“At the far end of the shopping area along the main road in Headingley, this is a wonderfully converted shop unit in the traditional pub sense with a heavy wood design but tastefully decorated, it's relaxing and appealing. The cask selection is pretty good here too with plenty of choice, I dare say the keg selection has got better since my visit a couple of years ago.“

“Just off the main road in the shopping area of Headingley this Head of Steam is bigger and more modern in appearance to the one in the city centre. The long bar along the left wall carries a good mix of cask and keg ales from their current selection, including locally produced brews.“

“Plenty of handpumps. Even some craft beer cans and bottles in a beer fridge. Some from Cambden vocation and Meantime. Free WiFi. The taps are mostly from Yorkshire which is nice to see.“

“Traditional pub with a new age name as a variant of its previous incarnation. I was a little suspicious of the name to begin with given it was accompanied by a Greene King sign, but it's certainly worth a look in, especially as it's only 20 metres away from the Beer Ritz bottle shop. There's perhaps more real ales than craft ales in its cask selection, but with 12 hand pumps (10 in use on my visit), and only one ale actually from the Greene King portfolio there's plenty of choice here. There's definitely a Yorkshire microbrewery bias in its selection. If you want something actually crafted then this will be from its fair bottle and can selection from behind the long bar that runs most of the length of the middle of this chain looking pub. I actually opted for a real cider, and the choices here are just as good, with 13 boxes stacked in a pyramid at one end of the bar. 10 of these were from Lilley's, 2 from Westons and one from Cockeyed.“

“This bar has just had a much needed expansion, doubling its capacity and making it by far the best bar/pub in Headingly. This bar is situated at the end of the Arndale centre, and spreads across two floors; the second of which has a glass sliding wall creating a alfresco experience. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, offering free taste testers. The place has a very cosy homely feel about it with free board games and books to use. The range of beers on offer is very good here but not as comprehensive as other bars in Leeds (most notably Northbar, but allot cheaper). They have around 3 taps reserved for guest ales which they get in quite frequently, and other taps with local favourites such as Leeds best, Timmy Tailor and Black sheep. They have a medium size wine selection at reasonable prices, and offer some basic bar food. This bar is very quite during the day, but on Friday and Saturday nights it can get far too busy and given the limited bar length this can cause large que’s. All in all this bar is a great place to enjoy a good beer and a chat with friends at a very competitive price (I.E. £3.60 for a bottle of Delirium). “
