“Rural pub near Ertvelde which has been a beer specialty café since some years. Has a house brew next to a decent selection of regional beers, though nothing I hadn’t tasted before. Food is limited but the spaghetti was okay. Attracts lots of cyclists in summer. There are beer books and magazines available for reading and service is very efficient as well as friendly; the owner is clearly passionate about Belgian beers, always a delight chatting with him. I would not say this is worth making a detour for just by itself, but in combination with a beer trip to Ghent - which is not that far away - this is certainly recommendable.“

“Visited Aug 2014. Been driving past this place by bike and car for years..finally arranged a premeditated stumble-in and was very impressed by the cozy and natural atmosphere, the shelves of beer books and obligatory, well-chosen breweriana. Lovingly designed and curated beer list by style, with sometimes elaborate descriptions of all (mostly Be) beers on offer and explanations , including why some beers are unavailable. Tap list could be more extensive and the house beer comes in bottles, but in this neck of the Meetjesland woods, you have to know your traditional locals. - Food: Great homemade snacks, shrimp croquettes with actual shrimp in it, and local delicacy "kop" with unbeatable Tierentyn mustard. I imagine their proudly offered Breugel dishes must be a feast...hope to find out soon. - Service: obviously knowledgeable, Orval ambassador, former Waterhuis a/d Bierkant waiter. Maybe a bit tight-lipped or slow to warm to the occasion, but maybe that’s just the tribe. - Excellent value for most beers, with shop prices on bottles hardly doubled and 1-year old Orval just over €4; value for money on food. - Worth calling ahead and stopping by when en route from, say, Holland to Ghent.“

“Very nice bar, cosy interior with lots of wood. A very extensive beer list with some nice hidden gems in it. Too bad it’s kind of hard to get there without a car, as I don’t like being the designated driver. :p“

“I think I’d prefer to go here on a quiter day, I was visiting as part of a two-bus beertourist group. We still managed to get the beers we asked for, the selection was mainly Belgian but broad, and the food was quite nice too. Certainly a worthy place.“

“Visiting this place during Podges Belgian Beer Tour as a part of the same group as my friend Rune, and I just have to say that I agree totally with his comments. Could easily spend the most of the day here.“

“Food and beer at this beer-related restaurant were included in Podges Belgian Beer Tour. Their home made food, presented as a Breughel Meal Buffet, was just delicious. Regrettable, we only had time for a few bottles from the huge beer menu. Luckily they had a take away service for bottled beers. I was specially impressed by the efficiency in serving about 25 Norwegians and a similar number of Brits at the same time. Highly recommended (visited, 30.04.2011).“

“Very cozy rural pub, with +/- 100 beers’ list, very cleverly chosen, with an emphasis on the local brewery Van Steenberge, as well on lambic-based beers, trappists, and regional specialities. Menu is apt to inflate, which has been proven since its 2 years existence. Twinned with an "antiques" shop. Varied clientèle, locals, hikers and beergeeks, all served to perfection by host Gerten (who was responsible for the real blooming of Gents’ "Waterhuis aan den Bierkant") and his wife. Food is restricted to regional snacks, but on demand, more ample dinners as "Brueughelmaaltijd" can be had. No EGN, but often special themed beertastings with advantageous prices are held: specific breweries, lambic-based beers, etc. Recent change of ownership doesn’t seem to affect its characteristics. “
