“Has that “Black Country Ales” feel to the place, not that I’m complaining. Nice bouncy carpet! Classic old English boozer look. 17 hand pulls of which 5 were ciders and a small keg selection. Helpful, friendly service. WiFi was super slow. Close to the Fixed Wheel taproom and about 15 minutes walk to Rowley Regis station. A great little boozer as are all the BCA pubs.“

“A small, busy, community micro pub with a small terrace out front. Nice enough but mainly macro beers and nothing much for me. Didn’t stay long.“

“This pub features in the 2019 Good Beer Guide and a few years ago was saved by Black Country Ales.11 ales and 6 real ciders plus a large selection of gins make it popular. We had to take the Milestone Azacca Gold back as it was at the end of the barrel, but exchanged no problem. The Yorkshire Heart Platinum EPA and Battledown Original were fine. “

“The recent take over and refurbishment by Black Country Ales has dragged the pub into the 21st Century without losinf too much of the character though the old regulars would probably disagree. BCA usual beers plus around 15 guests. No Bathams nowadays unfortunately.“

“A Wetherspoons but one of the better ones in the area. The guest beers are usually local. The usual cheap and cheerful food menu. A few yards from the bus station.“

“Visited on 19th November 2016. Set back from the main road down a gravel drive, this is an impressive building known as the Grange. It’s a members club but you can sign in as a guest for a £1 or free if you produce a CAMRA card. As our leader had prearranged a visit we all steamed in. Lovely old venue, bowling green out back, large bar area and a nice comfy lounge. A decent range of beer on cask with a good mix from across the UK. Prices and quality were decent. Liked this place, recommended.“

“I’d never been in here before as when I was a local I had not been converted to real ale. I’d been in some great pubs on a Black Country tour but this was the best in my opinion. Friendly staff, friendly locals and a fantastic range of ale. If I lived close by I’d probably never leave.“

“Solid boozer that had a great range of casks in top condition. Underrated & a better bet than the Waggon & Horses for quality beer.“

“Solid boozer that had a great range of casks in very average condition, usually very flat & watery in taste! Their Bathams is consistently the best pint.“

“Really traditional unchanged boozer on the outskirts of birmingham. Pretty good selection which was quite unexpected, both british and european beers on tap. Very friendly service and even friendlier locals.“

An ordinary looking local pub with an extraordinary beer list. The Waggon and Horses looks unpromising from the outside but a glance at the beer board in the back room (with a supplementary one at the end of the bar), changes this perception immediately as it’s a well chosen list with at least 14 draught ales and three ciders on tap. We visited on the Ratebeer Black Country Bash and couldn’t have been made more welcome by the friendly landlord, who had laid on a stupendous buffet for us. We did our best to make a dent in it but I’d imagine he didn’t need to think about what to have for lunch or dinner for at least a week afterwards. (Visited 6 July 2013). “

“Stopped by during the RateBeer Black Country Bash. Solid spot overall. Only drank a few beers here as we had booked in the buffet and there absolute mounds of food to be eaten; so, I did my part, as you do. Great ambiance here. The clientele seemed pretty darn local. Well worth a visit if you’re passing by.“

“Well this place hasn’t changed for decades clearly. That is a good thing. Marvellously characterful old pub. Good beers, good service. The spread they laid on for us was fab. The landlord is character as well. Fast friendly service. Great place!“

“Visited on the RB Black Country Bash - 6th July 2013. My last visit here was in early 2002 and I can honestly say the place hasn’t changed a bit - just a few thousand beer barells in the meantime! Medium sized Victorian boozer with a sizeable bar with 16 sticks of cask ales. Cotleigh, Oakahm, Burton Bridge and Plain amongst others on our visit. We had a buffet booked for our trip and at £6 a head was cracking vfm, we must only have got through around half of it! A real locals pub and Bob the landlord, of some 25 years, popped by to chat to us. Definately a place to hit on a black country crawl.“

“Visited during the Ratebeer Black Country Bash. The Waggon & Horses is a real traditional, charming spot. It feels like it hasn’t changed in 70 years. Sort of a cramped, narrow pub filled with local beer enthusiasts. There was a large number of cask beers available. By this point in the crawl the wind had been taken out of my sails a bit, so I didn’t try too many beers. But what I did try was of good quality. The landlord, Bob, was a real card. Overall, a world class venue for what it is. Great.“

“There’s two rows of ale pumps to choose from in this traditional looking Wetherspoon in town centre of Halesowen. Although open plan it has a low ceiling giving it a more intimate feel than some of the grander buildings this chain uses. Food and the usual drink selection apply. Fairly busy on a mid-summer Tuesday night and about a 10 minute walk south-west from the Travelodge where I was staying.“

“This pub is an institution just like the Landlord himself.Bob is well known in the real ale world and has here a pub where you are only a stranger once.Staff and regulars alike go together to create not only a real ale mecca but also a welcoming, friendly good humoured establishment.Beer choice is as already mentioned with an even better selection of ticks appearing over the last couple of years adding to a fine array of regular favourites. .Sunday dinnertimes with the cheese and bread and Bobs sometimes "killer" dip is not to be missed especially mixed in with some great banter.Bills food is cracking and great value and of exceptional quality and he is often experimenting and conjuring up new dishes small and large to try. With the great mix of beers, food, staff and customers this place has it is no wonder so many of us travel some distance to make this our "favourite local".“

“I live a good couple of miles from the Waggon but consider it to be my local. The beer selection is superb and recent samplings have included breweries like Pictish, Kinver, Oakham, Salopian, Angel Ales to name a few. There’s a fair few regular beers like Bathams and Oakham Inferno but at least 10 or 12 guests. The food is also fantastic and great value. Burgers, Faggots, Ribs, Steaks & Chilli are quite often the special of the day and hot sandwiches are usually available. Watch out for the food menu though as they generally only serve past 6pm on a Monday and Wednesday and no hot food sundays...well worth it though!“

“An excellent community pub, located just off the Halesowen to Stourbridge Road, and walking distance away from the Waggon and Horses. About 7 guest real ales on handpull and traditional decor, with comfy seating, pool table, pub grub etc. Friendly and unassuming. Very nice.“

“Absolutely blisteringly good pub and, as Gazza has said, this is a must visit when you are within a 50-mile radius. Old-fashioned local atmos, with a long bar crammed with rotating UK ales and Belgian beers on keg. Marvel at the shelves full of unopened classic world beers from across the ages! Enjoy the free cheese, bread, salsa and tortilla chips (as I did). Unbelievably good.“

“An institution, and long may it remain so. The Waggon is not a scoopers pub, it’s a locals pub that just happens to serve 15 or so beers of which a fair number are guests and often rare/new; it’s certainly one of the "must visit" pubs for anyone who loves old fashioned drinking shops. The bar fills most of the front room with a sloping floor to add to the Victorian atmosphere which is aided by outside toilets! There may not be quite as many scooping beers as there used to be, but several local pubs and clubs now make up for the shortfall and it’s still a must if you’re in the area; go for the atmosphere and surroundings as much as for the scoops!“
