“Visited late on a Saturday, after the kitchen was closed. A large space in a strip mall, nice and airy. Separate game room, and a musician playing a set while I was there. Chatted a lot with the server, and with the two other patrons, a local man and his son. They a long line of tap handles, including two of their regular beers infused through Randalls. As they began breaking down the tap lines, the server offered us the jalapenos from one Randall, and the other patrons dug in. Everybody is very friendly and hospitable, with interesting stories going on. Hope to catch them some time when the kitchen is open. Beers priced for full services or tasters (plus crowlers), with a special on taster trays.“

“Thursday afternoon visit. Huge, new building. About 18 beers on tap, along with a cider and a mead. Located in a shopping center. Excellent service. Beers were what you would expect from a new brewery.“

“Small, but cozy. On busy nights it can be nuts to butts. Bartenders are hit or miss; some are very nice and knowledgeable, some are a bit standoffish. Beer selection is decent and most are very tasty. They often have food-truck service on the side. An up-and-comer in small town Ankeny.“

“Visited at opening on a Friday. Nice brewery in an old firehouse, which has been modernized. Very clean. Service was excellent and knowledgeable. Thought beers were well above average. Flights of four available for $8 (I think). Enjoyed my visit. No food available.“

“Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Initially I hit this place to buy a corkscrew, but as I walked up there was a big sign announcing a growler filling station. Very interesting to see for a tiny liquor store right off the interstate. The beer selection in the coolers is very limited, and nothing really to comment on. The growler station was really cool - 15 beers on, mostly local Des Moines area breweries available in 32 or 64 oz growlers. Sold a $1.99 empty 32 ounce growler which was great to see. Guy working the counter was really energetic and passionate about the growler station. All in all a quirky place worth hitting if you are passing by on I-35.

70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Kind of a cool spot. Old firehouse, or so it seems. Beers are average at best. Flights available and 4 oz pours at $2/per. Friendly service.“

“Modern clean appearance. They have big equipment so I assume big plans for the future. I had a couple of beers which were solid and unique. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Prices seemed a little high. I will look forward to trying more in the future. A few tasty guest taps. No food other than a few options from a neighboring restaurant.“

“Pretty hard to get into this place--I drove past it and had to double back. Pretty small shop, but had Friday night tasting of beers and wines. I found quite a number of local Iowa craft beers, which is what I was looking for (plus one Boulevard beer from KC). Prices seemed a bit high. Service was all right. Might stop in again sometime.“

“Decent stop. Nice selection of locals. Prices are ok. I only stop here if I do.t have a chance to stop at Cyclone up in Ames or beer crazy. But it gets the job done.“

“The previous reviews pretty much nailed it. Nice service, but not super knowledgeable. The prices seemed a little high to me. Small but decent quality of selection. Their biggest draw is that they are right off of I-35, but their selection is blown away by Cyclone Liquors and the better places around Des Moines. Maybe it’s better that they keep the selection smaller as I didn’t see any dusty stuff on the shelf. Only worth a stop if you don’t have time to go elsewhere in the area and want some Iowa beer.“

“This place serves it’s pourpose, I suppose. It’s right off the Highway so if you’re just passing through this will be the easisest place to pick up a few Iowa/midwest micros. Generally speaking though the selection is lacking, it looks like they rotate new stuff in but with a full wall of the store serving as a beer cooler one would have to walk to the last five feet to find anything particularly good. They’ve got a bunch of singles at pretty seriously inflated prices, for example I almost bought a Tank 7 12 oz till I saw it was almost five dollars, I almost bought a 330ml of Chouffe till I saw it was almost seven bucks. Six pack prices are on point with basically any liquor or grocery store in the area. One can find good beer here, but not a lot of it. If I lived in Ankney I might stop in from time to time to see what they’ve got in, but given the selection at other Des Moines locations I can’t imagine going here again. Oh but they have a drive-thru!!!!“

“Nothing fancy about it but it did have a nice selection of local Iowa beers. Plus you can build your own 6-pack. Probably about 12-15 Iowa beers and then plenty of other Midwest beers too. Even have a drive through in the pack. I just wanted some Iowa brews and this place was perfect.“
