“Large space, has a nice concept. A blend of restaurant, brewery, and rental brew space. I wouldn't say the food or the beers were that good, but it was very family friendly, which was important when I visited with Jay, Lauren, Rose, and Flora in 2022.“

“Fairly large restaurant style place with a long bar on one side and a brewhouse off to the side. Tip box for the brewer, first time I've seen that. Taplist was large and the server knew them backwards and forwards; she was also a good source of local knowledge. One of the few places in the region open all day Monday, so I can drink every day of the week. Food is decent enough pub grub. Beers are above average. Worth a stop for sure.“

“Stopped in for a Friday Happy Hour. Plenty of parking nearby. Most of the seating was indoors, a few tables out back, and plenty of space at the bar. Beer selection was decent, food was good. Staff was friendly, worth the stop.“

“Visited on a Thursday evening. Beer selection is towards the back of the store warn on a shelf, in several coolers and in a beer cave in the back corner. Selection is decent, with most of the locally available brewers represented. I didn’t see anything particularly rare, though solid selection. Limited single selection, though there were some nice options available as singles. Service was welcoming and friendly, prices standard for the area. (Just ok) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited on a Sunday evening with my wife. This is the newest location of the Martin City Brewing team, located in the Mission Farms development. The layout is bright and open with restaurant seating to the left, and high top bar tables to the right. Pretty outdoor patio is located off of the bar area. The bar itself seats ~10 people. The beer selection is 16 house beers, available as full and half pours. Also have full bar and solid wine selection. The food selection is similar to the Pizza and Tap, with Pizzas, Salads and more sandwich options. Service was super friendly, and like with all Martin City staff truly seem to want to be working there. I live in the center of the 3 Martin City locations, and I am sure this one will fall into my regular rotation.

82 = ***½ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited over the lunch hour. Friendly and fast service. Six of their beers on tap. Prices seemed very fair. Beer quality was good. The homebrew shop adds a nice dimension. Will stop by again for sure.“

“Visited for dinner with the family on a Monday. Smaller version of a normal Old Chicago, with a nice open feel with the bar spread between inside and the outdoor patio. Beer selection is solid, though nothing crazy. Food is always good, from pizzas to pasta to sandwiches I have always been happy with the food. Big tap selection of mostly common beers. Decent selection of rotating seasonals. If you are new to craft beer, and want to try some new beers - this is a good choice. If you are stuck near here for work and can’t get anywhere else in town - this is a good choice. If you are a beer nerd with wheels, you were never considering this place anyway.

“Nice neighborhood bar setup with a ton of TVs and roughly 60 taps, mostly national brands, though they did have some locals. The bartender was friendly and attentive. Had a good knowledge of what he was serving. Food was pretty good. Bathrooms were acceptable. Parking might be an issue on busy nights but on our visit it was mostly empty.“

“Older warehouse style wine & beer store. About 30/40/30 liquor/wine/beer. They had a pretty good selection, but I wish the beer selection was bigger and they had more local brew (ton of BMC), especially in the pick 6 section. Didn’t check out the bathrooms. Has ample parking.“

“Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. It’s a pretty big space with an outdoor patio area and a two sided bar. They had over 60 taps and you could beers in 5 ounce pours. I was hoping they’d have more local stuff. They had some solid taps but nothing too adventurous or that hasn’t already had. The food wa solid and the bar staff was receptive. It’s a solid Taphouse.“

“Located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Typical liquor store setup with the beer mostly in coolers. They did have a row with somebody bombers and a small refrigerated pick six section. Solid selection but not a lot too rare. I was disappointed they didn’t have more KS stuff available in singles.“

“Visited on a Wednesday, right after work. Parking is in the lot out front, or street parking. I’d imagine on the weekends this could be an issue, but for the most part should be no worries. Nice new building, patio seating out front, homebrew shop of the right, bar straight ahead, table seating to the left, and the brew your own setups around the perimeter of the room. Beer selection is 4 house beers on draft, as well as 11 guest drafts. Kombucha, whiskey, wine also available. I didn’t notice pour sizes, though a couple of house beers were marked as available as crowlers to go. Interesting pub food menu available. Prompt, friendly service. I like this place, will certainly be back.

“Visited on a Wednesday evening. Worn down store located in a nondescript strip with a parking in lot in front. Located on the service road right next to the busy Shawnee Mission Parkway near Metcalf. The beer selection is macro with an ok selection of everyday craft. There is a single / mix a six available though it is quite parse. Basically looks like they might be closing the mix a six down. Service was really friendly and helpful, looked up beers for me and were certainly the highlight of the place. I hit this during a tour of recently added beer stores in the area to check it out.

“Visited on a Wednesday evening. Located in a somewhat rundown strip mall, with a large parking lot in front. Located around the corner from Burg and Barrel which is a plus. The beer selection is the normal everyday craft, mixed in with a bunch of macro and not much else. There are a couple of large format bottles but no single / mix a six. Service was friendly. I hit this during a tour of recently added beer stores in the area to check it out.

“I eat at Tanner’s probably once a month, as it’s a favorite with my in-laws. In Kansas City, there are a bunch of sports grill and bars in strip malls that are named after a dude. Food here is solid, service is usually friendly and prompt and the beer list is maybe average for the area. I will give Tanner’s credit, adding the place to ratebeer and becoming a verified venue on Untappd, shows a growing interest in beer. I added availability for a snapshot of what is currently (early June 2017) on.

“Visited for lunch on a Friday. Located in old Overland Park, parking is street in front or the market parking lot in back. Entrances front and back. Open layout with a large circle bar, booth and table seating throughout the rest of the room. Beer selection is 20 drafts, mix of macro, national craft and 5 local beers which were all standard lineup. The vibe is sports bar, localish crowd. Service and food are always solid.

“It’s the big box store of bottle shops. Huge warehouse-like space with tons of everything. Clean, bright, tons of coolers. Big section of singles and make your own six pack. I didn’t ask for help, but wouldn’t have necessarily expected much given the type of place. No focus apparent on rare or interesting releases.“

Hy-Vee Market Cafe (Restaurant)
8501 WEST 95TH STREET
“Visited for dinner on a Wednesday. Located on the SE corner of 95th Street and Antioch. Due to Kansas liquor laws, this Hy Vee does not sell beer to go other than 3.2 abw grocery store beer. The beer related story is only the Market Cafe. The Market cafe is located on the second level of this brand new Hy Vee grocery store. The stairs are in the front door, to the left. The ambiance feels like a cafe in a grocery store, so no surprises there. Beer selection is 16 drafts, mostly local and a few can and bottle selections. When I visited, there were 2 Walnut River beers on, which is cool as I have never seen them on draft before in the KC area. They host tap takeover and special events, so worth keeping an eye on.

“Very nice looking store that was quite large. Small singles section to make your own six pack for $8.99. Otherwise, prices seemed solid, better than Minnesota at least on the Avery bottles. Did I mention Uncle Jacobs just sitting on the shelf? Would not see that in the Twin Cities. Worth a stop if you are in the area and don’t want to make the drive to their Missouri store.“

“Stopped here several times while in KC, KS. Nice shop that has a smallish pick-six selection, but numbers of things not available in Arkansas. One long row of bombers (four shelves high). And then a good selection of six-packs of various things. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but a good, solid place to get a good selection of beers. Definitely worth a trip.“

“Visited for lunch on a Tuesday. As you enter, there is an event space to the right, and the restaurant to the left. 12 or so seats at bar, many high top tables throughout the space. Nice clean design primarily using beer logos and beerania. 12 taps, all craft including a house lager made by Weston. The tap list is featured on three screens above the bar on a Digital Pour system which listed ABV, IBU, serving size, price, amount of beer left in the barrel as well Foursquare and Untappd check-ins, twitter updates, upcoming kegs and events. I sincerely wish every place had this. Very much a neighborhood fell to the place, friendly service and tasty food. If you live near the spot, it should be your local.

“Visited on a busy Saturday night with friends. Open layout consisting mostly of bar seating and high tops throughout the open room. There was also a nice patio. They were showing 80’s rock videos and the music was cranked pretty hard. Not necessarily my crowd, though everyone was having a good time. The beer selection varied significantly from what was listed on the web site, though was still solid. Maybe 40 taps of solid craft, I had fresh Dale’s Pale Ale and was happy. Service was prompt and professional.

“Have visited this place a few different times now. Right off 75th & Metcalf in a pretty busy part of OP. Parking is sometimes a challenge due to the lot being pretty full during peak hours. Walking in mostly what you notice is the huge wooden bar and the TVs everywhere that are tuned to sports channels. Interesting two-level seating area, actually fairly large inside. Huge chalkboard right up front that shows the current draft choices, which are typically pretty well-chosen and rotate frequently. I’ve always been able to order something I really want to drink. The last couple of trips I’ve gone for both dinner and beer, and ordered a hamburger each time. They’re really very good hamburgers, one of the best in town, for sure. Service has been above average each trip as well. Prices aren’t terrible, not the cheapest place to grab a pint that I know of, but not the most expensive either. Pretty sports bar-y overall, sometimes the volume on the main game is cranked up to insane levels which is honestly not my kinda thing and makes it hard to carry on a conversation. Regardless, the well-chosen beers available and the burgers make it worth a visit anyway.“

“Finally visited this store. Been across the street many times visiting the only Russian food store in town. Why the wait? Well,. there really isn’t much need to visit a KS store in KC. But finally visited and it was nice. Big clean store, the beer seemed well taken care of. Got everything KS has but pretty small singles section, so its still not as good as Cork n Barrel in Lawrence. Also, not as good as the better stores on the MO side. However, nowadays KS does have a few beers that MO doesnt so worth a visit for the true hunters. Price are also very good.“

“(located south of the Red Robin on the SE corner of Antioch and 135th) Visited midday on a Tuesday. Very much a wine focused store, though there is a selection of beer in the back corner. Mix a six available on a warm shelf, a handful of large format bottles, and six packs in the cooler. Generally more common national and local craft. Didn’t see many special releases about. The store itself is very nice, and would be a great place to buy wine in this part of town. There is also a connected store with accessories and a nice cheese and sausage selection. Service was friendly.

“Visited early evening on a Monday. Clean store, organized with beer in coolers along the wall to the left and in the back. Selection is average import and US craft. The did have a nice $9.99 mix a six which had three doors of selection. Didn’t really see any rarer or special beers, though looks like they may get some. Service was really friendly, and the wine selection was really nice. Overall, if you live in the area, certainly worth the visit.

“Good selection on tap that changes out frequently. Unfortunately too many of the taps dedicated to macros or non-interesting micros. Had Boulevard Coffee Ale on draft, which was a nice treat. “Wanted to like this store, but just couldn’t. Out of the way location for starters. Beer selection seemed much smaller than their Missouri store. The pick six coolers had signs blocking the views. Nothing in the way of special releases that I found. No reasons for me to come here instead of the Missouri store.“
