“Visited on a Sunday evening. Located not too far from the PATH station in Hoboken, half a block off of the main street. All of Hoboken seemed to be out, and this pub was jammed and very loud. Everybody was drinking and having a good time, and quite friendly. Beer selection is 50 beers with a wide variety of NJ and NYC locals. Bartender was great, had solid recommendations and spent time chatting despite the craziness around us. I wanted a stop on the way to Newark Airport, and this fit the bill perfectly. (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“A couple of notes first:
1. Place has been around forever as mostly a standard kind of football and bud light and shot of whiskey type of spot.
2. Have recently started to carry a pretty good craft selection with NJ locals (Kane, Brix City, Bolero Snort, etc) all making appearances on recent visits for me.
3. CASH ONLY
Pretty decent craft spot these days. Keep their list well-updated on untappd. Other than Anthony, the bartenders (and crowd too) are mostly not that into the craft beer. They do have some events with local breweries on occasion as well. If you are looking for a good beer on Washington St in Hoboken, this is definitely one of the better options.“

“Pretty decent bottle shop in Hoboken right next to Trader Joe's. Nice, clean store. Prices are on the high side, but not terrible. Not much in the way of singles unfortunately, but they have what appears to be a (just slightly better) selection than the Sparrows have. Good selection of NJ and NY beers. Not a bad spot at all. “

“28 taps + 6 (SIX!) cask pumps. 2 real ales from Carton available which were good and best (first good) real ales I have had in USA. Great informative table on the wall about beers. Lots of sport screen. Versatile tap list. Propably the best place for beer in Hoboken. Quite near Hoboken station so easy to visit from Manhattan too. Flights available. Kane & Carton beers on tap and some other NJ breweries also.“

“Visited for Oktoberfest. Nice selection of German and other oktoberfest beers, huge place indoors and garden at the back, having to pick some of the food from the inside, while others were delivered by the waitress was a bit confusing. They also have a rotating beer menu, some very local choices included. The food and service was also good. Worth the visit.“

“Glad to see a new beer centric place finally come to Hoboken. They are definitely trying to focus on NJ craft here, which is nice. Stuff from Carton, Kane, Magnify, Alementary, etc. has been flowing through when I have either been or checked the menu. Vibe is sports bar. Lots of TVs. A nice open window area by the street that should be nice in warmer weather. Food is pretty standard bar food. For whatever it is worth, I get the impression that instead of really catering to the beer loving crowd, they are going to try and have 60 taps and at the same time try to keep that Miller Lite chugging bar crowd around as much as possible as well.“

“Nice clean place and helpful staff. Their beer manager’s business card is hanging at the front desk waiting for anyone who wants to contact him or something. Their site is constantly updated and allow for delivery. I was able to pick up some Founder’s KBS with little headache. A few local selections including Cherry Hill. Founders, Flying Dog, etc. A decent selection of singles but I think it’s only a matter of time before this place has a really great selection.“

“They get some rare stuff from time to time. Found a bottle of Sierra Nevada BA Bigfoot Barleywine. Prices are reasonable but mostly run of the mill. Typical craft beers of Founders, Flying Dog, etc. Not really helpful staff and the stuff is sometimes 1-2 months old for IPA’s. That being said, they have bin ends where they get rid of stuff for 10-15% discounts which make it worth checking for regular beers.“

“So the downtown La Isla has been one of the consistently best mid-priced restaurants in Hoboken for quite some time. The second location seems to have a slightly different menu, leaning more towards the eat in than the take-out. The food is still great. More importantly for this site, they have also switched over from BYOB to serving booze. As for the beer, the guy who runs the beer program at the Sparrows is running it here, and so far the list has been really solid. 12 taps of craft only. Stuff from Carton, Left Hand, Stone, Neshaminy Creek, 21st Amendment, etc on my first visit. $6 for all the drafts I believe, which is pretty cheap in Hoboken. I expect the list to lean toward the hoppy stuff, judging by his general tastes. Sculpin on draft is never something I’ll complain about. Hops, in general, pairs great for me with the spice of the Cuban food, so I’m happy if that’s the way he ends up going with this list. I think they’ve only been open a couple weeks, but I’m pretty impressed thus far.“

“9/13/14: This place has improved somewhat since me last review. They definitely try to get rarer stuff in, but they don’t sell enough quantity compared to the Buy Rites and Sparrows to get the kind of stuff those places get. Things will sit for a little on the shelf here. You have to check dates. Sometimes really good finds can be found here.

12/11/10: An alright selection in a decent little store. For Hoboken, this place is pretty good. The staff was friendly enough. They didn’t have a huge selection, but I found a few somewhat rarities.

“(backlog recollected in abstinentia) Visited 09/2012. Urban brick Biergarten style within walking distance of the shore. Made the confident impression of being very much an after-work gathering place than being specifically geared toward quickly rotating tap aficionados, which is more than OK. Very nice line-up of Central European DE/AT/CZ beers (Stiegl on tap) and local fare mainly poured in shakers/mugs. Cleared out pretty quickly after we arrived by 11pm on a THU night, but I imagine this venue can make for many a happy hour when packed.“

“Paper Log 2012 Ambiance - nice bar to hang out in before a show, great classic jukebox. Service - servers and bartenders are friendly. Selection - beers are between macros and larger craft brewers. Food - very big and filling portions, very good. Value - So-so on prices, not expensive.“

“Small bar in the heart of downtown Hoboken. Bartenders are usually attentive and knowledgeable but can be lacking during busy hours. They don’t serve food but you can bring whatever you’d like into the bar and can have places deliver there. They have about 20 rotating taps and can have some very interesting things that other bars in the area won’t have. Worth a stop if you are in the area for a beer or two.“

“Stopped in while in town for New Years. Smallish but solid selection of brew including lots of Port and Lost Abbey (Older Viscosity...yum). Some Utopias behind the counter for $210. Grabbed some JW Lees aged in some barrels I haven’t had before. Worth a stop if you are downtown but nothing to go out of your way for.“

“New Years 2013/14 dinner here. Nice setup with the long bar. We sat upstairs where it had an excellent ambiance. Food was excellent--got seared scallops and risotto--and a decent enough selection of beer. Had my first Jersey brew from River Horse along with some Blithering Idiot. Good service, reasonable pricing on the food (bro in law took the bill so no idea what the beers cost). Overall a nice place to stop in for dinner with a plenty-good-enough selection of beer.“

“Visited on a Thursday night. Extremely cool ambiance. It really had the feel of an old-time Czech beer garden. Long trestle tables filled the room. I sat at the porcelain tile fronted bar. The service a the bar was friendly and attentive. Didn’t quiz him on his beer knowledge but I’d assume he was completely conversant with the offerings. The tap selection was heavily German, though Pilsner Urquell was prominently featured. After a half liter of that I took advantage of the Monday-Thursday happy hour special, $10 gets you two brats, sauerkraut, great fries, and a half liter of the house pilsner. Great deal and a nice beer. This is a must stop for beer lovers in the Hoboken area.“

“Just opened last week, this is their second location (the first is in West New York). It is a decent sized, clean, and fairly well laid out store. So far they have an OK beer selection (they are much more stocked on wine and liquor), but it is a pretty good sized store, and they have some decent craft offering available. Prices and selection are both pretty comparable with other area stores like Sparrow. They had a Captain Lawrence tasting the opening weekend (just samples of a few of their standards, but at least they are trying). I hope they bring even more beer in, because the location is great.“

“just a makeshift type operation set up in a town that has come UP a long, long way since i was a kid. good brew deals when closing for the season. it’s nice around here now except for the crowds and that makes for a good spot. “Cork City Pub is the only place in Hoboken for those of us in search of great craft beer and a great crowd to go along with it. 26 taps of constantly rotating brews and all styles are represented when seasonally appropriate. Solid selection of bottles - both 12 oz. and bombers - as well. Plenty of TVs with all sports packages. No kitchen, but you can bring your own or order in right from the bar. Best dartboard in Hoboken as well. My favorite pub in all the land. Just an all around great place to enjoy great beer and great people.“

“Figured this could use a new, updated rating. As indicated in Ben’s first rating, the beer selection at Sparrow has improved quite a bit since early 2012. Regular offerings from Port/Lost Abbey, Maine Beer Co., some Anchorage stuff too. They also have some stuff you may not expect to find around town, like things from Terrapin, Voodoo, and The Lavery. Prices are generally pretty good around here. Nothing wrong with some Cuvee Rene 750s for $10. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a Hoboken beer destination just yet, but it’s really close to where I live and I hit it up every so often.“

“Went to this place with Ben on November 10th, 2012. Nice sized place, looks like a biergarten inside. Decent german selection with a few other bottles. Service was good to me as they did a good job of only checking when beers were low. Only issue on a Saturday night was the music was really loud and not really "biergarten" style.“

“Now that they FINALLY decided to start caring some decent beer offerings, and claim (I’ll be skeptical until I see it) that their beers/beer singles selection is going to grow quite a bit more over the coming months, I decided it was time to add this location of Sparrow to the database. It isn’t a great beer store yet, but the improvement over the last 6 months is certainly noticeable. Worth a stop if you are in the area and in search of decent beer, but definitely not a destination.“

“This place just open on July 4th, and is a great new addition in Hoboken. Pier 13 may be semi-temporary in that they plan to only have it exist in the summers, but it is a great place to grab a beer when the weather is nice. As far as beer, they pretty much only have craft beer (draft, cans, and bottles/bombers are available). Their cheap beer is cans of PBR, which I am always in favor of as well. It’s only a pier, so the place isn’t huge, and gets a little crowded on weekend days (at least so far), but they have a pretty good set-up with an area of picnic tables and a grassy area with some beach chairs as well. The negatives would be the crowds (lines for beer and bathrooms are common) and the prices aren’t great ($8 drafts, cans and bottles range), but this place is certainly well worth a visit.

I forgot to mention the food in my initial review: They don’t actually have any food, so I can’t give them a score there, but they do have an area for local food trucks (Taco Truck, Luke’s Lobster, Philly’s Cheese Steaks, etc) to park that usually has 1 or more parked out there. (Their Facebook page sometimes shows the day’s food truck schedule).“

“Commonly referred to as the "Hoboken Beer Garden," this is a spacious beer hall with two indoor seating areas and one outdoor area. Good selection of German beers, as well as a few taps pouring American beers. The place was packed on a Saturday night and a band was playing, but we still had relatively little trouble getting beers and finding a seat. The clientele on weekends is very "Jersey" but, hey, it’s in Hoboken, what do you expect. Great place that I am sure to revisit.“

“This place probably gets the most interesting offerings in Hoboken. They don’t have a huge number of taps, but they rotate them and bring on interesting stuff. In other locales this wouldn’t really be a special bar or anything, but in Hoboken, this one is probably close to the top as far as less easily located beers go.
It is a small bar. It has some dart board, a few tables, and some bar seats. The service is pretty decent. The couple of times I’ve been there they’ve had a bartender with decent-to-good beer knowledge. “
