“Interesting beer store. The entrance was hard to find. It is at the Molenstraat side (not the Brouwerstraat which is also listed on the website) and you have to walk through the warehouse into something that resembles a beer store. We were surrounded by several guys who where moving large amounts of beer crates through the beer display area which makes it a bit chaotic. I found some interesting beers both on the shelves as in the crates and boxes (that the guy who helped me encouraged me to explore), including an unknown kriekenbier, several saisons, several craft beer breweries. All beers where Belgian btw, only trapists beers from other countries. This comes nowhere near the stock they have at DeConinck, De Caigny or Geers.“

“Gave this place a try on a West Flanders overnighter from UK. Friendly and helpful staff encourage British beer lovers to wander in and buy whatever they like - "send your friends!" - as the owner put it, one bottle of each or by the crate he doesn’t mind. But, it being a warehouse, I expect you need to buy a fair amount for the welcome to continue. You can pay the deposit on a crate, bring your own boxes or they will give free cardboard boxes if you ask. I bought 99 bottles for €139, the €0.10 deposit on bottles bringing it up to €149. Beers I bought ranged in price from €0.94 for St Bernardus Extra 4 to €5.76 for the Vandewalle Reninge Kriek from a micro just down the road on the way to Westvleteren... Great West Flanders ales from Van Eecke and St Bernardus were going from €1-€1.20 depending on their gravity. There were some very cheap but well-rated sour red/brown type beers for that price too. I got some Ichtegems Grand Cru for €1.32 and the last five Echte Kriek at €1.09... They had De Dolle beers for ~€1.90, reputable lambic-based beers starting at €2 for Girardin. Lots of different brewers if you like to tick. The list at http://www.vandewoudedranken.be/en/assortiment/bieren is out of date but is sort of representative of the variety. I stuck to 25/33/37.5 bottles but there was a good selection of 75s and some larger on offer. Prices were just a fraction less than the big supermarkets but the warehouse was cool and some of the beers seemed to have been hanging around for a while, which in Belgium can be a good thing! Plus the choice was far better. This is a working warehouse with huge lorries reversing off the street [ask where to leave your car], a fork-lift truck shunting around and a warehouseman trundling crates on a trolley down the narrow aisles of the "specialist beer" section where all the swag is to be had. He was very patient with me but it was hard to keep out of his way and I imagine that it could get a bit chaotic if there were even four or five customers mooching around in the tight space. Crates are stacked with little indication of their contents so you have to explore... a real Aladdin’s cave and worth popping in for an hour. Not even an hour’s drive along the coastal autoroute from Calais for UK day trippers. On my list now for future trips! See also Noel Cuvelier for an alternative in a more conventional shop [but a warehouse alongside if you want beer by the crate] if you go along the autoroute from Dunkerque to Lille.“

“Typical Belgian big storage full of drinks. Great selection of beers for really low prices. They have lots of the usual Belgians, but also some more special stuff in the Lambic section and occasionally some good Struise. Nice place, especially the low prices. Friendly people.“

“Visited 26/04/14. This was our first visit to VDW, although we e-mailed our intent and received a prompt, friendly reply. We have been doing a biannual beer trip to Ieper for some years but not discovered this gem. As we know what we want, infinite choice is not important but even so they have all of our staples & some rarities as well, including lots of De Dolle/Struise. The prices are the best we have found around Ieper and overall our basic shopping list is much cheaper here. Especially by the crate. Add to this the opportunity to explore the warehouse & pick up on the rarer items and Alladin’s Cave no longer seems a Fairy Tale. The staff are brilliant! True their English is only marginally better than our non existent Flemish but gestures, beer mats & ball point pens get round all the obstacles. My friend & I were simply blown away by the service and for the first time ever in Belgium we were told not to worry if we ran in to their lunch break! We’ve had some sore knuckles on that score elsewhere. We didn’t test the offer however. In all there were four staff during our visit. Each contributed to the quality of our experience and we have an everlasting memory of the young lady ascending a column of Struise crates to recover bottles from the topmost one. A final bonus is the Frituur just round the corner - another gem but busy. If like us you know what you need or even if you don’t make for the area and give this one to try. Use their website, stock list and this website to decide what you want & go for it! After this, the Westy pilgrimage seemed rather tame and we’re currently doing some serious drinking towards a tri annual trip.“

“We visited here on Saturday 8th June 2013 on the advice of the landlord of Kunstemaecker (see reviewer below) Whilst it doesn’t have the sheer numbers of beers that Dranken Geers, Oostakker has, and it is certainly more warehouse in layout and style it was still a great find. Located quite centrally in the village off to the left if you are coming from the south along Molenstraat. Managed to get a couple of Pannepot Reserva 75cl bottles for less than 10 Euros each and a 75cl of Struise Black Damnation No:1 Blackberry and Port Aged for a fair price as well. On the day that we arrived the chap in the warehouse didn’t speak hardly any English and we cannot speak any Dutch so it was fun trying to locate and ask for things, however he was very friendly and extremely helpful as was the lady in the office whose English was much better. We visited again on Saturday 22nd June as they open as at 8am (which is very handy) and picked up a crate of Orval, there were many more staff on, on this occasion and the owner was quite a funny chap. I really like this place and whilst not the selection of places like Hop Duvel or Dranken Geers it has it’s nice and surprises you with the odd gem scattered in and amongst, great prices as well.“

“Great warehouse! Selection was better than similar places that I’ve been too (in my limited experience) including Struise beers, but not as comprehensive as the much more expensive specialty beer stores in the tourist areas. The website is easy to navigate and has a pdf of the available beers, which seemed to be pretty accurate. Last but not least, the customer service was excellent. E-mails made pre-trip were responded to promptly and the staff could not have been more helpful, accommodating, or friendly. Thanks Bruno! The warehouse was accessible via Molenstraat vs. the google map listing of Brouwerijstraat. Will definitely go back.“
