“Nice eatery/bar in an old Tooheys grain store in Newcastle East. Great selection of beers, good but typical 'U.S.' style food (wings, burgers, etc.) Pacman/Galaga machine. Good music. We were there early Friday afternoon and it started to get a bit busy so might be pumping on a weekend night. Good place (now has it's own tram stop!).“

“Excellent bar with a solid selection of beers (although a little bit dear). The meals are very high quality and the service is excellent. Highly recommended.“

“Rotating craft taps. a couple dedicated to Euro taps so will see some odd stuff on tap. De Molen and other Euro breweries. Strong whisky selection and good menu. Usually good craft on but one of the few that has taps dedicated to non OZ beers are a plus.“

“In Lambton, not too far from Hunter Stadium. Not the best place for summer buying as basically a tin shed. Then again freeze in winter. Mostly Australian beers with a decent measure of US and NZ beers. Some old ticks worth getting there. Big cool room. Pricing is a little cheaper than Sydney so good value, friendly staff. One of the best 3 shops in Newcastle“

“Awesome bar with a great tap selection. They normally do not do paddles after 4pm (I think it was?), but they waved the rule for me when I inquired. $18 for a paddle of 4 - these prices are starting to seem normal. Service is good. Interior is fairly dark and half-traditional English and half-modern. Highly recommended when in Newcastle.“

“Pretty expansive bottle selection logically organized by country and brewery. Prices are a tad cheaper than in Sydney. Service is hands off but friendly and helpful if needed. A little out of the way from Newcaste city centre, but worth a trip.“

“Really expansive and nicely set up place with a modern feel, with the brewing facilities right next to the large seating area. We arrived around 6pm on a Tuesday and the place was dead - we were the only ones here. However, as we were leaving an hour later, a few more groups came in. 16 beers on tap all available in custom paddles for the outrageous price of $18 for 4. Service is very friendly and hospitable. Beer itself was quite decent, with a few standouts. Definitely a recommended stop when in or near Newcastle.“

“Done know if a drive through bottle shop has any ambiance. Decent enough. Good service by staff pretty knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Decent selection. Good variation of Australia, US, and NZ. Not much in the way of Europe though. needs more fridges though and a lot of grey imported beers. Prices more reasonable than Sydney. Go figure. Worth hitting as some off the wall stuff is there.“

“Really nice venue in Newcastle East. Good warm feel to the place. Been in on several times when nearly empty so will say the service has been good. US style food and pretty good pizzas. . Good pricing and some really good events. Best venue in Newcastle. Best place for craft in NSW. Also has one of the better bourbon lists that any crafty venue will have“

“Excellent bottle shop and hotel (pub). It’s straight up one of the best selections that I have seen on the Eastern Seaboard. The range of Oz micros is huge but then so is the international shelves to be fair. The bulk of the stock is kept chilled in fridges. There’s eight taps for growler fills. Next door, the bar has ten or so taps of interesting beers thrown in with a couple of swill handles. Very enthusiastic staff, unsurprisingly with that much great beer surrounding them on this block of land. Not much more I can add, very impressive and without doubt one of the top beer places in the country.“

“The brewpub has been in business for a few months now. Head brewer Shawn has come from Murray’s and brings with him a similar array of beers with new world hoppy pales, Belgian-style and stouts on the menu. The selection runs at twelve with tasting paddles available. The venue felt a little dark and stuffy on a warm day, although I’m sure this wouldn’t be an issue during the evening with sufficient lighting. The brewhouse is open planned adjacent to the bar and dining area. The food is American fare. Pleasant bar staff.“

“A rejuvenated warehouse space in Newcastle East. An impressive beer selection warrants the top pick for a beer in town, with many local state offerings. The friendly bartender was happy to make recommendations and had good knowledge. Jovial crowd with live music playing on a Saturday afternoon. Sufficient seating. Pub grub menu available. It’s well worth a look here.“

“An excellent range of delicious beers and the taps are regularly rotated with the more popular beers such as Hop Hog usually available when you visit. This place usually has a decent crowd present and is a mix of older kents with a few tables of younger hipster types wearing engineer caps and playing Boggle. When I first visited a couple of years ago the food was fantastic. They had a really solid selection of pub grub at a fair price. They have since moved onto some sort of limited German Beer Hall menu consisting of enormous servings of meat and not much else. I love meat but I don’t always want my meat served with a side of additional meat. The decor is pleasing and my only criticism is limited outdoor seating and the ubiquitous and annoying large screen tellys on the wall. I go to the pub to chat and make merry with my friends, not be distracted by a TV screen in my vision the whole time. The service has always been excellent with smiling staff always able to tell you about the different beers available. If I want to drink good beer in Newcastle, this place is my first choice.“

“I visited this place twice when living in Cooks Hill. It has 16 taps and a respectable selection of beers, if a little pricey for craft beers. The place is poorly laid out and the decor looks cheap and nasty. I’ve eaten there twice and both times been very disappointed with the food. The first time was some very average tapas including some pretty disgusting cold, gelatinous octopus. The second time I played it safe and got a chicken burger, this was really bad, it smelled off and didn’t taste any good but I was starving so ate it anyway. After this second disappointment I made the decision to stop going here and head to The Grain Store instead. The staff here don’t seem overly enthusiastic or that chirpy on the occasions I’ve visited. When I heard about this place opening I was stoked, as I loved the idea of sixteen craft beers on tap round the corner from my house but the place was always dead and had no atmosphere combined with my other complaints above. Here’s hoping things have improved, as more bars popping up with decent craft beers can only be a good thing.“

“Tucked away in a trendy part of town, it’s a cool, well set out bar. I visited during a quiet time and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was very good and a great range of Aussie beers on tap and some interesting foreign ones. I like the place a lot and will definitely be going back when I’m in town.“

“A drive through bottle shop attached to a large pub, a limited but interesting range of craft beer along side all the usual stuff. A good range of growlers with 10+ taps offering some great craft beers. A surprising find that’s well worth a look.“

“My favourite spot to buy beer in Newcastle, NSW. The staff are really friendly and know their stuff and readily give out advice on things they’ve enjoyed recently. There are also very nice beers in a $4 basket that changes all the time, sometimes they aren’t great but other times they have tip top beers. If you’re in the area I recommend going in.“

“Great venue and a great choice of Aussie craft beer. Have to say I disagree with the previous reviewer - I’ve always found quite a few interesting choices when I’ve been drinking there. Based on their current list (which they keep reasonably up to date via social media), I’d say about 10 out of the 20 taps are beers I’d like to try and a few of those are pretty hard to get elsewhere. Food is basic and probably a tad on the expensive side for what it is.“

“Really nice job refitting the old view factory, it is funky. Service is slow but OK. Good food and great value beers; I suggest the tasting paddle. My biggest issue is the beer selection. 20 taps are great, but the standard of the beer on offer has been really disappointing. I love Australian beer, but on my visit today only 2/20 beers were solid. The others were just average offerings. This is a place that is great for those new to the beer scene, not those who want the something unusual or special.“

“Unfortunately for beer aficionados in Newcastle the Albion is not as good as it used to be. They still have a great craft selection but nothing compared to their previous selection. There is far too many subpar ’craft’ NSW brewers on tap. Needs more international beers with a little more variety in the offerings (not just pale ales).“

“Maybe the best store in Eastern Australia. Strong selection of Australia, North American, and other areas. One negative is the growler system being off the tap and not counter pressure but a usually solid range for growlers. Can always find a good gem in that store . Service is usually good. Good selection of glassware as well. Good thing the shop is in Newcastle or I would be just broke.“

“The place to go in Newcastle for Craft Beer. Rates up there with the best in NSW, and Australia, for selection of beers and beer events. Rotating taps, particularly supportive of local beers. Regularly holds beer dinner and events. Wine selection and food also very worthy of note. Very knowledgable staff and relaxed atmosphere, particularly compared to similar establishments in Sydney.“

“Best bottle shop in possibly all of NSW. A little pricey though, but selection time can mean quite a stay & anxiety can creep in when matching that perfect 6 pack. Have come along way in 2 years when they hadn’t heard of Sierra Nevada.“

“Dropped in after seeing their advert in Beer & Brewer magazine. Excellent selection, both local and imports and very well laid out. Made it really easy to find what you are looking for. Had Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which I have been trying to find for ages now so pretty excited about that. Great bottle and worth the 3 hour drive. “

“The first bar/restaurant in town to serve good Belgian beers! (in the correct glasses to boot) Several years later, it’s still popular. Nice place to come for a few brews after work during the week. On the weekend it’s popular with cocktail-drinking youngsters but the vibe is still OK. Nice art-deco decor. Food is not bad either, although quite pricey.“

“UPDATE: Possibly the best bottle shop in Australia?? Great place for both imports and local micros. Always carries the seasonal stuff from Murrays, Matilda Bay et al. and many hard to get local micros. Good range of Belgians include some hard to get stuff like Cantillon. Carries Mikkeler, Nonge too!! From the US there is Rogue and a few others, and a decent UK range. Absolute must visit.“
