Rehill’s Of Jesmond (Grocery Store)
245-249 JESMOND ROAD
“Booze shop on a corner of Jesmond which has long been a mecca for drink afficionardos. Has a very decent collection of beers including rare US imports and lots of interesting scandi stuff as well as a big Belgian and local beer section. Decent amount stocked in fridges. Went in today and the had Other Half and bunch of new breweries from NY. Plus all the current hits like Deya, Newbarns, Wylam etc. Also has a fantastic collection of whiskies, gins, wine etc. If you know your stuff you might find a bottle of something at a decent price that has sold out somewhere else.“

“A superb shop, just off the main coast road, between Newcastle and Tynemouth, A wander through to the back of the store reveals a large room dedicated to great beer and wine and now there's a huge range of gin, whiskey and rum too. Fantastic range of UK bottled beers, an impressive number of US micro beers, plus a fine range from Europe and around the globe. An absolute treat and the best in the area by a long way. Update, Aug 2018 - there's now 4 taps on the main counter of the shop, dispensing some great beer into either your own containers or ones that can be purchased in the shop. Cloudwater, Almasty, De Molen on my visit“

“As per previous reviews this is a convenience store. Then there's a whole area down around the back with loads of local plus UK wide beers. And there are international choices too. And since it's a convenience store, pricing seems decent too. Worth a visit if vaguely in the area.“

“Best bottle shop I’ve been to in the UK! Fantastic selection of world beers at very reasonable prices and the staff are very knowledgeable too. Great gin/whisky selection too if you want some of those. Some nice food in the deli too.“

“Quite simply one of the best beer shops in the country. There is a huge selection to choose from ranging from local real ales, craft beers from the best brewers in this country, Europe and the US, and traditional German, Belgian and Czech beers. There are plenty of rarities, some of which can be expensive, but the prices are very reasonable for what you’re getting. The staff are helpful and if you happen to catch the owner, he’s very knowledgeable. My only slight gripe is that I’ve bought a few bottle that have turned out to be OOD when I got them home. Other than that, this is beer geek paradise.“

“A corner shop with a difference. A truly superb range of bottled beers can be found at the back of this shop. The prices are very reasonable too. It’s a bit of a trek from the centre of Newcastle but well worth the effort.“

“Just the best place in the region to find out of the ordinary beers from far and wide. Out of the city centre, but worth the trip, and easily reached by bus or metro. Pricey, but not for what they deliver, and they do have offers.“

“A great selection of English beers, with plenty from Belgium and Germany too. The stock changes all the time and there have been beers from Cuba and Tanzania before. Well priced too.“

“This shop is something of an upmarket version of the traditional ’corner shop’. Through the back there is a reasonable sized wine/beer cellar. The selection is not huge, I’d guess 100-150 beers, but what they have is generally good. On my visit there was Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, St Bernardus, various decent belgians, several german/czech lagers, a few american and canadian beers (including stone and dogfish head), ciders and a selection of lager type beers from around the world. Reasonable collection of british ales, a lot of samuel smiths.“

Bruges Cafe (Restaurant)
36 BRENTWOOD AVENUE, JESMOND
“Small cafe restaurant, only around 20 seats. Atmosphere is pleasant laid back and the service is very friendly. Food is decent, short belgian inspired menu, with the obligatory Moules Frites and Steak Frites, plus a few beer-based sauces including Maredsous and Duvel. Beer choice is very good, 30+ bottled beers plus 4-5 on top including at least 4-5 seasonal beers. Usually have Rocheforts, Orval and St Bernardus available. Not many true rarities but you can’t expect that in the north of england! Beers are served well, generally in the right glass and nicely chilled but not ice cold. All in all a nice place for a pleasant meal and a few good beers.“
