84 /100 Tuckaway Tavern and Butchery (Restaurant) 58 NH-27 Huge place, large parking lot. Entrance on the right is the butcher and grocery, on the left is the restaurant, but they both coalesce into the same place, so you can't go wrong. The bar is massive, square, surrounded by restaurant tables in several rooms. Fairly empty at 11:30 on a Wednesday but it filled to capacity within half an hour. Server put two beer samples down in front of me without my asking, from a small number of beers that regional brewers contract brew for them. One lager and one wheat beer, but when I said I prefer samples she came back with samples of some of those as well. Quite the good taplist, better than the majority of bars in the region; focus is NH and MA. Food was tasty with massive portions. A few hygiene violations behind the bar but they were survivable. Attentive service considering the crowd. Multiple veggie options. Worth a trip from afar. |
70 /100 Cork N Keg Grill (Restaurant) 4 ESSEX DRIVE Restaurant/pub/bowling alley, but all separated. Service is decent. Food is pretty good. Selection is fine, but not great. Not worth making a stop for, but not bad. |
86 /100 Tuckaway Tavern and Butchery (Restaurant) 58 NH-27 Great food, really good selection with dinner and for retail. Some rarities and a lot of good locals. Long line to get in most days. Be ready to wait, unless you choose and odd hour. |
90 /100 Tuckaway Tavern and Butchery (Restaurant) 58 NH-27 This is a great place to go if you are a fan of craft beer and good food. This is a restaurant with hearty helpings, a butcher shop, and a craft beer store all rolled into one. They don’t have a lot of taps but the taps they have are usually brewed especially for them by local breweries. They cellar certain beer so you can also pick from the "vintage" beer menu. All of the meat in their meals is carved or ground right on the premises. The craft beer store is behind the butcher shop and they have a wide array of local, regional, and nationally known craft beer and seem to make an effort to jump on the new arrivals to the state. The bottle prices are reasonable. If you are going for lunch or dinner be prepared to wait in line but it is easier to get in and out of the craft beer store if that is all you are looking for. |
80 /100 Cork N Keg Grill (Restaurant) 4 ESSEX DRIVE Went to have appetizers and watch football--a little annoying (for football) that Sunday afternoons is when they have a live guitarist playing so sound was out. Also made conversation difficult at the bar. But, if you want live music, that’s a plus. Appetizers were good, especially the Memphis Dry Rub wings and BBQ ribs (though buffalo wasn’t bad either) more than the nachos. Decent sized menu and prices seemed pretty fair for good beer--good selection of more mainstream craft brews (e.g., Allagash, Founders, Firestone) with smaller, local brewers on rotating basis (e.g., Deciduous, Tuckerman, Neighborhood). |
90 /100 Tuckaway Tavern and Butchery (Restaurant) 58 NH-27 Nice restaurant with fireplaces and old-timey farm equipment decor. Knowledgeable staff regarding food and drink. Gave samples of beer before taking order and tried to recommend based on food pairing. Pretty good selection of tap and bottled brews. Food was quite good, not just standard fare but interesting and generous portions. Isn’t inexpensive but you get a good amount and good stuff for what you pay for. Depending how much you spend on your meal, you get a coupon that can be cashed in at their butchery which is excellent and also stocks great selection of craft beers. The prices aren’t fantastic but you might be able to find some harder to find beers, especially for the area. One major drawback is that the place is SO popular that there is almost always a huge wait. Advice from wait staff was to come right upon opening on the weekends or Wednesday or Thursday. |
