“Lovely sophisticated bar with a view onto their crafty facility. At least 8 of their crafty range on tap, some I've not seen elsewhere, plus the full range of bottles. Staff are fine, if a little rusty in English. Seems like food is implemented in terms of a food truck outside, which provided a very hearty meal. Handy for the station, but opening hours are restrictive, so plan carefully.“

“Great little shop, with a cozy seating area for drinking in, carrying everything from craft to kraft, so a very good one-stop for everything apart from the trashest of the supermarket stuff. Excellent staff - happy to talk about the beers and the scene - even got generous free samples of a couple of the beers on tap. A little bit out of the way, but a must-visit place if you can get this side of town.“

“Quick trip here as entz post-judging at the homebrew competion. Civilised little bar up on a balcony area. Four of their beers on tap, and a small fridge for bottles. Staff - well, they're kinda mates, I've known them for years from the Lithuanian homebrewing scene. I presume this is only open to the public as part of a brewery trip.“

“A small bottle shop next to Akropolis Shopping Center. There are some taps and a small area to sit down and taste some beers from the taps. The interior is quite café-like. Decent selection of Lithuanian craft beers, some in cold.“

“Small bar with a decent sized beer garden just off Laisves aleja. Draft selection probably the best in Kaunas and a very good bottled range too with plenty of local representation. Service was a bit slow but it was a busy Friday night to be fair.“

“Small bar near the town hall square with tall tables and stools. Barman was very friendly and happy to offer tasters. About 6 of the 12 taps in use when we visited. Not really much of a craft place, mainly the smaller Lithuanian macros. Beer itself was only in average condition too.“

“Part of the Nisha chain, similar to others in Kaunas and Vilnius. 10 taps, more than half from Lithuania/Baltics. Very good selection of international bottles/cans, should be a few ticks here for anybody. We were the only people in so small space not a problem, there are a few bar stools upstairs, apparently there is a downstairs too - watch your step or you may fall down the spiral staircase.“

“The sort of faux-English pub found in cities all over the world, except England that is, and really not my sort of thing. Reasonable range of beer with some interesting guests on draft. Rarely for Lithuania, this place has a beer menu. Maybe worth a look if passing, but don't go out of your way.“

“The best place I visited in Kaunas. Situated in an ancient wooden building near the spectacular Art Deco church on the hill. Better than average Lithuanian service and a very good range of beers. Recommended.“

“Visited couple years ago. Sort of nano-brewery. Located in the cellar of ordinary cottage. Back then they were serving 2 brews, quite good. And yes - tricky to find.“

“Located on the main pedestrian street, where nearly all culinary life in town seems to happen, this restaurant-and-brewery is tuckd away in the basement of a 19th century tenement building. Like most venues of this type, it is dimly lit, furnished with wooden tables and chairs and decorated with beer gadgets. Parts of the brewing equipment in use are set on display, too. The selection includes two beers of drinkable quality sold at the high end of a reasonable price. He staff are polite but sound rather stiff. Well, check. Then disappear in the bar next door if you want good beer.“

“Next to last stop of a Kaunas daytrip, and I was feeling pretty exhausted by the time I visited. Longish bar with a few stools plus some bar tables, second small room with restaurant tables and a few tables out back. Good sized taplist and large bottle selection, but nothing I hadn't had before, at this point of the trip. Barman knew his beers and was training a new staff person (I'm a big fan of training). Other clientele kept quietly to themselves. Food is bar snax, sandwiches etc. An OK stop, a bit out of the way compared to the other Kaunas places.“

“Large production brewery, I smelled the wort even before seeing the brewery itself. Handful of old-timey kvass tankers parked on the back lot. They do have a pub, advertised as open Monday through Friday from 11 to 23, but it was closed at 17:00. Fortunately around the corner they have a small shop where you can drink and buy their beers. Right across from the train station, so it makes an easy stop. But I wonder if the pub is only for workers, or pre-arranged tours? I forgot to ask...“

“There are several of these scattered around old Kaunas, not exactly carbon copies but close. Seemed like commercially developed Irish pubs. Large beer list but nothing overly exciting. Didn't try the food but it looked decent as it passed by to other tables. Don't overlook the bottle list, a few interesting things lurking there. Worth a quick stop.“

“On the main pedestrian street. Downstairs, vaulted old world cellar. Small brewhouse off to the side, didn't look close enough to tell whether it was really used or just for show. Two beers on offer, I ordered only one but the barman gave me the other to try, unprompted. Snax were tasty enough, but they have a full restaurant menu too. Worth a look if in town.“

“First stop on a Kaunas daytrip, for lunch. Inside was a bit dank and hot so I sat at one of the sidewalk tables. Then a torrential downpour hit and I moved inside to one of the barstools that look uncomfortable but are actually pretty comfy. Barman Joks poured me a new Genys beer that was to be released that evening, and guided me through some interesting bottles in the fridge. Flights of the draft beers are available as well. Food was very tasty, prices were good. Solid first stop.“

“Together with Kultura, Vingiu Dubingiu Alude for me stands as the favourite place to go for a beer - just with stronger focus on beer selection. Guys there know theirs stuff, promote theirs system of values - (local) tradition done in a modern way - and in nowadays Kaunas acts as main force pushing beer culture, and image of whole city as self-independent and modern one. Ambience is clean, and crisp, you can almost describe it as hip, if not by knowing what this fine establishment stands for - my favourite place is to sit by the windows and watch public transport pass by. Snacks are awesome. During warm season Vingiu Dubingiu backyard acts as a biergarten, with always rotating selection of visiting foodtrucks making sure that you will never stay hungry for too long.“

“Regarding the looks and ambiance, everything was quite well summed by colleagues here. Just want remark, that whenever I visit Hop Doc, they always show the same videos on TV - 100 ways to open a bottle, promotional videos made by various breweries, ect. I would argue with gunnar, that this is a very good beer hunting destination, because most of the beers they offer, is international stuff, with strong emphasis on scandinavian stuff, post-modern stuff, and so on - all of this are quite global and cosmopolitic experience. Beer hunting, for me is all about struggling and searching for most unique, and authentich experiences, but nothing like just a finding another hoppy ale in another hip bar, which reminds you of another hip bar somewhere else, where they offering another trendy ale. In spite of that, this place is very important to Kaunas beer scene - Hop Doc (it was called Genys before) was one of the pioneering places in Kaunas (hats off to now shut Alaus Kultura OL - we remember you), and in the end acted as catalyst for establishing Genys Brewing co.“

“Cozy and honest place to a chat by the glass of beer. Lately, theirs beer selection been composed of classic stuff like german stuff represented by Franziskaner/Spaten, some local stuff, including oldest operating Kaunas brewery "Kauno alus" pale lager and stuff from another local brwery, but in this case more "craft" orientated "Genys" boys, and some belgium/american craft stuff (sierra and stone). It's not a beer paradise, but I just find this place alluring. Part of the charm lies in fact, the bar is situated in the former bohemian soviet cafe, so it's soaked in authencity and history. Just feels right.“

“Long narrow room, placed inside a blue wooden house, next to a busy road, this was our last bar visit in Kaunas, and it was a positive surprise. Long wooden bar, big blackboard with beers on tap, dark and minimalist interior, could easy stayed for longer, music played at our visit, New Order. (Visited with Bryne 11.10)“

“Located close to Hop Doc Gastropub, this is a rather tiny bar with a good botle selection. No hitters for us on draft, only the usual suspects, a bit spoiled after 2 days in Lithuania ? Be aware of the spiral staircase going down, easy to miss when you search the shelves for new beers. (Visited with Bryne 11.10)“

“This bar could easily be taken for an IKEA display, wood up and down, wood all over. Welded steel bar, molded plastic chairs, refrgerated glassware,modern muzak (Nicolas Jaar).Hipster heaven with weird tv shows on the screens, but 11 taps make this a very good beer hunting destination. 2 big fridges with international beer, classics from Belgium and USA (SN+Anchor) Recommendable place, good service. “Almost a corner pub, this one is actually named RePUBlic No.1, no 2 and 3 is also located in Kaunas. Big Oirish pub feel when you enter. 17 taps, macros mostly and a small bottle selection. We had a burger, ordinary meal, MOR music, Police, Springsteen on the speakers at conversation friendly volume, OK service, not a must visit. (Visited with Bryne 11.10)“

“We struggled to find this place, the building itself was easy to spot, but was the abandoned bar out with the smokers The place?- Certainly not, we found the door at the right side, and went several years back in time when entering. Reminded me of an old cafe at my hometown some 50 years ago, small tables and chairs, nice decorated wooden tiled floor, dark wood, 10 beers on tap, nothing wild or exciting, lively athmosphere, a place for students at lunchtime I reckon. Recommendable spot, not for the beer selection, more for the place itself. (Visited with Bryne 11.10)“

“Located in the outskirts of Kaunas city centre, on the way to the railway station, right across the street from Akropolis shopping mall. This is a bottle shop with "drink in" possibilities, large fridges (4) filled to the brim with local beers, and also a good selection of imported beers (UK,DK+EU), nicely separated by styles on the shelves. Renovated place with visible brick, wooden beams, sleek and modern interior wise, clean toilets, good service. We stayed for a beer and revisited later in the day. Recommendable spot. “Strange, from the outside you see an old, blue wooden building. Inside is more like hipster heaven: (or for bunker connoisseurs...) minimalist interior and grey concrete. But, great bottled selection, interesting beers on tap and friendly service. We shared two beers: Apynys Ropa and Pohjala Hooaeg. Also great music! Our last pub in Kaunas before heading back to the train station, on foot. We gave up finding a taxi. (Visiting October 11th 2017 with Gunnar)“
