66 /100 Bar Antidote (Restaurant) 35 GREEN STREET Vergennes is a charming little town a few miles south of Middlebury. About a block off the main street in a basement of a house one finds the central focus of the town nightlife here at the Antidote. Upon entry is a narrow room with booths; in the back is a larger room with tables amid a central bar that provides antidotes to a hard Vermont day. The majority of taps offer Vermont beers, such as Switchback and Fiddlehead. I have had a can (or two) of Heady Topper on occasion. Include to this mix, friendly service, excellent food and some live music and you have a go-to venue when in the Green Mountain State.
BTW: the serene rive you cross on the way into town is the Otter Creek, which provides the name of another fine brewery.

38 /100 33 GREEN STREET This place served my tasting flight in the soapiest glasses I have ever drank from. In addition to that, i couldn't smell the beers because of the wood pizza oven. Lastly, they had a Jack Johnson cover of that bullshit Pina Colada song playing. The soapy glasses are a huge provlem. They only had 4 beers on tap. |
88 /100 Bar Antidote (Restaurant) 35 GREEN STREET Tolle Bar, zwar etwas dunkel aber sehr große Auswahl lokaler und überregionaler Bier, sehr sehr leckeres Essen. Absolut zu empfehlen! |
80 /100 11 MAIN STREET This rating feels premature since their official grand opening is a week away but I'm a big fan of their cider and am excited to see they have a taproom. This location will also be where they do their barrel aging as well as some special one-offs. It's located in an old mill. They're were still painting a mural that will be outside of their entrance. They only had one cider on draft but they had 6-7 others available to sample. One of the owners was behind the bar and he was very friendly and personable. It sounds like they have
Big plans like their collaboration with Momofuku which is really exciting. It will be fun to check them out again in year or so once they're truly up and running since they do so much fantastic cider. |
60 /100 33 GREEN STREET Located just down the road from Shacksbury there's street parking available. Kind of a rustic feel down to farm tools as tap handles. They only had three beers on tap and they weren't particularly memorable. The food was solid but it's not exactly a destination place. |
84 /100 33 GREEN STREET This is a new brewery, located upstairs from Bar Antidote, where their beer is on tap. It is a low key, somewhat rustic, place with several really decent beers brewed on site. Great pizza and a warm and friendly staff makes this a place to hang out until Bar Antidote opens
Update-2/26/20: They now brew their beers on site. |
62 /100 Park Squeeze Restaurant (Bar) 161 MAIN STREET Bar/brewpub food type fare, which is actually pretty good. Pretty clean little place along Main Street. Beers on tap I only have seen are Vermont beers, only bottled stuff is some BMC. Around St Paddy’s Day, they keep Guinness on draught. It’s worth a shot, but nothing to really go bonkers about as far as beer destinations. |
64 /100 The Red Mill Restaurant at Basin Harbor Yacht Club (Restaurant) 4800 BASIN HARBOR ROAD Upscale sort of restaurant catering to the Basin Harbor Yacht Club. Food is pretty good, but not cheap. Drop In Brewing Company does a specific beer here on tap called Basin Harbor Red Chair ale (amber ale) which I also had bottled as well elsewhere. If you’re in the Vergennes area and don’t mind not necessarily dressing up but not going in looking like something the cat dragged in, it’s not a bad place to check out, especially if you’re at the Yacht club. All you golfers out there, I think there’s some golf place close by. |
80 /100 33 GREEN STREET What a great little place. Located above the Bar Antidote, this is a great little brewery with lots going for it. Late 19th century house with a large renovated eating area, mixing the old with the new. Very solid beer offerings, with 2 guest taps. Sampler are 2$for a 4on pour, or flight of 4$ for 4 samples. The pizza is excellent, do go for the 12" for leftover. Price are quite good. Worth the detour. |
68 /100 Vergennes Wine and Beverage (Beer Store) 211 MAIN STREET Stopped in as I was in the area for business.
Though very clean and serviceable, it’s more of a wine store. Beer leaves a bit to be desired. Its got all of the normal local offerings ie, Switchback, Von Trapp, Long Trail, Rock Art, Queen City, Zero Gravity (canned stuff) and Otter Creek with Dogfish Head, Stone, Victory, Oskar Blues, Unibroue, Lagunitas balancing it all out. Value seemed really good. I got my beers for less than $4, so that was a plus. There is a decent "singles" looking section. After visiting the other store, I was at before this, I’m thinking Vergennes is a bit of wasteland, so final assessment for the area, is go to Middlebury or just make the drive up to at least Shelburne if you’re looking for quantity and better quality - more "local" flavors. |
60 /100 Vergennes Redemption Center (Beer Store) 15 MAIN STREET In the Vergennes area, and drove by this place. Decided to check it out. Mmmm...the aroma as soon as I opened the door, damn, smelled like fresh baked bread. The deli was obviously right around the corner. Everything is well lit and very clean. I didn’t have any food. The selection, eh, well, it reminded me of a gasoline station, so, yeah, it left a bit to be desired - other than the good offerings from some bigger breweries like Stone, Dogfish Head, Victory and Sam Adams. Normal local offerings - Switchback, Otter Creek, Long Trail, Rock Art and Von Trapp. Not bad, just nothing to go back to. |
72 /100 Bar Antidote (Restaurant) 35 GREEN STREET Nice little basement eatery and bar. Seperate dining room/ bar area/patio. A little dark for my liking, but the foor and service are always great and the tap list is respecteble. |
74 /100 Vergennes Wine and Beverage (Beer Store) 211 MAIN STREET I’m rating the beer part of the store only.
It’s a decent store with a pretty good craft selection given the small store size. Bottles on the shelves were all new and the owner knew his beer VERY well. |
74 /100 Vergennes Wine and Beverage (Beer Store) 211 MAIN STREET ambience? its a store. service is great, though, and they will special-order anything you can ask for. more a wine & liquor store than for beer, but has a decent beer selection as well. |
76 /100 Bar Antidote (Restaurant) 35 GREEN STREET Great beer selection, amazing food, absolutely the best bar / restaurant in Addison county VT. |
