“We visited here Sunday 26th July 2021 having cycled from Holzkirchen Bahnhof. I think that others have already suggested closer alternatives if travelling via public transport, however if you have a bike then it is only 11-12km or 35-40 minutes from Holzkirchen Bahnhof and almost all of this is cycle-friendly, so either on a cycle path or super quiet small country roads with little or no traffic. There are however a couple of small hills to tackle, one on the way back in particular which is about 3km away from the Kloster is what I would term as a 'short, sharp, shock as it is quite steep really quickly, however it is short and so a nice little workout. The Kloster is I guess slightly elevated as looking south you have really good views of the mountains, even today on a very cloudy and occasional showers type of day it was a decent panorama. It was busy, we had to wait 8-10 minutes before a seat became available. The deck area is dwarfed by a huge tree (chestnut I think?) and around the outside are very sturdy industrial type parasols to provide heat and rain protection. Beer choice is good, they have most of their regular beers available on tap or in a bottle, they have a daily update menu and I could see that the Aegidius-Trunk was available which was great as I can see that this seems to be a hard beer to track down, it is usually available from August but obviously a little earlier this year. The Export Dunkel was very nice and slightly edged it over the Aegidius-Trunk, but both were very nice. Regarding the place, mmhh... I don't know, staff very friendly, set up very professional, however it pains me to say this but most of these type of places that are monastery setup type venues i.e. Weltenburger, Westvleteren, Andechs and here, plus others that I have forgotten, they all seem quite brash about the fact that the prime intentions is to part you from your money, it just seems like a production line of 'go in-get your money - get out, repeat'. Maybe I am being a bit harsh but that is how I feel. That said on a really sunny day with a seat at the edge with those views, well it would be marvellous I am sure, and like I said the beers were great.“

“We went here by car on a very scenic route. This is the sort of place that makes me thankful to other Ratebeerians, because I would never have found it if it wasn’t for the places section on RB. The beers were very good and the view top class. We did not eat but I had a couple of beers from tap and bought the remaining beers to go. They had around 10 different beers on the menu at my visit, bot not all were on and some were tap only. Efficient service.“

“The slightly more secret cloister-brewery you can go to as a short day-trip from Munich: Take the BOB to Schaftlach and walk about an hour over the mostly flat fields to Reutberg. Can be combined with a trip to Hoppe in Waakirchen.“

“Visited on a sunny spring Sunday. A beautiful, remotely located beer garden which is quite busy. Great view, great beer, good food. The service is nice, fast, and efficient. Definitely a spot overlooked by the beer community, one that I can only recommend, and not harder to get to than Kloster Andechs (which is more touristy).“

“A tap with a view! Perched on a south-facing ridge, it offers a panoramic sweep on the northern edge of the Alps; typical dark-panelled tap-room, good selection of great beers - much better than the usual Munich Hell. Real good meals, everything is freshly prepared and far better than the fodder You can get in Your "typical bavarian Gasthaus"; friendly and quick service. Take the train from Munich to Schaftlach, from the railway station it is just a 90 minutes walk to the monastery…“
