“Visited around dinner time on a Friday. Located just off of K-10 and Cedar Creek Parkway, easy to find with plenty of parking. The building is big and open with a long bar and tables throughout three rooms, and a big outdoor area with bags, and an area to sit amongst hop vines. Very bright and clean design. 18 beers on, 2 of which were house beers. Available as half or full pours. Guest taps are all local breweries, including a few I haven't seen elsewhere. They're associated with Kansas Hop Co and pour beers that feature their Hops. The night I visited, they had a food truck, and they also have a smaller menu themselves. Tall Trellis is also open as a coffee shop throughout the day, vastly expanding their hours, and they looked equally serious about the coffee craft. I really enjoyed my visit, look forward to the expansion of the Tall Trellis beer offerings. For KC visitors, this would be a nice stop to or from visiting Lawrence breweries. 82 = ★★★½ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“New location for this brewery. Nice and clean with excellent wait staff. Decent selection of about a dozen of their beers. Prices were fair. Lots of room. Nice liquor store close by. Well worth a visit.“

“Staying in a nearby hotel. Never been to Kansas before today, and boy, did I do it the long way, drove from Liberal, KS to Olathe. 503 miles driven today. One of my bucket list goals is to have a beer in every state from a brewery from that state. I envision that's a draft beer at a brewery or beer bar, but, given my gastritis attack and chronic severe cough, it's a beer in my hotel room. But I did tick Free State Stormchaser, which I got here. Bigger Whole Foods. Still sticking to COVID protocols pretty well. Staff all friendly. I don't think the Tap Room is open (most of these venues are closed due to COVID). The beer selection to go is pathetic. Some good local stuff but only a few shelves and the BYO section is a joke. Not worthy of any Whole Foods. I looked around and saw no other sign of beer. Got some dumplings to go and they were quite good. Overall, probably a pass, at least until COVID is over.“

“Visited on a Saturday evening with my wife. First visit since they moved from Spring HIll several years ago, Located in a newer strip mall on the Northeast corner of Santa Fe Road and K-7. Plenty of parking. Layout is a big open room with tables and a long bar, with a nice back patio with plenty of additional seating. The walls are all garage doors on both sides, so on nice days this place can be completely open air. 12 house beers on draft, available in full, half or taster flights. This is about double the selection I remember from the old location. Nice variety of styles. Food menu had sandwiches, wraps, tacos; everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. Service was great, even though she had a huge section, she was attentive and friendly. Fun, happy crowd. Good spot to hit on a nice day. (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“My first visit to this store in Olathe. Will visit again if going by. Decent selection, especially since you can buy singles of anything. Friendly service and prices seemed very reasonable. Clean and modern.“

“The Lone Elm Taproom is located inside the Whole Foods. 12 taps which include 1 cider. Excellent service, prices seemed very fair. Did not try their food. All local (Kansas & Missouri) beers. Enjoyed my visit.“

“Visited at lunch time on a Tuesday. Shiny new Whole Foods, off of 119th Street in the main commercial area of new Olathe. First off, Kansas liquor laws do not allow for the normal setup of the Whole Foods beer experience, where you can shop for beers, have a beer on site, and take growlers to go. Therefore, this is simply a cafe within a Whole Foods that offers draft beer. The Lone Elm Taproom is located in the front right corner and features typical Whole Foods cafe food options + 12 local beers (Boulevard, Torn Label, KC Bier, Free State, Martin City, etc) on tap. Often they do tap takeovers, and generally have harder to find offerings from local breweries. Wine is available as well, and both beverages are offered as flights so you can try multiples relatively easily. Food is really great here. The guy working the bar was crazy friendly, really knowledgeable and added much to the ambiance. Given the restrictions on this place, they do a nice job. If laws are changed, and they can go full boat, would be a nice option for this side of town - as it stands, just a cafe with a solid tap list.

Smooth Liquor (Beer Store)
18114 WEST 119TH STREET
“Visited mid afternoon on a Sunday. Easy to find west of I-35 on 119th Street. Smaller strip mall Liquor Store, clean inside and nicely laid out. Beer is on one of the far end caps (large format warm) along with maybe 8 doors of craft in the cooler. Solid selection of most of the locally available craft brands, though nothing stood out as too hard to find or limited. A small mixed six selection is available, though nothing really of note in it. Worth checking out if you are close by.

“Visited on a Sunday afternoon as I was running errands in the area. Really clean and nicely designed store. Beer is along one full wall with a long rack of warm and a facing fridge selection. Additionally, there is a beer grotto with additional offerings. Selection is among the best I have seen in Kansas. Large selection of singles, appeared to be most of the beers that they had for sales. Prices were decent, and I saw some harder to find beers. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. I’ll certainly be back when I am in the area.

76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)

King’s Liquor (Beer Store)
18589 W 151ST ST
“Visited on a Sunday afternoon as I was running errands in the area. Easy enough to find on 151st Street east of I-35. Layout is traditional liquor store, with beer in the back in coolers and warm on a shelf. Selection is solid, featuring most of the better beers Kansas has access to. Single selection is somewhat limited, though price was solid at $2 per single or $10 mixed six pack. Service was friendly. If I lived closer, I would put this in my rotation.

70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

“Probably the best beer selection in Olathe. Recently, they moved a couple doors down and greatly expanded their beer section. Their singles selection is better than both Lukas Liquors--and you can by them individually (Lukas makes you buy singles a six-pack at a time). And if there’s anything you want, they’ll stock it for you.“

“Not bad considering it’s a chain. Good craft selection and two rotating locals (Tallgrass and Boulevard). Pints only $4.50 which isn’t bad these days. Can also create your own flight of any 4 draft beers; many places only let you pick from a narrower selection OR their pre-made flights. Four 4-oz. glasses in a flight are the same as a pint, so no upcharge for flights. Another bonus.“

“Over the years this establishment has continually added to their selection. They have a very good "pick your 6" offering, and also carry a good selection of local, regional and international beers. They are a little lean on the cider. For a relatively small store (compared to MDL and other "super" liquor stores, they have a lot squeezed in.“

“This location hasn’t been reviewed in quite a few years. Their beer selection has improved dramatically - locals, regionals, micro brews. Great selection of the Boulevard Smokestack series. Friendly service and they will also order brews for you if they don’t have them in stock.“

“Located in an older strip mall. Beer is located along the back wall in coolers, and on about half a rack in the warm area. Selection is pretty typical for the Kansas side. Import selection was pretty tiny, regular lineup of all the locals. They do a mix a six for $9.99. Really no special releases to speak of. Decent store if you are in the area, though likely not worth the drive.“

“This is part of the Metcalf Discount Liquor chain. This location is slightly bigger than the other stores, though the beer selection is probably a touch less. They have a lot of macros, decent local selections in 6 packs, and a smallish mix a six area. Staff was really helpful, searched in back for a beer I was looking for, and also called to the other locations (unasked to do so) to see if they could accommodate. Up the selection a bit, in this could be a good choice on that side of town.“

“This is the Olathe, Kansas location of the national brew pub chain. Interior design was identical to the other GC I have been too, very generic and bland. Service was really good, bartender was friendly, and offered nice suggestions and knowledge on the beers and food. As noted in the beer review, they serve their beer CRAZY cold. I ordered the lunch size Cheddar and Bacon burger. Decent burger, nothing memorable though. Overall, same recommendation as the other GC I have visited, if you are in from out of town, there is no reason for you to hit this place. If you are local, or in the area and want a decent enough pint, this place will serve.

“Hey, its an Old Chicago. Food is always good, from pizzas to pasta to sandwiches I have always been happy with the food. Big tap selection of mostly common beers. Decent selection of rotating seasonals. If you are new to craft beer, and want to try some new beers - this is a good choice. If you are stuck near here for work and can’t get anywhere else in town - this is a good choice. If you are a beer nerd with wheels, you were never considering this place anyway.

“If you’ve never been to a GCFB before, here’s the basic scoop. The ambience, away from the bar, is on par with an upscale suburban family restaurant. The service is usually pretty good at a table, but expect to wait a long time for a drink at the bar, especially on a busy night. The beer selection is limited to a stable of four regular brews (all of which are pretty middle-of-the-road), one blend, and if you’re lucky, one seasonal. Ironically, the seasonals, which rarely last more than a couple weeks, are almost always better than the regular stuff. Perhaps they should consider some of them for their standard brews. The food, however, has always been top-notch for a brew-pub. Only Free State comes close on the food. All 3 locations, here in KC, are pretty much the same. I’ve been to them all, but the Olathe location gets my nod for #1. Why? It’s close to home, and Olathe has a No Smoking Ordinance. ’Nough said.“

“This is just like all of the other Old Chicagos, more or less. Only this one has 2 big things going for it. One, it’s located in the parking lot of one of the best movieplexes in the city. So, you can grab something other than BMC before or after your flick. Two, Olathe has a No Smoking Ordinance in effect, so you can actually sit at or near the bar and enjoy a beer or watch a game without sucking on someone else’s pollution.“

“Visited for lunch on a Friday. Pretty much identical to the other Granite City locations I’ve been to. Nice enough on the inside, and located in a shopping area. Food was really good, which has always been the case in my GCFB experiences. The service was kinda slow, but the guy was new. The beers are what they are. Brewed for the masses, so they neither offended nor delighted me. I might go back sometime, if I’m in the area and hungry. No place I’d go to just for the beer.“

“Its Old Chicago. The only thing that makes this one any different is the fact that its in the same parking lot as the movie theatres. So when in Olathe, KS you can get a decent (although not rare) beer while hitting up the movies.“

“This is a little liquor store with a really good (for Kansas) selection of beers. They have a guy there in charge of beer that knows his way around the selection and I have never been there for more than a minute without being asked if I need help. They have one of the best and cheapest mix a six in the KC area. I think they have just about everything you might find at other KS side KC area liquor stores and the prices always seem to be a bit cheaper. They have a decent selection of Belgians, the Goose Island Special beers, a couple Great Divide bombers and sixers, a good selection of Kanas beers, and some other good stuff. 151st and Mur-Len Rd.“
