58 /100 RUE DU PALIS 85 Modern and rustic buiding with a wonderful view and surroundings. Unfortunately a bit loud and hectic with 90:s hits on high volume in the loudspeakers. Service a bit slow and stressed. Food was good, beers were of varying quality.
With the location this could have been a great place, now it is a show of missed oppurtunities. |
56 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Shop in the city center of Bouillon, underneath the castle. Many beers, but nothing very special. Some regional but also a lot of well known beers you can find in many shops. Only Belgium beers as far as I have seen. Not worth any detour, but if you go to visit the castle, have a look for yourself. One of the few bottleshops I visited and did not buy anything... Maybe you can find some ticks. |
50 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Used to be home to Brasserie de Bouillon. Now sorts of official shop for the brewery (they moved several km off city limits and are not open to public). So, here you get 6 hit-and-miss beers from this brewery. In addition to that you get a lot off other beers from the area. Good selection. Worth checking only if you are visiting the castle above. |
76 /100 Bouillon (Restaurant) RUE DU COLLÈGE 44 Walking in to find about 10 serious gueuzes and krieks from Boon, Oud Beersel, 3 Fonteinen, Lindemans and Girardin in 75cl bottles was a nice way to begin. All about €18-23 per bottle but hard to find in these parts. Sharing a bottle of gueuze and then rolling into a tender wild boar filet -- draped in a bit of fois gras and accompanied by roast potatoes, figs, apples, and currants -- washed down with a Rochefort 10 ended up as a highlight of my trip. Rather large red-brown brasserie-café attached to a hotel, across the street from the river. Castle views from the terrace out front. Service was busy but adequate and patient with our poor French. |
46 /100 Hôtel restaurant Pizzeria Il Padrino (Restaurant) 2 RUE DES HAUTES VOIES An unexceptional pan-euro-Italian place with an unexceptional beer list. |
64 /100 Windsor (Bar) BOULEVARD HEYNAN 1 The highlight of this place was the crêpes with bacon, mushrooms and cream sauce. But the 40-ish beers also had a few from Bouillon plus Monsieur Rock. This town and its amazing castle really deserve a place with a more ambitious beer list. Has wooden-paneled brownness and upholstered booths. It’s all right. |
70 /100 Centre (Bar) GRAND-RUE 21 It takes a certain kind of person to enjoy the aging, unchanging decor in a place like this. I am that kind of person. The light-up Orval sign behind the bar? The long wooden benches and paneling? The brown floral wallpaper that, fuck it, is extended to cover the ceiling? The years worth of Bush Noel signs that clearly never get taken down? The lady behind the bar might have been here to see it all go up. And there is a certain musty odor here, like a great-aunt’s apartment. You must come here for an Orval at least. You cannot deny that it has character. |
62 /100 L’Estaminet (Bar) PLACE SAINT ARNOLD 3 Brightly lit and popular local café. Mainly lager and Trappists with a few local beers. There is a colorful gaming machine called "Junior" that naturally attracts children despite the sign warning us that you must be 18 to play. I can’t say I’d recommend this place, but they do have Orval and spicy nuts. |
68 /100 Epicerie Grand Rue (Grocery Store) GRAND-RUE A convenience store with a beer selection that’s arguably more interesting than Marche du Natalie. And, you know, snacks and stuff. |
68 /100 Vieille Ardenne (Restaurant) GRAND-RUE 9 I was here eight years ago and I can’t say it has changed much. Brown and neighborly with 40+ beers, and a restaurant section that opens at meal times and can do les menus gastronomique -- trout, Ardennes ham, and so on. Found Lupulus Hopera here and haven’t been able to find it anywhere else in town. |
64 /100 Epicerie Grand Rue (Grocery Store) GRAND-RUE Next to Windsor Hotel and bridge "Porte de Liège". I discovered there many belgian beers I didn’t kow yet. OK. Average price. Interesting because "Marché de Nathalie" was closed during my trip. |
56 /100 Hôtel restaurant Pizzeria Il Padrino (Restaurant) 2 RUE DES HAUTES VOIES I ate/slept there during a 3 day-trip in Bouillon. Beerly speaking, the experience is not outstanding but you can taste Godefroy beers. Pleasant pizzeria next to the river "La Semois". |
66 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Decent selection of harder to find Wallonian beers, especially from the Luxemburg region (such as Brasserie de Bouillon). Prices are Ok. Too bad there was no Fantôme. Nothing very special as well, but certainly a good choice in the area. |
56 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Decent selection of local beers. Prices are pretty decent. |
60 /100 L’Estaminet (Bar) PLACE SAINT ARNOLD 3 Definitely the local hangout. We went in on a Friday evening and the place was packed with the local beer drinkers. The service was ok, but you kinda got the feeling you were intruding, might not be the best idea to go here on a Friday after all. The prices were good however. The selection was limited but still good. |
82 /100 Vieille Ardenne (Restaurant) GRAND-RUE 9 Not sure how I didn’t rate this the first time I visited, but just there again. "charming" is definitely the right word. I believe they have a ’normal’ selection for the region of the more common Belgian beers, but as they’ve been Orval ambassadors for a long time running, I see no reason to order anything else. The bottles we got this time were ~2 months old, which I believe is as fresh as possible. One of those cozy places that encourages enthusiastic, Orval-fueled conversations (which on this visit ranged from Finnish baseball rules to the Higgs Bosun). All in all - Bouillon is an absolute gem of a town that loves its beers which makes up for any shortcomings in vast beer selection. |
74 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Large selection includes the Bouillon range, whose labels are more interesting than the beers. Gorgeous town, well worth a long diversion. |
84 /100 Vieille Ardenne (Restaurant) GRAND-RUE 9 Cosy little bar, Orval ambassadors. Beer selection wasn’t amazing but the ambiance and service made this the best bar in Bouillon. |
58 /100 Windsor (Bar) BOULEVARD HEYNAN 1 One of many similar bars in the area. Nothing special but does have a couple of Bouillon beers along with omni-present Rochefort, Orval & LaChouffe. |
82 /100 Vieille Ardenne (Restaurant) GRAND-RUE 9 Charming little restaurant(ok to just drink) with good local food and an ok beer list - disappointingly nothing from local breweries except the omnipresent Rochefort, Orval and Achouffe.
Opposite the Marche de Nathalie beer shop. |
66 /100 L’Estaminet (Bar) PLACE SAINT ARNOLD 3 The cafe on the square where the locals drink. Very small, terrible decor but very friendly and likeable.Gets packed in the evening. Much better value than the more tourist orientated cafes surrounding it. Smallish but adequate beer list. Not much in the way of local beers except the ubiquitous Rochefort, Orval & Achouffe. |
70 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 One of the better places to buy beer in the region. Specializes in their own brands, which are plenty but not that great. They’ve got a lot of other interesting beers as well, though |
76 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 A nice place with a good selection of Belgian beers, and local specialities in particular. Good prices, good service. |
68 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 No longer the site of the Boillon Brewery. Nice store with good service but, disappointingly, not stocking beer from several of the local breweries such as Fantome, St Helene & Millivertus. A few from Rulles and St Monon and of course Bouillon. Good service and reasonable prices. For local beers the shop in Roche en Ardenne is a better bet. |
72 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 i think this is a very beautifful store as i visit the ardennes and that region for 20 years and am intrested in beers since 5 years ago this is the only store i think has a good value when it comes to regional and wallon beers ... i think there aren’t too good shops in that region who have a awesome stock like this .... |
72 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 A wonderful little find in town. And it is open on Sundays lucky for me. Huge selection and a great stop. Other have said what needs to be said. |
84 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Was here yesterday for the tirth time. Good choice of (300) beers from the most Wallonian breweries. Original giftpaks. The hard to find beers from this brewery (Bouillon) also here. |
74 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Very large selection of Biere Ardenesse
Some tastings would have been appreciated |
72 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Beers were stocked on wooden shelves in a somewhat lackluster order, and cases were piled here and there on the floor. As large a selection as I’ve seen in the area, plenty of Wallonian breweries like Des Fagnes, Du Bocq and Caracole, a few oddballs (most of them from Du Bocq) and plenty of trappists (no Westy). They had a new one, Atok’ale, made with cranberries from Québec! Overall I wouldn’t count on this place to do all of my Belgian Beer shopping, but for someone passing through it’s totally worth a stop. Tickers or those who look for those goofy Beers with little to no reviews will have a field day here. What really caught my eye was their breweryana section. Lots of rare glassware, and a whole display case of Orval stuff. Prices were very reasonable across the board, for instance the Montgaillard (oversized Orval glass) was only 50 euros, I’ve seen it at double that price elsewhere. Beers and glasses were affordable as well. The girl at the register was really nice, gave us a few suggestions and packed my stuff very well. |
60 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Not technically a brewery, but a beer shop run by a brewery. Pretty excellent selection of Wallonian ales that weren’t as available in Brussels. Also a limited selection of gift packs and breweriana. |
62 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Nice store, with a very decent selection of belgian beers. Too bad the beers of the brewery don’t match the quality of the good belgians. |
60 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 This place has a great selection of beer glassware too and the prices are great as well. Make sure you see the castle and the bar right across the street as a great selection of beer and good food. |
74 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Authentic belgian beer store , wicked selection of belgian’s treasures, some rarities. The third best reason why to go to Bouillon, after the castle and the very cheerful people surroundings. |
80 /100 Le Marché de Nathalie Brasserie de Bouillon (Beer Store) GRAND-RUE 22 Great selection of bottled Belgian beers and good prices. Bouillon is a small town, so it’s not too hard to find (same side of river as the fort). Parking nearby is tight, but they’ll watch your beer for you while you get your car (if you bought a lot like I did). |
