Brick & Bourbon (Restaurant)
7887 ELM CREEK BLVD
“New restaurant and bar with craft beer and a wide array of mixed drinks. Typical sports bar atmosphere, with lots of TVs hanging on the wall, fairly loud conversations going on all around, etc. The food was really good and there was a lot of it. Nice tap selection and pretty good selection of bottles and cans, although their real focus is on whiskey, bourbon, and single malt scotch, as well as mixed drinks.“

“A pretty standard liquor store feel to the place. A bit disorganized but the employees know the beer pretty well. A solid selection with some singles available. No food on site. Prices are pretty competitive. Worth a stop if you are in the area.“

“A remind to those who preach place ratings are more about the place than the beer; don’t use 25% your place rating describing the beer. Lol. Anyway, seems like an isolated semi industrial location almost in Osseo. Taproom is nice lots of seating and a large patio. Service was friendly and engaging. Crowler available. Beer was forgettable to subpar. Not a bad stop if you’re in the area, wouldn’t go out of my way to return.“

“Another reminder to folks that Place ratings are more about the place than the beer. Nice place that checks all of the boxes you want in a taproom: ambiance, comfortable seating, attention to detail, outdoor patio, etc. There was some money spent on this place, and it is a more than a worthy taproom. The patio is nice, spacious and has a fire table for the cool days/evenings. Two larger flat screen TVs and a shuffle board table inside. Seating includes long, German beer hall-style tables and ample bar seating. I really like what they did with the space. From early beer ratings I’ve seen it appears clear that they have fixed some of the issues that may have plagued them initially. The Lake Day session ale and their new 11%+ imperial stout were good, and the Hopsessed Double IPA, while not quite true to style (drinks more like an American Strong) was pretty good too.The Hopfull IPA has a lot of promise but had some off notes. Breweries like Fulton and Sisyphus fixed their early issues to become really solid brewers, and if Omni can do so as well, with their space and location in the population dense Maple Grove area, they are positioned to really kill it. I will be back.“

“Renovated garage with a vibe of half industrial half woodsy. Large patio. The beers... Hoof. Man I had good hopes. The problems generally seem to be recipes, not like incomplete fermentation or infection. Couldn’t finish any of my samples. Might give them another try someday, but they need to figure out what they’re doing.“

“Similar to the other locations, maybe not as a well organized as Roseville. Prices are all over the board. I drove here from Cellars in Plymouth and it should be noted that Cellars beat their price on every beer and liquor I noticed. Service is there, if you ask for help.“

“Pretty typical for this chain. I went in shortly after the grand opening (this seems to be the best time to visit these stores as regards selection and in-stock items). Lots of interesting beers on the shelf. Some pretty good prices. Unfortunately, it seems like after a few months, these places don’t have near the selection they did on opening day. Prices are generally favorable.“

“Have been visiting this place once a week for the past year, since my daughter has dance down the street. Pretty nice store in comparison to other haskells all in my opinion have solid beer selections as well as everything else. Service is hit and miss, sometimes they will do whatever they can to get you something, weather it means transferring from another store or put your name down and call you if it shows up. I’ve had both happen for me, very welcoming. Today on the other hand just plain laziness, asked for a certain beer and they wondered for 10 minutes looking without once atempting to search their system. Waste of time. All in all its been a good outlet to kill time and buy beer.“

“I hope this place gets good, I really do. And they’ve just started, so I’ll gladly re-rate once they are more established. 4 mediocre to bad beers on today. Flights available - 4 for $10. Looks like it is a renovated garage area of an auto shop or something, but I don’t know the history of the building.“

“Been here twice and both times it was pretty crowded, especially the brunch; similar to other Granite Cities in the Twin Cities; servers seemed friendly even if they were not quite sure about the beer; food was good and the beer is okay; worth visiting if you are close“

“Their focus really is more on the wine and spirits, but they do have a few decent beers (found Ballast Point’s Sculpin here when I couldn’t find it elsewhere locally). Still, the liquor store here really is an afterthought to the grocery store and I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.“

“New store in Maple Grove. Specializes in wine, but nice beer selection. Prices on par with other area stores. Service could be a bit better. Still moving in to new location when I visited, so maybe I’ll have to give them another try in a few months.**Update on 3/19/2015** They’ve really expanded their beer selection. I found a bunch of things I’d been looking for--Surly Doomtree, 612 Brew beers, Bent Paddle Harness the Winter, etc. If they keep on like this, might become one of my favored beer destinations. **Re-Edit as of 12/1/23: This place has become my go-to for finding new and interesting beer. The prices might be a touch higher than elsewhere, but I've been finding new Drekker, beers from Other Half, Equilibrium, Mortalis(!), Burley Oak, Great Notion, Parish. Also very well-stocked with most of the latest releases from Barrel Theory and other local breweries. I spend way too much money here.**“

“Visited early on a Thursday evening. Solid selection of Minnesota and national craft, bunch of singles available. A bit light on foreign beers, though what they have is well chosen. The beer is in several coolers, spread around a bit, so it takes a bit of hunting to find what you are looking for. I didn’t ask for or receive help. Nice store, good option on this side of town.

76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Tap beer selection is very good. In the past they’ve tended to have just about everything Summit makes on tap. More lately that’s gone on to include a selection of Surly’s offerings. They have frequent beer releases or beer theme nights and have the distinction of being easily the best beer bar in this part of the metro. The bar itself is not huge, but there’s a separate dining area behind the bar that’s quite spacious. There’s also a nice outdoor patio during the warm weather months. If it weren’t for Three Squares, it would be slim pickens for Northwest Metro dwelling beer geeks.“

“Went here for sunday brunch and it was packed. Bartender was friendly, and the food was good. That’s where the compliments end. The only beer I saw on tap was their own brew, which wasn’t good. They may have macro bottles, but who cares?“

“Generic suburban restaurant and bar like in any strip mall. At first we were plopped in with about 25 families with crying babies, then we moved to the bar, which is where I recommend sitting at this place. The food was decent. The beer is very mediocre. This place is just for ratings whores, or, if, like us, you happen to pull up and there it is. But it’s no destination brewpub by any means. Very cheap flights available.“

“Have a few pretty decent tap beers, nothing too crazy. Been here quite a few times with the family. Food is good if you stick with burgers/sandwiches/etc. You can try all the different beers they offer and the mug club is a good deal if you frequent any of their locations.“

“They have a solid selection on tap, for Maple Grove. The comfort food is good. This restaurant is part of a small chain and all of them are solid. The manager asked for recommendations on beers to add. One of the better options in this part of town for a unique dining experience, otherwide take your pick of mediocre chain restaurants.“

“Pretty good neighborhood restaurant, with a very nice beer list, which is rather small, but continually updated with new and interesting additions. Menu has breakfast, lunch, and dinner items that are all available at any time of the day. Service is generally okay. The food is good. Food prices are a bit on the high side and I wish the food was actually hot, just once, not merely warm. Ambiance of the place is comfortable. They’ve hosted beer tastings and similar events. In the summer, they have a nice streetside patio.“

“Good sized store with a decent selection of craft beer. Maybe better than average selection of specialty imports, but much of the warm domestic craft shelves were taken up by singles of 4/6pk offerings. I don’t think any of the 3 people working - who stood at the counter the entire time I was there and talked to each other - ever even flinched to see if I needed help or had questions, though. More to choose from than many liquor stores, but I also know a few better places to go, too.“

“One of my two go to stores in the Twin Cities for beer. Great selection, super friendly staff and overall fantastic beer buying experience. I love being able to mix my own six pack of singles, very nice option when you want to try a bunch of beers without spending a lot of money. If Bill’s there, make sure you ask him for recommendations. He knows his stuff and is a very cool dude.“

“A lot of good beers to be found here. Picked up a Hopsickle and Deschutes Hop In the Dark tonight. Will be returning to gather some of the many other brews I haven’t had. They have Great Lakes, Deschutes, Victory, Avery, and many other very good breweries. They also have some more rare finds and local stuff. Surly and Dark Horse can be found here as well.“

“I stayed in a hotel for about a month by here and used to go in all the time. The staff was really friendly and let me totally customize what I wanted. The beers are ok but nothing out of this world. The staff is not really knowledgeable about craft beers in particular but overall not a bad place to go. “Can’t compete with bars that offer wide selections of craft beers but their own beers that they do offer are a nice variety anyway. The options are very sufficient to go with most of the food that they offer. The food is definitely the reason to go here. Very wide array which is nice if one person in your party wants Italian, one wants Mexican, one wants steak and one wants pizza. Your best bet is to go here on a Monday night when you can sign up for the mug club for a half price cost of only $10.“

“Clean, friendly environment with comfortable seeting and televisions displaying the Twins game. Large windows displayed the brewing kettles which was interesting. Service was attentive and friendly though a bit clumsy. Food was quite good: I ordered the chicken parmesan which was excellent. Their brews are ok, though I agree that many of the servers know very little about the beer. It was a bit crowded for a Thursday evening also. Wroth a try for sure.“

“ Finally I get to do some reviews tonight from my last trip to the Cities. I have wanted to get to Bill’s store for a while now. As from reading the boards I know he’s been building a craft beer store on the west side of the Cites. Bill has done a great job of collecting all the staple items and obtaining some of the hard to find items, that are always seen at the prime beer locations in MN (Dennis Bros, Blue Max and Zipps). His store is clean which means that things rotate. He has all the usually brew plus some surprise find that have already been sold out in the Cities. If I get back to the west side, this will be my drive to choice other that, US Wines or the The Four Firkins. I hope next time I come in, I can meet you Bill, till then keep up the good work.“

“Very nice, small, family-owned store. They’re trying to develop a craft beer operation, with tastings and a newsletter, etc., and though it’s starting out small, they’re sticking with it. Excellent service. The selection is rather on the small side, though not bad for the north metro area. Definitely worth checking out.**Updated 6/2/2022: Awesome selection. Today, I actually found 2 different 4 packs from Vitamin Sea, a Boston-area brewery, as well as some Equilibrium, not to mention several varieties of Drekker.“

“I was skeptical by an entry like this, especially as number of beers were not listed. But they do in fact have some beers like Fish Tale and Plank that are kind of rare for the Twin Cities. It is a very nice store just off the Bass Lake rd. exit on 494. Not a very large selection, but there is enough if you are in the area. I saw a sign saying they have tastings. Employees were friendly and several offered to help. It seems to be a family business. The selection of craft beers is maybe 75-100, if you include the Summits and Sierra Nevadas.“

“My 1st official trip to this GC; the 1st time I tried to go there was shortly after they opened & we couldn’t get a table. Sat in the patio which is almost perfectly situated on the North side of the building which gets a good dose of sun in the evening. Very pleasant, upscale interior. Large window displays the brewing kettles, so you know you are in a brewpub. The service was very attentive & I must have counted over a dozen different servers come out to the patio between 4:30-7:30. Never had to wait to order a beer. Which leads me to the beer. I echo badgerben’s comments in that it is avg. Head brewmaster, Bill Burdick, owned the highly acclaimed Sherlock’s Home in Minnetonka which strangely closed a couple of yrs ago, despite seemingly always being full and offering unique, quality food & beer product. Given the fact that Sherlock’s had a solid stable of excellent beers, I find it puzzling that GC doesn’t have a single stand out beer in their lineup, which has not changed one iota in the 4 years since I 1st visited a GC. Their idea of new beers is to mix 2 of them together. I am wary of any brewpub that does that; it is a clear statement that "our beers aren’t good enough on their own." And true enough, the IPA-Maibock mix is better than either individually. It appears Mr. Burdick sold out for profitability’s sake, which has been a real loss to the craft beer community.“
