88 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Bar with a huge selection of Belgian beers. |
76 /100 95 RUE RUBENS Brewpub with their own beers. |
78 /100 95 RUE RUBENS Medium sized taproom with spacious beer garden in the back. Oddly this place has the biggest furniture I've seen to this day. About 15 taps, various styles and good to very good quality of beer. Worth checking out and I wouldn't mind revisiting some day. |
72 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Not a very big place, but it does have a patio outside. About 18 taps and 120 bottles. Almost all the beers on tap were Belgian. Bottle selection is mostly Belgian with some imports. Mostly beers you can get at other places, nothing too exciting really. Looks like this establishment has seen better days, seems a bit rundown, was hoping for a bit more considering the rating. |
74 /100 1030 Café (Bar) AVENUE JAN STOBBAERTS 100 Medium sized place with a patio outside. Was jam packed in the afternoon, very vibrant and lively atmosphere. Seems to be very popular wit the locals. 8 taps and about 30-40 bottles. Mostly craft beer, but nothing to rare, went for De La Senne. Pizza, served from 18-22, was very good. Friendly service. Nice neighborhood bar. |
74 /100 Copain (Bar) AVENUE ROGIER 262 Nice neighborhood bar with wooden interior and patio outside. Plenty of seating outside. About 5 taps and 50 bottles. Couple of lambics, plenty of De la Senne, some usual suspects. Not a beer destination, but certainly a nice neighborhood bar. Worth checking out if you're nearby and want to have a good beer. |
84 /100 JORAN - Cidrothèque (Bar) RUE JACQUES JANSEN 3 Medium sized place with a long room and a patio outside. Quite empty in the early afternoon, but it started to fill up quickly. 9 ciders on tap from Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Luxembourg and France. I'd say about 100 in bottles including couple of them from Antidoot and some ice ciders. There is a corkage fee unfortunately. Friendly and attentive service. I was pleasantly surprised with this establishment, seems like a heaven for cider lovers. |
90 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Located in central Schaerbeek so does require unless if you’re local probably a dedicated visit, luckily these days it can be combined with La Mule which is also why I have been here so much more often ever since La Mule opened up. They have 20 plus taps with a house beer (L’Ermitage), selection of BXL beers including ones you see less often like Jungle, French beers, lots of stuff you don’t see so much more often at more hipster place but all great, great selection and prices, friendly always cool stuff. Fridge with interesting cans, one side of the shop is still the beer store aspect (it was always that big but more of an extra than a focus). Interior is a bit barebones but if the weather is good, the terrace goes to the middle of the road with view to the park or church which is a great view. |
86 /100 JORAN - Cidrothèque (Bar) RUE JACQUES JANSEN 3 The first cidrothèque in Belgium? Or I just haven’t been paying must attention. Anyway you need to come specially for this place since it isn’t anywhere you would causally wind up in Brussels if you don’t live there. 6 + 1 Ciders / Perry’s on tap from Basque, UK & Luxemburg. I tried two and they were great. Service & prices were good. Place looks gorgeous bright white with wood, beautiful, terrace upfront & back (back is mini garden more or less). Solid & interesting varies selection of Ciders & Perry’s for sale to go or consume there (some of it is chilled as well). Including one ice cider (but not a great one) as well as two Antidoot Cider’s and good selection of varieties. Food is limited to specific hours, terrine & cakes lagerly. Lovely. |
90 /100 95 RUE RUBENS Brewery / warehouse look and feel, located in Schaerbeek. Not a huge amount of isolation or anything, they did their best but it still has a warehouse look to it. La Mule founded by a former De La Senne brewer specializes in German beer styles, unicum in Belgium. I have mixed feelings about their canned beers but their draft beers are awesome. Pils was amazing when visiting here as was the Weisse and bar special only was also nice. Their whole draft selection at the time plus one was available. Prices were very good, beer was awesome, service was good, tables etc. were a bit high and there was a brewery dog. They do concerts, events etc. here. Wish there was a way to make it a bit more cozy here but the beer is truly outstanding and at a good price. |
78 /100 Copain (Bar) AVENUE ROGIER 262 Visited on a Tuesday afternoon. Located in a residential area in Schaarbeek so definitely out of the way unless if you’re local but a tram runs near the door. Gorgeous looking venue, lots of brown wood color, bricks, spacious, big bar. Very friendly service. Interesting menu of snacks had bread with red beets puree for 6 euro which was nice. All snacks were 6-to-8 euro range. 5 taps with core range De La Senne, L’Ermitage and a Witloof beer. Not a huge or exotic selection but all good stuff. Beer was a bit pricey but not by much. Overall, very comfy bar with good solid classics and good snacks. |
80 /100 1030 Café (Bar) AVENUE JAN STOBBAERTS 100 Central Schaerbeek so out of the way for most but the locals. Visited on a Tuesday afternoon, lively place, locals but also visitors. Lots of bartenders, quick service, gorgeous spacious bar with nice decoration. Decent prices, better than average for cocktails so those looked tempting, pizza also available as food. They have a house beer Jandrain-Jandrenouille which is cool but the beer was a bit too flat and watery but still cool. Also taps from the likes of De La Senne en De La Source, a few new beers on tap, website is fully up to date. Interesting smallish selection of rotating bottles as well including a Stoemelings and Cantillon collab at okay prices. Definitely a fun and worthwhile lively place. |
76 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 (Visited Oct 2022) Corner bar and beer shop in Shaerbeek, to the northeast of the Gare du Nord railway station. Fairy plain interior with a mixed bag of chairs and tables. Around 20 taps, mainly from small Belgian breweries. Good selection of bottles, including imports. Swift and friendly service. A bit out of the normal beaten track for beer tourists, but well worth a detour. |
80 /100 95 RUE RUBENS Young Brussels microbrewery set up in a historical building called Les Ecuries van de Tram in Schaerbeek, a building which contains former stables – hence the “mule” in the brewery’s name, I guess. Visited for the reception held by Swedish beer connoisseur Jens Skrubbe, who had been introduced into the Orde van de Roerstok earlier that day (the Belgian brewers’ guild, the oldest trade association in the world) – thanks for the invite Jens! The young guys behind this brewery are as enthusiastic and hard-working as they are hospitable and friendly so it did not take long to feel at home here. Very relaxed atmosphere, a vibe comparable to e.g. L’Ermitage, but much less crowded so much more opportunity to talk to the brewer and this staff. The inside is basic brown café style, while there is a patio as well, so drinking outside on a good day is certainly recommended, even if you remain enclosed within the walls of the building. The brewery – unique in Belgium – specializes in German style beers, a deliberate choice, because of their drinkability (or, as the Germans say, ‘Süffigkeit’); this means various Lagers and Weissbiere, sometimes with a bit of a twist to set them apart from the old German traditions. Food is limited to snacks (cheese assortments, dry sausage, a couple of vegetarian alternatives) but the beers are fine and indeed ‘süffig’ enough, the young man running the place is as kind and welcoming as they come and the relaxed atmosphere could make me want to sit here all day – so I think it is safe to say that this is another beery destination in Brussels worth the detour to colourful Schaerbeek (note that Barboteur is not that far away, and both destinations are easily reachable by tram from the Schaerbeek train station). Lovely place, one I will certainly revisit! |
98 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Great beer bar with possibility to buy beers for take-away as well. Nice selection of beers and in the warmer seasons a fabulous terrace (plain and simple german beer tables) but with a smashing view on the Sint-Servaas church and just nearby Parc Josapath.
Super friendly staff pro-actively suggesting some beers based on your preferences. |
86 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Visited again 24/07/2019. Once again, nice taplist, nice bottle selection, nice, people. I love hte great laid-back atmosphere
Visited on April 5th 2019, early in the evening at the day of the Reservoir Dogs TTO. Some nice Belgians were available too, nice Resevoir Dog beers, Nice shop with reasonable prices. Nice people, seem a bit timid (which I don't mind) but friendly and had good knowledge of the beers they sell. Hope to visit again. |
84 /100 RN Express (Restaurant) PLACE PRINCESSE ELISABETH 5 Petite brasserie située juste à coté de Train World. Bonne sélection de bières. |
84 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Nice bar in a part of town we weren’t too familiar with. Got here by bus from the other side of Brussels and it took about 30 minutes. There’s a tram stop just up from here, too. Very handy. Good taplist of modern and traditional. They’d had Fou on tap, just prior to our visit, and I’m sure the barman said it had lasted 2 hours! Friendly staff. Some chairs outside make for a good place to people watch. Good range of bottles to take away, too. Recommended. |
78 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Located directly next to the Schaarbeek Beer Museum, this is a fairly modern beer boutique that has 4 taps and some bottles in the fridge to keep you happy while you browse the shelves of the bottle shop. Good selection of Belgian craft, some international craft, and also some rare Belgian stuff (found Reininge Kriek here for instance). Definitely a nice addition to the northern part of Brussels, and easy to hit both the Museum and Barboteur in one detour (though only if the museum is open) |
78 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Another great beer venue in Brussels, this one more modern styles and breweries generally. Lots of the local new local breweries. The Staff know their beers and a cool place to hang out. And if you time it right a good after stop after the nearby beer miseum. |
88 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Very nice local bar at Schaarbeek. Some rotating taps and an excellent bottle list of the best Belgian craft beer, sorted by style. Nice to sit on the benches outside watching the people. Will visit again when in Schaarbeek. |
78 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Visited with the Antwerp Ratebeer and Untappd crews, cheers! A 25 minute tram ride from city center, or a 10 minute walk through the prostitutes from Gare du Nord. That said, it's in the "nice" part of Schaerbeek. More of a bar than a bottle shop, although the walls are lines with shelves of bottles and there is one cooler. Five taps as well. Friendly owner. One house beer brewed by l'Ermitage. Solid selection, the bookstore reference is a good one because you could spend a long time browsing here. |
88 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Small bar with some tables inside and outside. One wall inside consists of shelves of beers to take away (there are also beers to drink in the fridge). The service is friendly, several locals were there even if it was rather early. Very relaxed atmosphere and cheap prices for take away beer. (If you intend to go there check if the schaerbeek beer museum is open and visit that too.) |
90 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Nice shop with good selection, fair prices, 5 taps and an outstanding service - i spent over an hour talking to the clerk, as it was not busy. Lovely place |
80 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 After hearing about this new beer place in the northern side of Brussels and hearing about a tap take over by some new Brussels micro brewer, I went to visit it last Wednesday. Just a couple of miles from the Nord station, this is a corner pub which profiles itself as a craft beer place in the style of the new "beer boutiques": eclectic selection of bottles from international craft breweries, while at the same time being a real pub where you can sample beers from a rotating tap or a (still modest) selection of bottles. The whole wall is lined with bottles, neatly divided between small Belgian breweries at the left and American, Dutch, French and other foreign breweries at the right. The big downside for me was that it was not yet possible to buy a bottle for consumption on the spot, as is the case in e.g. the Struise shop or Bierboom in Bruges, but the friendly and knowledgeable guy behind the counter assured me that he plans to install refrigerators in the near future to facilitate this. Beers on tap and bottle were interesting and included a French wheat ale from a micro brewery previously unknown to me. Still somewhat of a work in progress I think, but a pleasant enough place to spend a few hours. Does small-scaled beer events regularly so if you are from the Brussels area, an interesting one to follow on Facebook... |
86 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 good place, good beers, good party!! |
86 /100 AVENUE LOUIS BERTRAND, 23 Short walk from St Servais church stop. Heard a lot about the place, and finally paid a visit. Nice neighborhood bar with 5 taps which tend to rotate quickly enough plus additional bottles. Friendly service with a limited finger-food selection. I enjoy the concept which is akin to that of a Birroteca in Italy in the sense that you can drink and browse the shop. One side offers up Belgian selection composed of the better known beers and smaller new breweries while the other focuses on foreign craft. Prices are ok although some bottles prices are a tad higher than similar bottle shops in Brussels. Belgian bottles remain fairly well-priced. A spot I’d gladly visit again but think of it as the classical example of what a small non-InBev owned bar looks like. |
