. Very special to be at a place only open on the weekends and all about simple, straightforward fun. The one beer was a very nice kellerbier. Self-serve. The pizza was surprisingly good! |
54 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 About as old school as it gets, this place has a 19th century vibe. The beers are a bit too rustic (buttery) for my taste, but I liked the spot. Nothing terribly attractive about it, but it’s so old it makes other old places look new. And I kind of like that. |
72 /100 Schmausenkeller (Restaurant) AM BAHNHOF 13 Rating for the keller. Up on a hill overlooking the countryside. Out of the way but huge and nestled in the woods, makes it look really special. Multiple levels to the sprawling keller because of its being perched on a hill. Self-serve. Crowded. Great place. Very good kellerbier. |
62 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 Feels like going to someone’s house, has just two wooden picnic tables outside in a little yard between to small buildings. Did not see the inside. Feels like a small farmhouse. Nice country charm with friendly service. the beers were not to form when we were there (diacetyl). |
54 /100 LANGESTRASSE 2 Old fashioned village pub which opens only in winter. During the summer the Müller beers are availble at the brewery’s own beautiful Bierkeller on the edge of the village. |
38 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 This place has a very plain bierstube, when you find it at last - it wasn’t easy. The tables are plastic covered and with a lot of wood in the room, but not very cozy, seems a bit run-down. Only very few customers when we visited in the middle of the afternoon, but they served food, the service though was very uninspired. 2 beers on draft and 3 in bottles. |
60 /100 UNTERGREUTH 8 A typical unspoilt village tavern, only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday ! The owners are real farmers, so they run their brew-pub semi-commercially.
Good, "rural", sometimes a bit noisy atmosphere. Worth a detour...! |
70 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 This brewery has belonged to the same family since 1366!! In-credible. The decor is of a standard Franconian countryside brewery, lots of wooden tables and grandmotherly comfort. The beers were sadly off when we visited, even the Lager which was vom Fäss. The bottled Dunkel was infected, but the Rauchzart was rich and tasty, although bothered by a parcel of diacetyl. I’d like to come back if these issues are cleared up. The brewery is not located on the street where the bus will drop you off, but rather a side street right behind it. |
72 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 The most "rural" of rural franconian village pubs. There’s always a little barnyard smell in the dim taproom, which is crowned by a huge old oven with a big "pipe" stumbling to the ceiling; anyway, the beers are good, the staff is friendly and the trouts are the freshest I#ve ever tasted..... |
72 /100 DORFSTRASSE 5 One of my favorite places in Franconia. The very friendly brewer had some time left and gave us a private tour. Good beers, especially the Rauchzart. It was early morning, so I didn’t taste the food. |
