“First visit, today. Small-to-medium store on the north edge of town with a small but interesting little selection - several Perennial, Jolly Pumpkin, Evil Twin and of course a fair number of Wisconsin micros including New Glarus & Ale Asylum. Props for being the first place in the area I’ve seen that carries Andechser, which is the only thing I bought. Prices seemed competitive with other liquor stores in Rock and Dane counties, though a bit more than Woodman’s and some other large grocery stores/chains. Not worth making a special trip for certainly but not a bad store for a town this size. One significant negative is that many of the bombers and 750s are on regular shelves, partially exposed to sunlight. Less than a mile from downtown and the Vik’ing brewpub.“

“2 years old, not far from Madison, and no reviews yet? This area needs more activity...anyway, I first visited today. Located right downtown on Main St/US 51, with street parking and probably lots nearby, this is a modernized old building with lots of blonde wood and a bar in the shape of a Viking ship - Vikings and Norwegian heritage are a big thing around here. The attempt at a Nordic ambiance is only intermittently successful. A dozen beers on tap, 10 of which were their own (though the Scotch Ale was out). Quality was...variable, let’s say. Liked the cream ale a lot - at least, for a cream ale - Okt and IPA were ok. Then there were the "saisons": these guys have half a dozen saisons listed on the website, with two on today. All over 9% alcohol (!) and, judging by the two I had, not any closer to what a saison is supposed to be like than Dark Lord is to a pale lager. Food - I had a really good burger with terrific fries, my mom had a salmon salad that wasn’t so great - stick to meaty stuff, maybe? Service was very friendly and attentive. Overall I can’t really recommend this with any enthusiasm; it may be the only place with any interesting taps at all in Stoughton, so there’s that, but you’re not far from Madison either. Food Co-Op next door carries a couple dozen local micros.“

“We stopped here from Chicago on the way to my bachelor party camping at nearby Kegonsa. They had a pretty decent WI selection: Oskar Blues, Smuttynose, the New Glarus line-up (including some Enigma still left), Tyrannea (some of the Brewer’s gone wild), and of course your standard craft beers DFH, FFF, Bells, etc. And a few locals. They had a few mixer sixers in a case, Smuttynose, Hebrew, DFH, Avery .... but not a lot. Hopefully in the future they will have more singles. I talked to the owner, he just bought the place a month ago and is hoping to continue to expand selection. He’s a homebrewer himself and is obviously into beer, so I don’t doubt their selection will continue to improve. A fine stop for beer before heading into the wildnerness.“
