60 /100 Globe (JDW) (Bar) TUESDAY MARKET PLACE Tropical Spoons pub. Free WiFi. Unlimited coffee for 1.50. Too early for a beer (1pm). |
72 /100 Nip & Growler Ale House (Bar) 68 HIGH STREET On the High Street, in a former shop, or that's what it looks like. Scruffy but characterful interior, looks old but isn't. Small serving bar and a bunch of restaurant tables, view of the passers by. Twelve taps, almost all from East Anglia, and all craft, plus a small fridge of bottles to drink in or take away. Friendly staff and plenty of regulars. No food. A nice addition to the local beer scene. |
60 /100 Globe (JDW) (Bar) TUESDAY MARKET PLACE Large Wetherspoons with decent rooms above in the centre of King Lynn on the corner of Tuesday Market Place. Reasonable choices of beers |
68 /100 Live & Let Live (Bar) 18 WINDSOR STREET Traditional back street boozer off the London Road, decked out in England colours, St Georges Cross flags covering the front. It's friendly inside, rooms to the front and rear with a small courtyard seating area to the rear. A reasonable range of beer on cask to be had. Worth the walk out of town. |
60 /100 Wenn's Chop & Ale House (Restaurant) 9 SATURDAY MARKET PLACE This is quite a smart Restaurant type establishment that is happy just to serve beer. Plenty of seating both indoors and at the front with a pleasant view of the church. Just a few beers on hand pump but with a local feel to them, so a reasonable chance of a winner. Covid precautions are sensible and table service is okay, you can at least go and see the pump clips. Had to return beers to heve them changed though. Reasonable plastic glasses for outdoors. |
86 /100 Nip & Growler Ale House (Bar) 68 HIGH STREET This was a cracking find by searching through Whatpub and reading between the lines. Larger than a Micro Pub but run on similar principles but with a Keykeg only policy. Friendly and chatty, once the Covid precautions have been adhered to, you find your table and order from a chalk board, just one little gripe here, they list the beer names, style, ABV but not the Brewer name, so when someone like me comes along it's a case of having to ask questions about each beer as mostly the beers are unusual and interesting. There were 6 beers available and I needed 5 of them, 4 ciders all new to us. It is a single room converted ex camera shop, decorated in the shabby not quite chic style currently in favour, lots of memorabilia on the walls. A few tables and chairs across the front but also they supply beer to the tables set up in the Tuesday Market Place (Not just Tuesday's despite the name) which is a terrific addition and commitment. The beer range is excellent and varied, the service top notch. Has to be the best pub in North West Norfolk now for our needs, worth seeking out. |
34 /100 Globe (JDW) (Bar) TUESDAY MARKET PLACE Large Wetherspoons in the centre of Lynn, very busy on a Sunday lunchtime, there is a smoke haze to get through to enter, then the QR entry register, which I doubt many actually follow. Bustling inside but tables available. Slow service so ordered by app. Nothing in the way of new beers or much interesting. |
60 /100 Lord Napier (Bar) 5 GUANOCK TERRACE Noisy one room pub with lively locals, music blaring and large screens showing the latest sports. In fairness though I visited 10.30pm on a Friday night, it might be quieter during the day. Four cask beers on offer, nothing too exciting (Tribute, Ghost Ship etc) but I managed to pick up one new tick. |
60 /100 London Porterhouse (Bar) 78 LONDON ROAD One room locals pub offering three cask beers. Nothing very exciting but the Broadside was on good form on my visit. Woodfordes Wherry is a permanent beer here |
68 /100 Live & Let Live (Bar) 18 WINDSOR STREET Old fashioned two room back street locals pub offering around six mainly local cask beers, including rarely seen Greene King XX Mild. Other choices included beers from Lacons, Norfolk Brewhouse & Woodfordes on my visit |
60 /100 Globe (JDW) (Bar) TUESDAY MARKET PLACE Large wetherspoons just off Tuesday market square staff are excellent beer choice when I visited was not that good but the quality was OK. The beer garden at the rear of the building was well kept and enormous. We were told by the receptionist that it could be noisy at weekend. |
