“Traditional pub with a centrally located service area with a decent enough selection of cask ales available. In the midst of the universities in the northern part of the city centre, this is understandably a student pub so expect youthful clientele.“

56 /100 OLD POST OFFICE, 2 CITY SQUARE
“In the City Square with a fair amount of outdoor seating available, which is arguably its best feature given its a pleasant place to sup and watch the constant flow of people to and from the rail station. Inside it's a large square room with its bar against the back wall, with a modern design but sympathetic to the old building it frequents. Its drink selection is poor, with a rotating BrewDog regular the best option of an all keg selection of macro beers.“

“This is your typical BrewDog, but feels a bit in the wrong place. Ot’s up towards the top end of Leeds city centre. The inside is typical BrewDog warehouse style. The selection was mainly BrewDog beers with 4 guest beers. Nice enough.“

“Situated right near the train station. Almost walked past this little bar. It appeared more like a deli / bistro. But this has loads of beers, including cask and keg. Friendly staff and of friendly.“

64 /100 UNIT 6 TAVERNER'S WALK INDUSTRIAL ESTATEBREWERY TAPROOM WITH ELEVEN BEERS ON TAP PLUS A FR
“At the top end of North Street, (i.e not the BrewDog end) it occupies a middle unit in an industrial area accessed from the parallel Sheepscar Grove - and is an easy enough walk out of the centre. The Tap follows a similar pattern with temporary bench seating put out in the front area, in front of a purpose built bar serving its own brews, with the brewing equipment behind.“

“On the Northern side of the city centre with only the motorway between it and the BrewDog concern across the bridge. This is a bar-style pub with a 'student-like' simple appearance in a ground floor room. The current range of Brew York beers - regulars and guests are available on keg.“

“Salt have overtaken a previous 'bar' here and not made too many changes, with views overlooking the river and remaining an appealing place to drink with exposed brick-work prominent in this former warehouse. It obviously now carries a mainly SALT selection of cask and keg, but with some guest options available.“

“Nice old pub with lots of charm. Free wifi. Cheap for Leeds. A half of their own biter was 1.50. Most other cask beers were about 2.25 a half. Friendly place. Seems popular with the students.“

“Very large bar in central Leeds bar. Similar in style to other pubs in the chain. Plenty of keg, cask and cans. Probably 20-25 taps. Packed on the Saturday night I visited. Beers were mostly regional. Yorkshire and northeast breweries.“

“Wow, this place is something else. A brilliant craft beer menu almost comes second to the food menu, with cheese, charcuterie and sandwiches galore. It is a large open plan room, and during busy times you may need to be seated. The beer (5 casks, 10 kegs) consists of the Great and the good from Yorkshire, the rest of the UK and beyond: Cloudwater, Wiper and True, Newbarns, Old Chimney, St Bernardus, Burley Oak. Reasonable for what you're getting. Absolutely not be missed.“

“SALT bars are popping up everywhere and it's not hard to see why: the beers are generally well-made but certainly 'accessible' to both the aficionado and those new to craft beer. SALT Calls Landing is less than 48 hours old, and its shiny interior is attracting a good range of punters. While it doesn't have the range of, say, the Deptford bar, there's plenty here to keep me interested. Beyond SALT's core and special range they've got beers from Wilde Child and Harrogate. There are a fair few good bars around Calls Landing anyway, so you might as well check it out.“

“Popular dining pub in the Calls Landing area. It has neither the ambience nor the beer selection of its nearby Leeds Brewery cousin Crowd of Favours, but you're likely to find something from the small selection to whet your whistle - make sure you check the can menu! Outside seating with heaters incase you can't get a seat at this popular pub. Food is overpriced. Nice enough but can be missed.“

“Lovely old-fashioned multi-room tap house with plenty of cask, keg and bag-in-the-box ciders. There's quite a lot of Black Sheep in the cask - although i spotted Mill Hill, a local Leicestershire brewery - but there's more choice on keg with Floc, Vault City and Vocation. They are supposedly having a dark beer takeover but there were loads of pales to choose from. Note that they charge a lot more - I mean a LOT more - for two halves than they do a pint, so this may be a good place to get a pint in your fist. (This is why I've marked them down in the overall score, otherwise they'd easily by low to mid 80s.)“

“Lively music pub near the Calls Landing area. Traditional two-room pub with standing room only on a Sunday afternoon. The beer is cask, cask, cask and glorious with a few Ossetts on and about 8 other beers from West Yorks and beyond. I've got to leave early this evening but it looks like an amazing place to see a gig. Rough, ready and recommended.“

74 /100 HARPER STREET
“Cosy and slightly upmarket dining pub owned by Leeds Brewery. There's an even cosier room downstairs with 70s soul playing: Teddy Pendergrass, Diana Ross and Gladys Knight. The beer list is quite good really, with eight casks - mostly but not solely Leeds - and a few interesting keg. I went for a mid-strength milk stout by Fell which is turning out to be a very good choice: easily my beer of the evening. They've also got a small can list, but everything is something I'd want to drink. Not the epitome of a beer pub but worth a visit.“

82 /100 CRISPIN HOUSE, NEW YORK ROAD
“Not every BrewDog is the same. This could easily become a favourite. It appears to be a much smaller venue at first but downstairs is more cavernous with video games, pinball and shuffleboard. Friendly staff. Their influx of Christmas beers means that they have about 8 beers over 10% today, including beers from Moersleutel, Fuerst Wiacek, Berets, Tartarus and Amundsen. Expensive as expected but not impossible.“

Brunswick (Bar)
82 NORTH STREET, MABGATE
“Bright and cosy little corner bar in the northeast of the city. They seem to do a cracking trade in roasts on a Sunday but drinkers are welcome. Four cask and eight keg- the cask ain't up to all that much (although a Squawk pale ale did catch my eye) but the keg included Bullhouse, Northern Monk and Tilquin (fancy a pint of gueuze for £15)? I couldn't stretch to that, nor the £18 bottle of Lost Abbey Serpent's Stout, but the beer is very reasonable indeed. Recommended.“

78 /100 1A CROSS BELGRAVE STREET
“Excellent little BoHo-esque place in the New Briggate area. Mostly large wooden tables in the long single room. The beer list isn't exceptional but it's solid: Ridgeside, Black Sheep and Kirkstall on cask with the likes of Cloudwater, Five Points and more Kirkstall on keg. I didn't explore the 'guest can' list but saw there's a Northern Monk Patrons Project on it. Pizza by the slice or pie (half price slice on Sundays until 7) and burgers are available. Top stuff.“

66 /100 72 NEW BRIGGATE
“Modern large bar dedicated to Brew York's offerings. There were 15 taps, mostly if not all from Brew York. There's a good selection but it tends largely toward pales and sours. Expensive for what you get. I also wanted to eat, but you have to order through a QR code at the table which when i used it brought up a menu with only dipping sauces. It's okay I guess, but I prefer a bar where I can order food normally.“

“This was my hang-out spot while waiting for trains. They open at 11am, lending credence to the thought that you can't drink all day unless you start in the morning. I was always the only person in the place until noon when the bao stand opens. Long shared tables with uncomfortable stools; variety of sidewalk tables, both covered and sunny (yes it was sunny pretty much the whole week I was in Leeds). Nice variety of styles on tap, mostly tasty stuff from North Brewing, but some interesting guests as well, including a nice one from Kernel. Several small fridges of cans as well, one of which is dedicated to guest cans. Tap beers were pricey, fridge beers less so. Both included some non-alcoholic beers too. Bas were taty with plenty of veg options. Very friendly staff. Very worthwhile stop.“

72 /100 1 CHURCH ROW,
“Stopped in on a Tuesday evening and it was surprisingly busy, 5 deep queue for a beer and just about every table full on both levels. Upstairs tables have a nice view of the Minster and this corner of Leeds. Beers are mainly from Leeds brewery, not very exciting, but there were four guest casks on as well, and a selection of bottles. Nice place, but I'd like to find a quieter time.“

“Characterful old corner pub with lots of carved wood and etched glass, a snug with its own small bar and the other three rooms are served by a hallway bar. Four cask ales on offer but everyone was drinking Peroni for some reason. Tasty food in decent portions arrives via a dumbwaiter. Nice place.“

84 /100 18-24 NEW STATION ST
“Visited at lunchtime on 9th July 2022, with time to spare before my train. This intimate, low-ceilinged pub on the station approach attracts those who've just arrived into Leeds, those leaving the city, and some seemingly regular drinkers. Friendly staff with a sense of humour. From the extensive range available, Leeds Pale and Peloton were of benchmark quality, although in a brewery tap you'd expect no less! For those living close enough to day trip by train this makes a perfect "finishing" pub. Great stuff!“

76 /100 2 TEMPLAR STREET
“Visited on 8th July 2022 at end of a thrilling Leeds crawl. The outward appearance of the building somewhat belies its roomy, intimate interior. Sports shown on TV screens in the lounge - boxing on my visit. The Templar's attractions go beyond this though - a good range of cask ales, some local, are to be found if you explore the handpulls that are well spread out along the lengthy bar area. Kirkstall Three Swords soon became Kirkstall Three Pints as I stayed in until closing time with a local who'd struck up a friendly chat. Camra Discount applies at 10% for card-carrying members. Well worth a visit.“

80 /100 4 TURK’S HEAD YARD
“Unspoilt gem tucked away in the centre of town. This historic, intimate, ornately tiled and wood-panelled hostelry is a rewarding find. Businesslike yet friendly service at the bar. Well-kept cask ale on my visit of 8th July 2022 - Fell Foss and Horsforth Pale were poured faultlessly. Attracts a varied clientele of locals who come in after work, groups out for a session, and visitors like myself from outside the city. If I'd had a second night in Leeds I'd have spent far longer in here. Recommended.“

“16 taps, about half of them from Brew York. Offers beer flights with four thirds in each flight. Two rooms in a colourful decor, kind of east Asian impression. Outdoor seating in front of the bar. Street food options. Polite service. Close to other beer locations like BrewDog North Street, Belgrave Musichall, and North Bar. (Visited 06.07.2022).“

“Basically the same place as the new location of Little Leeds Beerhouse. Small-medium sized, modern room with five rows of beers in the fridges close to the bar, which offers ten beers on tap and one cask ale. Their draught beers can be served in thirds. All of the five beers I had were in very good condition. Modern British indie-pop in the background. Friendly and informative service. Central location in a back street close to the pedestrian area in town. Fair prices. (Visited 05.07.2022).“

70 /100 161 WOODHOUSE LANE
“A historic former Tetley’s pub in the university district of Leeds, that once stood as a hotel. Appearance of the Fenton is of a somewhat tatty but unspoilt multi-roomed community pub with plenty of character and warmth. Staff are friendly and attentive, and locals will strike up conversations with visitors in a welcoming manner. Pub hosts a multitude of events such as quizzes, pool tournaments and open mic nights. Beer range comprises small and mostly local breweries, and those I sampled were well kept. During my visit a fancy dressed local rugby club walked in, who were boisterous but friendly enough! This pub is on Camra’s Heritage pubs list and worthy of inclusion in any Leeds pub crawl.“

78 /100 3 SOVEREIGN SQUARE, SOVEREIGN STREET
“Medium-sized, modern taphouse not terribly far from the train station. Quiet but by no means deserted on a terrible weather Thursday, this seemed like a good choice to try a beer or two. The draught choice seemed bigger than it was as wine and cocktails are also listed, although it is plenty with about 17 taps given over almost entirely to North and their wonderful beers. Another place with a good beer fridge as well, so if you want more choice (or want something other than North) then this would be a great bet. Wish the seating was more comfortable for a middle aged guy like me. There are plenty of outside benches but not in the mood to brave the rain and hail!“

88 /100 30 CENTRAL ROAD
“Exceptional little beer cafe which has table seating and a draft beer menu. The tableside water is an excellent touch. There's usually 10 keg and one cask on but today there were only 8 keg, plenty for me to choose from with de la Senne, Cloudwater, Pressure Drop and Donzoko among others. There's also 5 bottle fridges if the draught list doesn't do it for ya. A must when in Leeds.“

64 /100 6 PARK ROW
“On the fringe of the main shopping areas of the city centre, just beyond the northern side of City Park, this is a fairly big pub with a large glass frontage and tables and chairs put out onto the pedestrian area out front. The venue has depth and the bar is deep into the building with the usual mix of rotating cask and craft keg associated with this chain. Food is served too. Visited on a very quiet Sunday evening so not much was going on with hardly anyone in.“

“The exception to the rule that Head of Steam pubs are great. Smalling comfortable compared to their behemoth newer establishments, but the beerblist leaves a lot to be desires. Basic stuff on cask, basic stuff on keg. Barman got my order wrong. I just can't get excited about this pub.“
