“Sport bar type brewery with a nice warm fireplace. Good place for a cold night. Beer is OK, the darker stuff better than the hoppy stuff. All available in flights of four. Prices pretty good, service OK. A few blocks walk from Dirty Truth, which is definitely a better local option for beer.“

“Great little bar with a great line up of beers. Lambic on tap, and plenty of vintage lambic bottles. Also some good local stuff from top breweries in the New England area, and some regional gems I hadn't heard of. They do flights of four as well. Prices ok to high. Fairly empty on a Sunday night when I was there - they had a large screen playing Escape from NY with Kurt Russell. Sweet. Definitely worth a detour kind of a place.“

“Surprisingly big place. Some college kid waitstaff didn't know much about beer. Standard pub fare. Okay place, fine beer.“

“This place has a chain bar Irish feel as though the owners had based their Irish pub on other American versions. They have a ton of taps but much of it is full of stuff that's pretty easy to find. I was surprised they didn't have more local offerings. They do sell beers in smaller pours which is a big plus and the bartender was personable and also likes beer which was another plus.“

“Located on a side street in downtown Northampton. Definitely has a worn in, dive bar feel full of signs of businesses that used to exist in Northampton. It's a long narrow places with billiards on the second floor. They have a lot of taps but it's more BMC than craft. Definitely a cool place to hang out with friends and play pool but I wouldn't really call it a craft beer destination.“

“Located in downtown across the street from what looks like a train station. Nice old building with the bar in front and the restaurant in back. They had 20-22 taps of local and regional craft many of which available in 8 ounce pours. Food was oversauced and fussy and the portions were small. It's a solid beer place but I think there are better options in town.“

“Pretty clean little store with a jovial staff. Selection seemed good - ranging from MA beers to a good dose of New England (Foolproof [RI], Long Trail [VT], Two Roads [CT], Maine Beer Co, Smuttynose, Henniker). Ommegang bottles, Adirondack bottles, Founders bottles, Rogue and Lagunitas. Value seemed reasonable. Nothing to go bonkers about, but hey when in Northampton, I might check it out again.“

“I liked this place when I went through Northampton. Their selection is a good size to me and service was pretty friendly - always nice to see the staff joking with each other. I’d go back if I lived closer.“

“I recently visited on a weekday and was pleased to see that while being the oldest brewpub in the state, they are keeping up with the times. Friendly crowd. Seems like a lot of locals and college students. Very good food and a respectable beer list. They now sell cans too.“

“Admittedly I didn’t spend as much time here as I planned since I enjoyed the Foundry so much. It was a bit annoying that the tap list was a chalkboard on the far end of the bar. It was quiet by the time I arrived which I didn’t mind. And they KBS on tap, served at a reasonable size, for a reasonable price which I didn’t mind either. I can imagine this place must get deafening when fully packed, but they do have a well curated tap list and the bartender was friendly.“

“This place was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It helps that they have a parking garage literally on their front door so that’s not issue. They do 4 6 ounce flights at $10 which is reasonable. The beers were solid to good. It was the Friday of commencement at UMASS so it was packed and packed early so the bar staff was in the weeds most of my time there. The food was really quite good. The hamburger pizza was quite solid and the green peppers were a nice touch. The catfish bites, considering that we’re so far from the deep south, were amazing. I could eat those things all day. So I might go back for the beer but I’m definitely going back for the catfish bites.“

“Defintily has a gourmet grocery, wine store feel which I quite like. I don’t like worrying about things like cleanliness or expired product and this place is popular enough with good enough inventory controls, it seems, that wouldn’t happen. Staff was cordial and professional. Selection was fantastic for a town of this size. It was well curated and contained a lot of the newest and greatest in craft beer that you can get in that part of the state. The only debit were the prices which were the highest I saw on my trip. Still it’s a nice store and I’d love to live a community that a place of such high quality.“

“The last time we visited the Dirty Truth, on the night of Hurricane Sandy, it was very dark because of a power cut and lit only by dim light bulbs and candles, making it very hyggeligt. I seem to remember from a previous visit that the walls are a rich red colour and hung with original modern art for sale. The service is friendly and the beer list is very good although we steered clear of the Belgian bottles (Tillquin, De Ranke and Cantillon for between $37 and $60 a pop) and the Herefordshire ciders as we don’t cross the Atlantic to drink European beers we can have any time at home for a fraction of the price! (Last visited 29 October 2012).“

“We’ve visited the Northampton Brewery a couple of times for dinner, most recently on the night when Hurricane Sandy hit the coast so it was rather quiet. It’s modern and very pleasant, with a large conservatory area for dining and an outside balcony (closed for obvious reasons on this occasion). The conservatory has light wood, copper topped tables, a simply stencilled frieze and potted palms. The food, which makes use of local produce, is good and they serve the beers in 8, 12 and 16 ounce glasses so it’s possible to try a few different ones without too much risk of falling over. A good spot - highly recommended. (Last visited 29 October 2012).“

“Pop’s is the best small beer outlet in Northampton. The bigger Liquors 44 has a much wider selection, but the choices at Pop’s are fine and diverse and often changing. Prices are often better as well, with the occasional good bargain available. Staff is friendly and I’m knowledgeable if they are not. I’d rather give my business to the little guy and dump my returnables on the big guy up the street.“

“Great spot. They are going after some ballsy beer styles and hitting the mark on most of them - though not all. They provide a sampler flight that I consider good value. The service is friendly and attentive. I didn’t eat here on my visit. The location is quite convenient. A must-visit in town.“

“0 Stars! What we received for the 3-5 minutes of being there was a seriously bigoted and pretentious staff. Some one should let them know, that went out in the 50’s. Walked into this bar with my four friends, sat down, admired their artwork & took some pictures of us all together being that it was my good friend’s bachelorette party. This douche walks up and says to us all........we can’t serve you, we’d be over serving you. Most ridiculous, flat out, obvious lie ever.........I DON"T DRINK.....EVER!!!!! Never have. It’s not my taste & I was the DD anyway so I can say beyond a 100% shadow of a doubt that I was not intoxicated in the least. This jerk still refuses to serve me or anyone else to include something as innocuous as a coffee. Mind you, this is after only 3-5 minutes of walking in the door! We hadn’t even had a chance to walk to the bar, we just sat down at our table. For all they knew we could have been there for food, which was exactly what we came for, the duck! This was Ben, not Chris, although he allowed it. When asked to state another reason (again, because his was obviously not true) he couldn’t come up with anything except "there were a number of things we saw." In 3 minutes? Like what buddy? We don’t have painted on ankle biter jeans or thick black glasses and a bowtie? It’s not like we were disheveled and dirty or something. I’m an 8 year veteran of the US Army and now I’m a corporate recruiter for the top 20 on the Fortune 100 list. My friend’s are school teachers, exec assistants etc. Not some early 20 something’s who are there to dance on their bar. If your looking for a place to get treated like trash, THIS IS the place for you. If your looking to get a drink, THIS IS NOT the place for you. Don’t you know you’re not allowed to drink in bars? Beyond absurd! Racist? Sexist? Elitist (you’re a bartender, get a clue)? = Bigot = The Dirty Truth. By the way, there are 2 much nicer bars within a 3min walking distance of this disgrace with much larger selections of beer on tap & as well as everything else to include better pricing.“

“A very clean and upscale beer bar. There is a big draft beer menu though on my visit nothing very obscure. Premium prices on the more esoteric beers. For somebody who hasn’t had a lot of US craft beer this would be a great spot. But for the more grizzled RBian, you won’t get the ’wow’ factor here. Better off hitting up the brewpub in town.“

“Large brewpub in downtown North Hampton. Service was pretty good and was willing to explain the beer offerings and menu. Plenty of house beers to try as a flight, but most were just okay. Food was good and there was plenty of things to choose from. Overall a decent place.“

“This seems like quite the hip place. Good crowd when I visited on a Friday night. Seemed very trendy. It might sound like I’m being condescending, but I’m not. You could drop this place in the middle of Brooklyn and no one would notice. But either way, the folks I sat next to at the bar were quite friendly and a struck up a nice conversation with more than one person. Fair prices, and a relatively interesting menu. Although once I got past the few local beers that were new to me, I guess there really wasn’t much that interested me. Put there were 4-5 Jack’s Abbey taps on, so I was good for awhile. Average service, my only real complaint in this regard was a draft board that was difficult to read and no paper menu. All told, a nice spot in a hoppin downtown area in the middle of nowhere. Glad I went, would certainly consider going again if I was in the area.“

“i’ve been there a handful of times over the past few years. i’ve always had a good experience. it’s not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and the quality here is quite good. i’d like to see an even more adventurous tap list, but they always do have a lot of unique items -- local/regional beers i can’t get in nyc.“

“Provisions has an up-market feel. It’s nicely laid out and everything is neatly displayed with hand-written labels. There’s a large wine selection and a great range of cheeses, cooked meats and other sundries such as chutneys, picked vegetables, savoury and sweet biscuits and chocolate. There’s also a very good choice of beers from near and far (local states, other parts of North America and Europe). The prices were very good - not at all inflated as they can be in stores like this. A really good find, and bang in the centre of town with parking outside. (Visited 30 October 2012).“

“I had dinner here last week while on vacation with the family, this was our second trip to this brewpub. Situated just outside of the main drag in Northampton this pub offers a huge bar as you first walk in with dimly lit tables and a small stage for live acts. One seating are on the other side of the bar as well as tables on the second floor and a rather large second floor deck with seating under the umbrella. A half a dozen or so house brews as well as a few carefully chosen guest taps make a nice tap selection. The food was pretty good, a step above pub grub without being too pretentious. I really enjoyed the spicy sausage flatbread. Service was a hint on the slow side, but it was an oddly busy Sunday night. Pricing was as I would expect for the quality offered, I would return.“

“Right now, this is impressive. 105 taps in a town of 30,000, not a bad per capita rate. Service was excellent during a down time, and the 105 beers on tap showed nice variety, ranging from Lost Abbey Madrugada to locals like Tree House to even a few internationals like Evil Twin. Food was standard American pub fare. Prices were competitive. Impressive addition. Nighttime ambiance is that of a college reunion... not great.“

“This is a gem in downtown Northampton. On the outside, it looks like a modernist interpretation of a ski lodge. The bar area is casual, with short leather chairs sprawled across the room. The dining room is high ceilinged with picture windows bringing in sunlight. The service is very good, the bar food isn’t bad and the beers are quite good.“

“Have eat and drank here many times, most recently May ’11. Long and thin venue with the bar taking up a good chunk of the left hand side as you enter, a little English pub feel to the set up. Have been here both for lunch and the evening and has been pretty packed on both occasions. Younger crowd in the evening, more couples and family groups during lunch as you’d probably expect. Decent selection of 30 + on tap, largely east coast stuff but good variety in styles. The one time we eat here the food was really good. The server made a mistake with one of the mains but left us the wrong main to share and didn’t charge for the correct one. That’s how to redeem a mistake and earned him a bigger tip than if he’d done his job properly - don’t ya love tipping culture in the US ! Well worth a visit.“

“Visited in April 2010. Big place on several levels. Busy and buzzing. Still managed to retain a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Reading previous reviews I wasn’t expecting too much excitement in the beer department but they seem to have stepped up their game. No crappy golden stuff at all and plenty of quality across the range of 10 of their brews I tried. Decent food. Much better than I was expecting and I’d certainly visit again.“

“I stopped in here to score some cheeses, of which they have a fantastic selection, and was really impressed with the beer selection. A good focus on limited release local and regional stuff, as well as good breadth in the German, English, and Belgian imports, including, for example Drie Fonteinen, which I don’t see everywhere. I don’t think there’s a better place to look for bottled beer to go in Northampton.“

“I can’t get excited to go to this place. And after visiting the Moan and Dove for the first time, I’m not sure I’m going to come back. I think the list selection is sloppy and not well thought out. The staff have always been curt and crabby. This feels mostly like a student bar that happens to have some craft-oriented beers on the menu.“

“Two level brew-pub with 15 or so taps. They usually have 10 dedicated to their own offerings and 3-5 for guest beers. Their black IPA was very good, but the others were nothing worth going out of the way for. Cozy space with good servers that don’t know much of anything about their own beer. I asked what style a beer on the board was and they looked at me like i was crazy and said "its dark."“

“Great local place with a ton of beer on tap. If you go in the off hours like I did the place is rather empty and the service is great. Nothing too rare to be found here but they definitely have their fair share of local favourites. Didn’t try the food but I’ve heard that it is pretty good. Prices are average to high, but not too bad.“

“I really love the building and how there have been so many different additions that you can go here 5 times and feel like youve been to 5 different brew pubs. Place is PACKED on Saturday evenings so be ready for slow service. Food is really great with a decently priced menu. Beer is average at best. Had a sampler and another beer and they were all mediocre. Ive gone in the winter and had better luck with the beers but i dont remember them that well. Overall a cool spot.“

“Hands down, this is, in my opinion, the best craft beer and dining experience in western mass. The tap list is constantly evolving so unless you go everyday, you’re almost always going to see a different tap list. The bottle list is quite impressive as well ( keeps up with specialty releases as best they can). The food of the Sierra Grille. . . unbelievable. I’ve never had a bad meal here. The staff seems to take an interest in helping you pick out any part of the meal if you ever have questions and their recommendations are always on point. My only negative about the experience is that its usually pretty dark. I’m not a fan of eating my meals with the lights real dim to the point I’m using the candle to choose my next beer. You’re going to spend a little more money here but you will have one of the best beer & food experiences around.“

“This is a nice bar with certainly above-average beer and it tries slightly less hard than some of the other beer bars in town. Nice selection on tap, bottle list used to be fantastic, but from what I remember has been dumbed down slightly. Always a lambic or two, and always something you didn’t expect. Can’t ask for much more.“
