“Decent store with the mix a 6 offering. Seemed to lean a bit more "BMC" in a lot of their offerings, but still seeing Grey Sail which is always a plus. Pretty friendly staff too. Easy to take kids in too.“

“Not only a great selection of brews but a good food selection as well. Big place with a few different rooms that are completely different from each other. Something for everyone.“

“Dinner spot on 7/3/13. Got there around 5-ish and got a seat right away. By the time we left, the line was well out the door. Huge place with a vast pub food menu and the chicken parmesan calzone was tasty. Decent beer selection with flights of 4 as an option. License plate style signs on the table reading "Got Beer" and "Need Beer" made it easy. Overall a good dinner spot.“

“Stopped in to browse around and was pleasantly surprised to find a good selection of regional singles. Lots of locals and limited releases. They still had one bottle of Newport Storm ’03. Some interesting imports (which I’m going back for).

Update. May 2013. Beware of higher than average prices. Singles of any kind (bombers and 750s included) are going to be very expensive, unless you mix a six. A lot of the singles on the singles wall are dead old. However, the staff is very accommodating and they do get some very nice beers in here from time to time.“

“Theres a TV in there and everything you need to make a quick trip to the store, but no beer hunting to really be done here“

“Decent food and decent price but the value was better before the re-did the building and added the bar. Some decent brews on tap, Long Trail, Peak and Allagash for example so if you wanna have a decent dinner and decent beer its a good spot“

“This place has really let go of its beer selection. There’s not really much worth coming here for anymore.

I was surprised with Sweeney’s. The selection isn’t huge, but it’s rather deep. They had three of the Harpoon Leviathan series, the most recent 100 Barrel, the Newport Storm ’08, along with a cursory selection of some half-decent imports. Good six packs of regionals. It isn’t as good as Wakefield Liquors, but it’s worth of a stop by and had some different things.“

“I’ve been going to Phil’s diner now for a few years for breakfast and the occasional other meal, mostly because of location and lack of other options. Recently, they added an upstairs with a more modern menu and, for this neck of the woods, a decent list of craft beers at fair prices. It was nice to have an alternative to Mew’s, especially with an outdoor patio and better prices. We had some waitstaff problems on a busy night, but I can’t imagine that it’s a persistent issue. I happily slurped a couple cans of Gray Sail here for $4.50 a pop. They also offered a Mix a Six of craft brews in a bucket of ice for $25, which isn’t bad for a bar. Certainly not a big tap list destination, but a good place to be able to enjoy a craft brew, a decent meal, and sit outdoors in a part of the state that is a little lacking in respectable craft brew serving establishments.“

“69 Beers! A lot of cool good stuff on tap at a decent value, menu is consistently changing. Not out of this world but maybe the best restaurants with bar in Wakefield“

“Decent store, mix a 6 and some decent bomber selections. Pretty run of the mill and being run over by more of the major brands. Bud, Sam Summer and Stella all available for that mix a 6.“

“This is one of the local bars I frequent in RI frequently, though I do live 40 minutes away. They have what 69 (or something) beers on tap. They have quite a few regional brews and this is a very good place to introduce yourself to a variety of different beers. To the purist this is no Trinity or Union Station Brewhouse, but a notch below microbrew. The food is fabulous pub grub with brick oven pizza. They serve one of the best burgers in RI IMHO.“

“This is a great place to bring people, but not to go regularly if you’re looking to try the latest beers. They have a large selection, with some nice choices, but the list hardly ever changes and it can get a little frustrating for those trying to try something different.“

“While some may say this place has the "best beer selection in Rhode Island," it does not. It has a "largest beer selection in Rhode Island." There’s a difference. The selections are mostly regional craft beer, but nothing special. Few if any small batch beers, no casks, and nothing that I couldn’t find elsewhere. Avoid on weekends during the school year or risk being mobbed by URI students. The food is reasonably good, and the sampler rack gives you an opportunity to have a few regional beers that might be new to you if you’re a visitor. But in my opinion, I’d rather have the choice of 10 great beers than 69 mediocre beers.“

“Proper RI pub. 69 draught brews available and a great menu backed-up with a solid staff of professionals. Superb representation of beers, mainly local (new england), respectable regional, and a fairly nice international offering. I make it a priority with each visit to little Rhody. Good whiskey selection as well. Prost!“

“Arrived in Wakefield thirsty. Rambling place with a lot of beers on tap. Amusing and interesting bar area with various dining booths and tables. Dollar bills all over the tap room with a real dead tree left in the main dining area.? Plenty of brews on tap with regional, locals, a decent selection. Food was good and service was great. This must be a hopping place in summer so glad we came in the off season. Worth a visit. Liked the beauty in the eye of the beer holder shirt.. nice!“

“I was excited to come to Mews Tavern & Celtic Bar, as it was only about 3.5 miles from the house we rented. The place is easy to find on Main street. The narrow drive way opens to a spacious parking lot. The place is a browns wood tile old stables. The bar on the second floor is slanted so they could wash out the horse manure. Probably not some thing they advertize as one of the loacl Fisherman mentioned it to me. My father-in-law and I were one of the first people there at 12:00. We sat in the down stairs bar. The upstairs is a Celtic Bar. 69 Taps and not much I have never had. I started with the Brooklyn Sorachi Ace Saison. It seems all Beers are served in American Pint glasses. The food was average bar fare. The staff was friendly and courteous (especially after I had to perform the Heimlich maneuver on my father-in-law, no lie). I tried a sampler rack of 4, which turn out are 7 oz glasses. The Skinny glasses that winden towards the top that old guys drink Schlitz out of. The 7 oz. pour seemed like a great idea but I hate the glass and rack. The New England beers I tried were average at best except for the Peak Organic IPA. This like some other pseudo beer bars where the bar manager who picks these is over influenced by the beer reps instead of his or her own passion for the beer. Still a descent place that I would go to again.“

“This came across as an average, dark, dank, cold, sports bar. They serve all their beers in iced shaker pints that taste like the freezer! Gross. Too many TVs. Unfortunately, this is another example of a sports bar brutalizing craft beer. The bartender was nice, but I’m cold, so I have to leave. Updated. I think I hate this place even more, because it’s the only beer bar in a reasonable distance that serves good beer, but it’s a completely wretched place. Beers are overpriced, the crowd is moronic, the waitstaff difficult, and the ambiance detestable. Ugh.“

“The Mews is an institution. Just a fun, fun place. When you come here, make a night of it. It’s huge, with a restaurant, a bar, and a martini bar upstairs. 69 beers on tap, a lot of it local, but they have stuff from Dogfish Head, Grimbergen, Stone, and Rogue, and they change their taps often. You can get a reasonaly priced sampler of four 7 oz. beers.“

“Nice place that has a wide selection of New England seasonals, and a good selection of micros. Not too many Belgian or German brews, but it was fine with me. Staff was attentive and seemed educated in fine beer. Kind of small, but worth a stop if your in the area.“

“I only work 15 minutes down the road from this place, so I decided to check it out yesterday. Pretty cool place if I do say so. It was pretty packed when I got there (3 pm on Sunday night). The tavern is pretty nice, with a seprate dining room, and a wine and martini bar in the upstairs. The service was good, and the bartender seemed to know some about the brews they served. The beer selection was pretty impressive (69 drafts) for a small tavern. They recently got Arrogant Bastard and some Dogfish Head seasonals. The food was great. I had a pizza from their brick oven. Overall a pretty cool place to drink a few beers.“

“best place i have found in ri. by far. the inside is pretty cool with a real tree that has been cut to fit exactly floor to ceiling. the service was good but not great but the food more than made up for it. great menu with a wide selection and can we say beer? 69 taps a few were fillers but for the most part pretty good stuff. had a sampler for 9$ with four 7oz. samples, not too bad.“

“great selection of beers that you can buy singles of. table in front features new beers that are usually interesting. most of the time they have the full selection of vintage newport storm and the people who work there are helpful. the 10% discount on mixed sixers is great.“

“Great selection of 22oz and cork finished 750s. Interesting Belgian beers included De Ranke, Gouden Carolus, and Houblon Chouffe. New beer table featured Thirsty Dog Robust Porter and Imperial Stout from Maryland and Pennichuck from NH. Staff was friendly and courteous and didn’t bother me when I told them I was browsing. When I’m in the southern half of Rhode Island, it is definately my beer store of choice.“

“Best bar in an area overrun with crappy budweiser-pushing college bars. Nice selection of brews, lots of local New England stuff, and excellent food for a pub (pizza, burgers, and onion rings are all fantastic). Well worth a visit but can get crowded on the weekends or in the summer.“

“This is my favorite local store. Nice selection of singles, friendly staff that more or less know their stuff. I buy most of my beer here so I’m a little biased, but it’s one of the few places in the area (college town) where you can find interesting brews.“

“Best beer selection in RI. Great old colonial building with a confusing, but enjoyable setup, bars at all ends of the place. Parking is OK except on the weekends, where you may have to improvise (and deal with annoying college kids). The food is exceptional for a pub, I love their burgers and sandwiches. Service adequate, though most of the waittresses are college students from URI, so don’t expect many beer recommendations. Great whiskey and martini menu’s also. Thumbs up.“

“The only store I had time to visit. A nice wall of singles. Managed to buy a case of local singles that I haven’t had. A little dissapointed that the rows of vintage Newport Storms were all empty, but a nice place to stop for out of towners like me!“

“This place offers a nice beer selection albeit similar to many of the other bottle shops in the state. What sets this one apart is that they tend to focus more on local and regional beers which is what makes them a great place to stop and stock up.“

“A fun place with lots of taps and ambiance. Most of the beers on draught were the typical larger micros, but they also had some locals and regionals that were interesting enough to keep me coming back for more. Definietly one of the more interesting places in this part of the state.“

“I have been to the Mew’s on SEVERAL occassions and rarely have I been disappointed. Though certain days are packed and parking is tough has been worth it. With 69 beers on tap you would expect an occasional stale beer, but I never have. They rotate their selection about every 4 - 6 weeks keeping the standards on tap and adding seasonals and new to the area brews. Food here is pub grub with great burgers. If you go in the summer plan on waiting upwards to 1 1/2 hours for a table. But you can always bide your time at the bar drinking. CHEERS.“

“Excellent selection of northeastern beers -- I had no trouble filling up a couple of 6-packs worth of new beers to try. Also have vintages of Newport Storm -- I was able to pick up the 03, which I have never tried. Friendly and with plenty of space. Not much in the way of foreign beers, but to me the locals more than made up for it.“

“Wow, I couldnt beleive how busy this place was. I just stopped in for a beer, and didnt have any food. They have 69 taps, unfortunatley 5 or so are ciders and NA beers. Small, smokey place with a pretty cool atmosphere with tons of dollar bills on the ceiling. I had had most of the brews on tap. The Magic hat Mew’s Brew 69 is worth a try. PARKING IS A BITCH.“

“This is the only place in southern RI to go for good beer. They have a nice wall of singles to keep me occupied, and they get new stuff in fairly often. A majority of my ratings were purchased here, so look at them for an idea of the selection.“

“The Mews is the best bar in South County, but that's not really saying much. 69 micros is somewhat misleading; they include Rolling Rock and some other crap among these. Good thing: the Happy Hour buffet kicks ass!“

“69 taps, and several of them are darned good. Several regional micros are available (including several Magic Hat), and the last time I was there, they had a house beer brewed by Magic Hat. Food is solid pub fare. Service is pretty good -- a cute thing they have is license plates at each table -- one says "Have Beer," and when you're out, you flip to the one that says "Need Beer."“
