“Stopped in the beer shop first, wasn't overly impressed with their offerings. Very small. Went into the restaurant from there, sat at the bar. Vibe and decor are ike a more upscale Bennigans. Tap list was nice, Trillium, Russian River, Hill Farmstead. Can't beat that. Had some chili, hit the spot. Service was great. Very quiet for a Friday afternoon. Go for the taps, not the bottles.“

“Late on a Monday, this place was still quite active, with a lot of obvious regulars and locals. A little cramped, but in a cozy way. Massive bar, and lots of taps and bottles floating about. Generally dim and low-key. The bartenders were friendly and quick. The tap list is simply outstanding, with several absurd vintage taps, and quality local and regional stuff. The prices were surprisingly reasonable, given what was being poured. The food I had was fair, but not outstanding - probably the weakest part of the experience. But, the cherry on top is the nice bottle shop out back! Nice little spot, with a quality selection of singles, including vintage stuff and local randomness. I spent hours here, and enjoyed it thoroughly! If your are anywhere in the area, this is a required visit.“

“Love this place. Family owned for more than 40 years. Great craft tap list. Good food. Great service. My bartender/server, Carla was the bomb! On my visit, I sampled Lost Abbey Cuvée de Tomme, Dark Horse BBA Plead the 5th and Veil We We Ded Ded! Worth a visit if you’re in the Philly area. Even more, they have a craft beer shop that has some real gems including many vintage classics!“

“Free parking on the side. Small bottle shop with high end selection. Please note this place does not take Discover. Had to wait for the guy to check me out even though I was the only one there. Selection is limited in quantity, but is high in quality. Pricing was going rate.“

“Visited on a busy Friday night, plenty of parking and short wait for a booth. The place is pleasantly informal, with a simple food menu plus nightly specials. Scallop small plate special was fine. Service was attentive and friendly. I plan to return, largely due to the fantastic beer selection.“

“Nettes Restaurant in den Vororten von Philadephia. Schöne Auswahl an Bieren, lokale und Ostküste. Bedienung war leider nicht besonders kenntnisreich, der gelobte Besitzer war wohl nicht vor Ort. Burger war überdurchschnittlich, Preise okay! “

“Awesome place in the burbs of Philly. Really seems like you walked into a scene from the Sopranos with the characters and people here. Friendly staff, and great selection of world class beer. Their store is also something else, and you can sip beer on tap and peruse. They happened to have some Crusher cans in there when I arrived and copped the last one when the guy said he had one left. Some really old vintage stuff here as well.“

“Visited Capone’s last week. Very nice craft beer bar with some "dive" vibes. Met owner Matt Capone who seems to know a LOT about craft beers and history of all the craft beer culture in USA. Thanks for the last Singlecut Bon Bon IIPA Matt! Small bottleshop behind bar was interesting. Didn’t try any food. Location is little bit of problematic for European travellers because it is practically impossible to get there by public transport. Luckily I had driver with me for my session.“

“This place should be reviewed as bar/restaurant and a store. As the bar it wasn’t the successful. 35 beers on tap, but only one of real interest to try, Rodenbach Alexander. The rest were easily and commonly available. So that was pretty disappointing. The food was all bar food, so I wasn’t really thrilled to eat there. Some fried pickles were nice. The beer store was pretty nice with a varied selection. Sadly, I just missed Matt, who seems like he would have been great to talk. The person that helped me was nice but didn’t know a whole lot so it made the experience less than what I was hoping for. I’m guessing there is a lot of rare stuff but you gotta come when Matt is there and be on his list. I still did get a couple rarer PA and VA ticks. Prices are very high. Not worth coming out of you way to hi up, but if I was local I’d frequent.“

“Definite diner vibe, dark. Many taps, but nothing particularly unusual or inviting. Ended up not making any purchase in the restaurant area, as I did not want ticks for ticks sake and I wasn’t hungry. Then stopped by the bottle shop, staffed by a curmudgeonly but friendly shopkeeper. Lots of nooks and crannies, so keep your eyes peeled. Lots of rare and unusual stuff. Prices are staggeringly high. I assume some of this is because of PA law, but still more expensive than any other place I’ve seen in PA. Generally $3.50 or more for any single. Parking was ample.“

“Pretty solid place on a major road with plenty of parking in front and on the side. Bar area as you enter is nicely decored with plenty of seating. Restaurant area behind looked pretty nice as well. I did not check the bottle list, although I should have. Tap list was pretty good, although there was a bit of a focus on west coast stuff. I can see that being attractive to the locals, but being FROM the west coast I didnt really need Knee Deep and Lost Abbey ticks. I ordered a flight of four and my bill was like $15, which seems a bit crazy to me. There is also a bottle shop in the back. Selection is fair, but the prices on the more unusual bottles are kinda crazy expensive. $18 for a World Wide Stout?? Otherwise, nice place.“

“I’d heard and read about this place for some time...and had wanted to visit...had a chance recently to detour a bit on a drive from VA back to NJ. I had heard the food was hearty but not special...but the beer and people were great. Turned out to be true on all accounts. Nonetheless I had a great surprise upon arriving on a Sunday night. Turned out it was Lost Abbey/Port Brewing night...which in and of itself would have made the trip here great...but it gets better...being the start of Philly beer week...I lucked into a visit from the whole Lost Abbey/Port Brewing crew. That meant I got to meet the man himself...Tomme Arthur! Got a picture too...thanks to their marketing manager Adam who I got to talk and drink with. Of course I was drinking a ton of rare and less common Lost Abbey/Port Brewing beers (a little heaver on the Abbey side). So of course I had a great adventure...and fantastic visit. Getting back to Capone’s itself though...like I said up top...really great beers...fun place with good if not great ambiance...great staff...food maybe a bit ordinary...but nothing bad. This is a place I would definitely visit again...especially on a special night like a tap takeover...but I don’t think I’d visit often...too many other better places to explore.“

“Great gem of a bar and restaurant about 25 minutes outside of Philadelphia. They had rotating taps with beers from all over the United states with some rare, some local and a couple of traditionals. The service courteous, quick and what I would expect. The food itself was quite good for bar fare. Quite the selection and the serving size was also great. Overall, a great place that has stood the test of time and will continue to do so regardless of how the craft movement changes. Great place to have some beers. Must visit.“

“Visited on Black Friday, 29/11/13. Capones is a moderately sized bar/diner that accomodates perhaps 60 or so folks seated with around a dozen stools at the bar where we managed to squeeze in. Probably an a-typical visit in terms of it being Black Friday which carries a special beer list and the place was pretty swamped at 12.45 pm. We stayed for a couple of hours and the place maintained it’s same busy edge but the service held up just fine. Crowd was local with a few beer geeks evident ticking some of the rareties and one offs, local BA specials plus a HF beer and other interesting stuff from around the US. The bottle shop is located to the rear and caries a solid selection of singles (not common in many PA liquor stores) from PA and around the US and Europe. Tasting flight available at the bar which helped us work through the list. Had a hot sandwich at the bar which was decent. Solid venue with the bonus of a decent bottle shop adjoining. As I said, I hit it with a special tap list on offer so I could have dropped a few points on another day so whilst solid - probably not quite the world class tag for me.“

“Visited 04/03/15. Not an easy drive from Philly, even in light afternoon traffic. Capone’s is a tired-looking Italian restaurant with a small bottle shop attached. The bottle selection’s pretty modest, with perhaps 250 beers available (the listed number’s way too high). The selection available in the shop mixes high and low. For instance, I walked out with a local sour and a 40 of Colt 45 Double Malt. It’s a solid spot, but not particularly memorable. Service was bright and cheery. My experience in the restaurant was fine. I sat at the bar and received prompt if somewhat surly service. The 25ish taps offered a decent selection of Belgian-inspired beers (La Trappe, Chimay) alongside a couple of locals (Stoudts, Fegleys). While the beer list was decent, it fell short of what I expected from a place with such a lofty reputation. I walked away not regretting my visit, but feeling that there’s places in the area where I’d rather spend my time.“

“When I pulled up it was totally not what I was expecting. Looked like an unassuming Italian restaurant with a long bar. Got a taplist that was heavily focused on local beer, more so than any other bar I found around the area, which was a big plus. Service was prompt even though it was extremely busy (and I went on a Monday!). Bottle shop out back is a tiny room with tons of good beer. Prices are high but the selection is amazing.“

“Glad I stopped by here for their annual Black Friday event. Awesome selection and 20 taps. Not a bad beer on tap. Of course this was a special event but the feel of the place was still cozy. I will definitely go back again.“

“Thanks to Adrian for showing me his favorite beer establishment. It is a very fine place. The back is a little bottle shop that is packed with superb releases - somebody obviously puts some care into the place. The prices are high, but acceptable for such a fine selection. The front is a pleasant bar/restaurant, with muted decor and several TVs. Service was friendly, and the food was pub fare - I had the crab cake sandwich, which was good and well priced. Adrian likes the salad with grilled chicken. I had one of their specials once too - the jambalaya, which did not impress - better stick to the basics. There are 30 taps going, with new brews coming in all the time, There is always something exciting and hard to find on their draft list! One complaint: they serve everything very cold, even in the middle of winter. A lot of brews are not served best in this way. Capone’s is a really good place - #1 beer joint in the Philly area, and it is well worth a visit. Where Matt Capone and his crew really excel - this is what puts Capone’s head and shoulders above other, perfectly good, beer establishments - is in the area of special events. They get the best brews in the world in here, and often they are accompanied by the men who brewed them. I can’t think of another place that can match them in this regard.“

“So, this is the famous Capones? The service was mostly cougars hitting on young guys. I watched one waitress who was battling a foamy keg pour beer into a second glass and then decant from one to the other, using her finger (unwashed after handling money) to hold the foam back. Wow! The food was standard pub food, nothing special. I finished up and walked around back to check out this special beer store, and found a 10 x 10 cramped room with a few bottles, nothing particularly special - maybe I am jaded.“

“Ambiance - restaurant bar side is nice, not out of this world. Not the sexiest location either, but it’s good Service - wait staff is very nice, store guy is so-so. Selection - they do have some stuff that is vintage, and some odd-ball stuff, but nothing I can’t find anywhere else. It’s overrated honestly. Food - is very good, portions are a nice size Value - somethings in the bottle store are a little over market value. A nice place, not off the wall though.“

“Solid outing during the Black Friday event. The special line-up aside, the reputation of this place is well deserved. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Food was decent and as expected for the type of place. Bottle shop was thoughtfully-cultivated. It was like being in someone else’s cellar. The prices are high but not unexpected. Great experience.“

“I was only in Norristown for the night, but Capone’s was a great place to stop. Enjoyed an Ithaca Flower Power and some food. Bottle shop in the back was a little disappointing, but I think it had more to do with what I was in the mood for than their selection.“

“The renown Capones Restaurant didn’t disappoint during the RBSG. Over 20 taps of carefully selected beers, no turkey there. An extensive bottle list. Large bar to sit around. The place itself looks like an old semi-classy restaurant that manages to keep a true pub atmosphere. A bottle shop in the back where you can buy things to go. Again the bottle shop is small (VERY SMALL) but the selection is carefully selected and you may come across a gem or two. I did. Prices (especially at the bottle shop) are a bit stiff but PA beer bars in general are the not very cheap. A place I’d really like to go back to but that may not happen because this place is not super accessible unless you drive there. But with a beer selection like this, I just cannot take the car to such a bar.“

“Combination bottle shop/restaurant/tap house..bottle shop has a wealth of variety and rarities..singles.packs were available with a good selection of bombers as well..space is not big in shop but there is room to browse around..Matt is friendly and helpful and willing to offer quality recommendations..ate at bar for lunch..liked the sampler option as they had over 30 drafts which they are willing to do growlers for as well.draft list was solid..only downside I didn’t notice any prices on beer menu..sampled some pretty tasty grilled chicken fingers and roast beef sandwich..food was good as well..nicely prepared simple tavern offerings..inside feel is not really your typical pub style..but they don’t call themselves a pub/gastropub..well worth a visit..“

“Rating is primarily about the bottle shop. Eaten there once and the food was above average. Beer selection was excellent and from regularly watching their tap list I know they commonly get rare beers such as PTY and KBS. Servers were older females with little knowledge of craft beer. Bottle shop is fantastic. They get every beer you can think of, which is very deceiving considering how small it is. Only slight downside is pricing. If another place has a beer, it's probably cheaper, but the majority of places don't even have the beers you see at Capones so pricing is a trade off. Owner of place is very knowledgeable and provides great service. Really nice guy. Love going to this place!!“

“Meh. I came in through the store side and took a look at what they had first. Decent selection but prices were higher than The Beer Store. The restaurant itself is connected to the store and accessible from there. Long bar with lots of patrons. Nice mix of crowd from old to young and beers fans ranging from craft to Miller Lite drinkers. Friendly staff. Menu is ok and contains mostly fried bar food or sandwiched. Had the double dip wings and chicken sandwich (both were average). Overall, this was not worth the "hype" in my opinion. I would have rather gone to Tired Hands.“

“I go to the bottle shop nearly weekly and eat and drink here at least once a month. Interesting place. Mix of business people and blue collar workers frequent the place. Some drinking crafts, other drinking macro brews. The selection of beer very solid in both the bottle shop and on tap. One of the best bottle shops in the region and certainly the best I know of in the ’burbs. Matt, who runs the place, is also a great guy. Food tends to be standard bar food type but its good. If I lived in the suburbs I’d come here much more frequently.“

“The restaurant is a friendly engaging place with many tables, many servers. Lots of good taps, including some rare ones, and reasonably priced The best part for me is the bottle shop. A bit pricey, like 25% over the best places I have shopped, but the quality and selection were incredible. Lots of special editions and oaked versons.Maine Beers I have missed. Matt was terrific, bringing up some bottles I have missed last year. A regular e-mail with all the latest deliveries. 18 bottles for $331, yet I even regret not getting more. “

“Ambiance is a long L shaped bar, a little tought to get around through the tables, but nice cozy setup. Service was always willing to get us refills and to suggest things on the menu. Selection was just amazing, hill farmstead, three floyds, Cigar City, and many more amazing stuff. Not extremely cheap, but well worth it for the selection. “Decent atmosphere with bar seating and some small tables in the front of the restaurant. Two televisions airing sports hang at each end of the bar. The draft list is fantastic. Capone’s has a varied selection including beers from Russian River, Jolly Pumpkin, Hill Farmstead, Ballast Point, Weyerbacher, Ithaca, and more. The bottle shop carries a variety of American, Belgian, and German craft brews. The bar also offers growlers to go, which totally rocks. Matt Capone is a knowledgable beer connoisseur, always cheerful and willing to help customers with their beer needs. Simply outstanding customer service. The cheesesteak and wings were both delicious. Standard bar fare, with a few tweaks. Good food. Overall, a must visit for any beer lover.“

“Not what I was expecting. They have 30 drafts and a huge bottle list but you wouldn’t know it if you go at 5pm where most of the folks are swigging BMC from the bottle. The decor, at least in the bar area, is a bit shopworn and rough around the edges. Service was perfunctory. They had a really good draft list, no crap on tap here. Still it was a bit disconcerting to see a large ice display full of macro lagers. I might go back if I’m in the area but I won’t make a special trip.“

“Lunch on 2/18/12 with Barb. Had a beer blend they called chocolate covered strawberry which was a mix of Youngs Double Chocolate Stout & Fruli Strawberry. A couple of the other drafts that I wanted to try were already gone. Barb had the crab cake sandwich & I had the cheesesteak. Both were served with generous portions of fries and the sandwiches were quite large & delicious. Service was good although 10 minutes after we arrived (1 pm) the place exploded with customers and the wait staff did not appear adequate to handle so many people. They pressed on, however, and explained that they would do their best with the sudden "rush" of people. Met Matt, the owner, in the bottle shop where I found a superior amount of ales from around the world at reasonable prices. We will be back.“

“Nice little restaurant and bottle shop for PA. They have a great selection of beers from all over the country and from over seas, one of the best in the states in fact. “A: I love the atmosphere at this place. My wife and I have sat a table once or twice, but we normally sit at the bar and chat with whoever is around. Everyone on staff is very friendly and there are generally a few other beer geeks to talk with. Q: Great, great beer available on tap and in bottles. Nothing at all to complain about. S: Impeccable. Matt does a superb job with the bottle shop and the bartenders are always immensely friendly. S: From the draft list to the bottle shop--and not even mentioning all the special events--this is one high-quality bar and bottle shop and one of the best that I’ve been to. Matt gets in all sorts of great stuff both in bottles and on tap. F: The food is quite tasty, though I will say I haven’t ventured out very much, nearly always grabbing the cheesesteak. The bottle shop can be a bit pricey, but that’s just the nature of the beast in PA. The draft prices and especially the food prices are quite reasonable.“
