“Just a few minutes from Firestone Walker, this is an older school place that's a bit more intimate. A dozen+ beers on tap with custom flights of 4 available for $12 plus tax (preset flights for $10). They had a couple barrel aged beers when I visited, but neither were particularly well-made. I enjoyed their hoppier beers more. Friendly service, and comfortable inside and outside seating, though a bit grungier. Not a mandatory stop at this point, but worth a look if you have time.“

“This barrel room is just off to the side of the main area, so not sure it really deserves its own listing. They have additional taps here, including vintage releases. They also have a fridge of a lot of their barrel aged stuff, as well as vintage bottles from years ago, but you'll pay a steep price (e.g., $100 for a Firestone Walker 13). Worth a look after visiting the main area.“

“This place is every bit as awesome as their Paso Robles location, with extensive seating inside and outside. You order by QR code or at the counter. 3 oz pours available of everything on tap for $1.75-3.75 like all locations, with an extensive taplist, including lots of barrel aged stuff. Service is top-notch, going above and beyond to help. Can't say enough good things about Firestone Walker's establishments. Even if you've visited the other location(s), this is a mandatory visit.“

Parkway Market (Beer Store)

“Parkway Market in Buellton is a quite typical liquor store. It has pretty decent beer selection especially focusing on Californian microbrews. No single 12oz. If you have already checked Firestone Walker and Figueroa Mountain, have a look. At least I found couple of interesting local bombers.“

“Came in the early afternoon. The taproom had some guests, but just several people in barrelworks section so we almost had the place for ourselves. Liked the industrial and wooden interior overviewing the barrel storage facility. The whole venue is quite big but thanks to good interior design and separate areas doesn’t fell overwhelming. 11 wild ales and 6 strong ales on, some special release bottles in the fridge. The attached taproom had 15 taps of their regular and hoppy beers so everything is covered. Quality of beers is very good to excellent. Flights available. We had ribs and steak, both were fantastic. Very good service. One of the best beer places I’ve been to.“

“Stopped here after Firestone Walker which may have been a bad idea. Place was cramped, but still attractive. Had a sampler of beers and some pretzels. Different but not all that memorable.“

“Visited on a cold, wet Monday afternoon. The Barrelworks bar is off to the side of the main restaurant/bar area. I went in only to pick up some bottles and did not drink at the bar. Taps: 10 wild ales and eight strong ales. Some recent-year vintages available, too. Variable pricing. Bottles in a small cooler. Friendly, informed bartender, who answered my questions fully, and then let me wander around and make purchasing decisions on my own. Had to listen to (or rather overhear) some loud corporate-speak from a few visiting reps at the bar. Anyway, this is certainly the best place to sample or pick up bottles of very limited FSW beers -- things that will probably never show up at your neighborhood bar or beer store.“

“We were taken here by our tour. I liked it the best cause the other three stops were wineries. Most people in our group had the lighter beer sampler. Andy had the Dark sampler(which I had some of) I chose the IPA sampler and changed out one IPA for a stout. Great DIPA’s and the stout! No crowd in middle of a Thursday afternoon. The women in our group did not like smelling the open brewing process while sampling the flights of beer.“

“Nice dark-wood pub feel in the taproom right next to the tanks. Many of their widely distributed varieties available, but also Half a dozen that are not available anywhere. No food beyond peanuts and chips. Very friendly and helpful service. Extra points for letting me in before they were really open for business.“

“Stopped here on a Sunday night to hook up with SamGamgee. Had not been here before but have had the sours along with many of the regular FW lineup. The bartender, Melissa was very helpful and knowledgeable, as we arrived first. Sampled most of the sours that we had not tried, the wine blends were amazing. Moved over to the restaurant side for dinner along with regular beers. Service there was very good also. The bottle selection was pretty wiped out being Sunday. Overall a worthwhile experience, worth the trek.“

“Visited after some locals I met the day before told me I should check it out. Awesoe ambiance, old school wooden pub built inside the brewery, right next to the tanks. The service is friendly and the people are passionate about their beer. Prices are good, you can get flights. The beer is solid, not too special though. Definitely recommended if you’re on your way through Buellton or here anyway for Firestone Barrelworks.“

“Easy to find as Buellton is not a huge city. Parking in front. Big restaurant with good selection of FW brews. Barrelworks was unfortunately closed at the time we visited the place. Friendly service, tasty food and decent prices. The giftshop was really small.“

“hard to separate this place (or atleast not give it a little nudge upward) because it’s connected to but separate from Barrelworks, which is one cool friggin place. The rest is nearly identical to the restaurant in Paso. Good stuff!“

Comments: An incredible place worth great lengths to visit...this is a specialty tasting room that focuses on FW specialty one-offs like their sours, anniversary blends, components of their sours and anniversary blends, experimental offerings. Everything on tap was very good to outstanding...most are available on tap only or for sale in special release bottles. This is an incredible place to savor a large variety of FW’s best and rarest beers and none of them dissapointed. You can walk away with bottles to go including cellared anniversary bottles all the way back to FW15 ($90), FW16 ($75), FW17 ($50), FW18 ($25). Bottleworks Lil Opal also for sale. Overall, do not miss and double check their opening hours as they are NOT the same as the brewpub attached. “

Comments: Enormous facility that holds FW Barrelworks, a separate place entity, plus two large casual dining rooms, a smaller central bar, and a tiny to-go store for merchandise and beer. Full menu with around 40 options ranging from mac n cheese and buffalo wings to large entrees like flatbreads. Our server knew the beers on tap perfectly and was very helpful...obviously very well trained on the beers and the menu. Food prices seemed a tad high for being in the middle of nowhere, but obviously this place is super popular for the residents in Solvang I’m guessing, so prices were a tad higher than expected. Beers were normal to cheap though. “

“Visited May 17, 2014.

FINALLY made it in. Been trying to go for several years and they have these really crappy hours which makes it tough to stop in if you’re just passing through town. The one time (before) that I actually did get there during business hours they were closed for some event. And to top it off, when I made it in May they shut the bar down early due to the Bretta Rose release. Really? I strolled in an hour before closing and there was no line. I could buy as many cases of Bretta as I wanted (I got several) but they wouldn’t serve me a drink. The only line was for the one and only bathroom. Natrually they apologized for not wanting my business. I signed the credit card bill, took my boxes of beer, and ran out the door to find a bathroom. A tree would have done but there were a lot of people out in the parking lot, so I took off for the McDonalds down the street. This was about the extent of my visit. Ironically this was the same McDonalds that I went to after they ignored us for 30 minutes at their restaurant next door on a prior visit. I don’t get these people.“

“Meget sterilt i dens udformning med masser af polerede metalflader. Når Barrelworks ikke er åben er udvalget ikke kæmpe stort. Tasterne er fine nok men der mangler lidt i forhold til hvor søde og rare bryggerne var på CBC.“

“We visited this place 17.5.2014. When we arrived at 5.30 pm they told us we cannot be served anymore as they are closing earlier today although they officially close at 6pm. Great customer focus!!!! I love Firestone beers, however this was the worst customer experience I had during my 350 visits to beer bars/breweries so far. They just did not care!“

“Ambiance was pretty upscale, but very nice. Wait staff was really not happy to be there it seemed and were not knowledgeable about the beer. Selection was great, got to try Parabola on tap! Value was so-so. Overall, could have been a great experience with a different wait staff.“

“Our last stop on our drive to SD. Atmosphere was awesome, you can get a beer and take a walk through the barrel room or just sit at one of the tables or bar chairs. Service was solid. I never had to wait for a beer and the bartender was great to talk to, especially being a fellow cicerone. Selection was excellent. 10-11 specialty beers on, spilt down the middle between sours and dark beers, most of which never leave the premises. Prices on the beers were fine, $2-3 depending on which beer you order. Overall a really nice showpiece for the breweries barrel program. I wish more breweries did something like this with their barrel rooms, it is such a cool space to have a beer in.“

“Our last stop on our drive to SD. I was mainly stopping to check out the barrel works but we decided to stay for dinner so I got to check out both. Atmosphere in the taproom was good. It was packed with people but it still had a good vide. Quality across the board was quite good. Lots of great touches helped to make it feel welcoming but don’t detract from the overall atmosphere. Service was solid, I never had to wait for a beer. Selection was solid. They had all of the staples on as expected. Food was pretty good. I got a burger and it was cooked how as I asked and tasted good. Prices on the beers were fine, food was definitely overpriced on nearly all of the dishes. Overall a really nice showpiece for a great brewery. Glad we could stop and check it out.“

“My second visit. Cold in the tasting room. Filled with newly minted beer drinkers who are kind of loud. Bumping the ambiance up a bit based on wandering around in the barrel room itself, which is really cool. Lots of beer on tap - their strong ales are really superb.“

“A very nice restaurant with the ability to be high end or casual. Food is high end, but I found it flavorless and lacking. Beer is all their own, with a library of old beers you can drink onsite for a premium. In all it wasn’t that great for me, I preferred their brewery store across the street.“

“Latest stop was the day after the XVII release party, been here many times, figured it was time. Have sat in the restaurant and bar, prefer the bar for food and drinks. Wookey Jack and Taproom IPA this time, along with excellent calimari and the Trio of fries. Service was very good too. Love the interior with the bottling line going round and round, and several tv’s for viewing. The main room of the restaurant is a bit to spacious for me, making it on the noisy side...might as well sit in the bar.“

“Stopped in on a Thursday evening on the drive back from San Diego. Dining room is large and was a bit noisy, even with plenty of open tables. Must be ridiculously loud when packed. Seated immediately. Service was quick and our server was very friendly. Our food arrived surprisingly quickly, was pretty tasty and were good sized portions. Didn’t realize the "Taproom" IPA and brown we had are the renamed Nectar Ales. Not bad regardless. Also had Velvet Merkin and Oaktoberfest. Glad we finally gave the place a shot.“

“The place is a bit noisy, but looks cool. Mostly quick service as well. We got a lot of new beers, and a hearthy, delicious meal, and in general we had a blast here and in the barrel room. Did the barrel room first, which I highly recommend.“

“The tap room itself isn’t very exiting, but nice anyway. Knowing that there’s lots of barrels in the backroom though, that’s cool. Any you can enter the barrel room too. We had friendly and quick service, the prices are a bit steep I think, but then the beers are mostly fantastic. Be sure to stop by if you’re near.“

“26 July 2013. Located in a small room in the Buelton FSW taprooms. The only down side is that the Barrelworks and the taprooms are separate entities so you pay one tab before moving to the second location. Barrelworks is staffed entirely by cicerones who know beer. They may have been overly chatty with regulars but that's part of the game. Small location made for a cozy atmosphere. Amazing beer made it perfect. Had about 10 beers, all served in 3 oz pours and priced at $3-$4 apiece.“

“26 July 2013. Nice place. Service for lunch was initially hard to procure but once they noticed us they were very friendly. Good was great and while it seemed expensive at first, even for the small portions, the portions were a bit large (even the small portions!). Tap selections were mainly the standard FSW series. Also, there is inside and outside seating. Place looks great and outside patio was very nice.“
