“Brewery tap with the possibility to take away beer at the other side of the road, where the brewery is located. Late morning visit, only elderly locals present. Slow service by two women who preferred talking to eachother in spite of serving a customer. But they were friendly enough. Nice little patio.“

“Prawdziwe autentyczne miejsce oddalone 30 min jazdy od Bambergu. Piękny ogród z fantastyczną obsługą. Ich Mönchsambacher Lagerbier to klasa sama w sobie.“

“A nice old school place with a more modern outside area. The beer is well-known, and it was in good condition when we were there. Nice people, amazing bread. Highly recommended.“

“A typical German bier stube. We got there early before lunch and there were just a few locals there at that time. The visit was worth the time as the beer was really good. At that time just 2 kinds of beer but well brewed and very enyoable.“

“Visited 7. April. We were welcomed with a gravity barrel Lagerbier. This beer was one of the highlights of the weekend. Good service from the family at the gaststätte. We also sat outside. Rural and beautiful brewery.“

“On the road from Burgebrach to Ampferbach, just beneath the "hilltop", are located two Kellers. First, closer to the road, comes the "Max-Keller" (contract-brewed beers from Mönchsambach). A bit larger and shadier is the beautiful "Herrmann-Keller" with an ancient wooden skittle-alley . Kellerbier from the wooden barrel and bottled Weizen are available. Worth a Little journey...“

“Visited on 23th April ... I’ve been here 3/4 times already and I always found their beer just in the average for the area but this time it was different and it has been 1 of the best beer of our holiday .. The place in all our visits through the years was always empty in the afternoon so the ambience it’s a bit " sad " with many pictures on the wall of the people of the village died in the wars ..“

“Weizen & Keller. Both quite good. During warm season operations move to biergarten located about 1-2 km away - placed on a hill among trees with very nice atmosphere & views.“

“In August 2014 the gravity barrel Lagerbier was one of the highlights of the week, juicy and bright and hoppy. A return visit on a Saturday afternoon in November 2014 found the Lagerbier in terrible shape, nothing whatsoever like the splendid barrel we had before. I mentioned this to Stephan and he pulled some to taste and agreed, said it was likely a late fill from the tank, biggest impression of autolyzed yeast I’ve ever experienced! Still he served it and folks drank it, which isn’t a big deal for most, but imagine someone walking in for a first try and finding such a "legendary" beer in awful shape. That’s how it goes in Franconia, of course.

The Export from keg was as fine as always, and the Weihnachtsbock we tasted from the tank was superb at 8 weeks.

I left with bottles of the Lagerbier filled a few days before and found the hop character dull, and it contained some unpleasant DMS. Inconsistency is the name of the game, no different in Franconia than anywhere else, but some beers and breweries seem more inconsistent than others. Cross your fingers next visit that you find the barrel bright and hoppy.“

“Quiet little place in a very rural area like most good lagerbier spots. Service was very courteous and locals that where there were friendly. We ordered a lagerbier each and sat outside. Beautiful authentic place. A nice way to start our trip in Franconia.“

“First stop on the Franconian portion of our trip. Beautiful scenery, quaint little town as is typical in the area. There is a brewery and restaurant, with a large garden space in between where you can sit and enjoy your beers. We were heartily welcomed, and although our host did not speak any English, she was very happy to serve us some lagerbier from the cask that was fresh and delicious. The cost was on par for the area, 2 euros a half liter. Several locals were driving by to pick up crates and we inquired if it was possible to buy some bottles to go to which they said no problem, even for singles. Very pleasant experience, maybe a bit removed from a lot of the places in the region but easy to get to by car.“

“Visited a couple of times with my parents. Very cosy village brauhaus, with the brewery and a beershop close by. Parking just outside the door. Friendly staff, cosy deco and the beers are served in good condition. This place seems very local, but still I felt very welcome as a stranger :-) Small beergarden just outside the brauhaus. Not sure if they do food.“

“On the south side of the road from Burgebrach just before Ampferbach. Large, terraced, tree-covered grounds. It began to storm as we arrived, so we sat at a table huddled under the long roof. Kellerbier from daft was so-so, somewhat simple, a bit watery. Weizen from bottle quite good. From the ratings, the Kellerbier seems to be well-liked, so perhaps this one is due a return visit some day.“

“Small gasthof with a pils from draft and a weizen in bottle. Picnic benches out front along the main road through town. The pils was basic and suffered from some minor flaws but the texture and carbonation was there and it was crisp and refreshing to gulp. Didn’t try the weizen as we had to get out of town before the thunderstorm arrived.“

“Same experience as Ernest below. Dirty, dingy, cluttered feeling. Kellerbier was in poor shape, bottled dunkel Marzen was better but nothing to make me want to drink more form this brewery. Can’t recommend that it’s worth visiting.“

“A rather rednecky / commercial vibe here...lots of advertising for ice cream / candy, dirty/neglected grounds (e.g. filthy stale water in a fountain/birdbath as you reach the top of the steps, random junk/garbage laying around), and poor quality beers (but a pretty good selection of styles, including a newly available maibock). I was kind of hungry when we got here, but sorta glad I didn’t try the food. Nice shady spot that could be a lot nicer if they just put some work into cleaning up the place, but yeah...kinda slummy. Wouldn’t return.“

“In my opinion one of the most true , fair, friendly and typical brewpub in Bavaria .. Small and cosy we cane in around 4 o’clock and the place was packed of old people that looked at us like they were looking at some aliens .. But in a funny way and they were happy to see such young people in there (I’m 36) ... They had an lagerbier from the woodbarrell that was simply fantastic one in my personal top 3 of the 4days trip in bamberg and around ... I did not get any food but some guest was eating some wuster that looked very good .. The other beer was on tap I think and was the export .. We did not tried it because the lager was too good fir changing ... A great place I think under rated till now ...we even enjoyed a little typical Bavarian gig with the all the people singing in local dialect ..!!!“

“Situated on the road from Burgebrach to Ampferbach. The most relaxing place to have a summer time beer iin the Steigerwald region (west of Bamberg). Beer comes from wooden casks. Pick the right place to watch the sun going down.“

“Traditional pub in the "centre" of Ampferbach with a very popular "Keller" on a little hill at the the southern edge of this village. Their - sometimes - very odd beers are brewed in Mönchsambach.“

“Stopped for a late lunch on my way to Elsendorf. The friendly brewer sold me his beers and provided me with a great Brotzeit. Cheap and friendly place, with enough room to sit on wooden benches under trees. But there is also a small room, heated with firewood. Amazingly cheap and good beer.“

“The brewery itself is just a simple, standard place but the keller is great, large with self-serve drinks.“

“Great keller is up the hill from the brewery in town. Can’t comment on the Gasthof, which is on the main cobblestoned street in the center of a pleasant town. The keller is charming and special, up the hill out of the old town. They have herbs and tomatoes growing in pots, plenty of shade trees, and a pagan style of decor. Feels like visiting friends in their summer cabin in the woods. The small grotto of covered tables and indoor spaces are more than welcome for the inclement weather that tends to sweep over Franconia. Large playground off to the side and the food looks to reflect children’s tastes. We didn’t eat there but they have pizza, french fries, that sort of thing. It’s all self-serve and friendly. They serve the beer from gravity cask. Very pleasant place!“

“Small ordinary guesthouse/brewpub on the side of the road in the village. A few tables out front of the stubl/guesthouse that face the brewery proper offer a decent place to sit. Self-serve, unassuming, and casual. Had the pils and weizen on draft when we were there.“

“A quite faceless, modern village tavern on the road to Lisberg. The good Herrmann beers are worth a visit, no doubt, but the main attraction of Ampferbach are the two Felsenkeller on the road to Burgebrach !“

“Typical, traditional franconian Bierkeller on the edge of Burgebrach. Shady chestnut-trees, wooden benches, self-service and Schwanen Kellerbier, which is only served here, on this Keller. O.K., not a must, but surely worth a visit........“

“Greater, traditional Gasthof in the center of town, not much has been changed here since the 1920’s....... In summer the pub is only open on sundays, because the family runs also the Schwanenkeller on the edge of town.“

“Simple village pub in a forgotten, tiny franconian village; pleasant shady patio in front of the old pub. The brewery is on the second side of the village lane.“

“Although there was no patio, we were allowed to sit outside and have our beer there. Lovely view at the lively beer trade. Loads of locals picked up their crates and small barrels for home use. A good sign and not surprisingly, the beer is quite OK.“
