UPDATED: JAN 27, 2020 Bottle. Bitter and dry imperial stout, light sweet, Chocolate liqueur, chocolate cream, lots of roast, leather furniture, cigar, earth, wafers. Full bodied, creamy, very bitter. Superb.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2019 Draught at Panema. Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, chocolate, alcohol and nuts. Bitter finish with roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, alcohol and a bit of chocolate. Not great.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2019 Si cette 08/02 a une qualité, ce sont bien ces arômes francs et intenses de café, chocolat et caramel. Quoique, si cela est bien le cas en seconde bouche, l’attaque et le final sont plus discrets. Ce qui est plus surprenant. Ce sont un peu les montagnes russes. En terme de complexité, vous repasserez également. L’ensemble est cependant agréable et cette Brew By Numbers respecte la tradition de ces stouts anglo-saxons à l’huile de moteur. D’ailleurs, de couleur, nous nous en rapprochons avec un noir total, avec une effervescence très faible ne donnant naissance à aucune mousse. Le nez est franc et intense : café, chocolat et caramel : simples mais très efficace. L’attaque est peu aromatique, on y retrouve du café, du caramel et du poivre, mais peu intenses. C’est vraiment à la deuxième bouche que cet imperial stout se révèle avec une présence en bouche qui devient excellente sur des arômes simples, mais avec une belle tension. Cela retombe cependant trop vite en intensité avec une longueur cependant appréciable. L’arrière bouche, peu ample est également moins intéressante. L’équilibre est plutôt bien trouvé, pas trop chargée en sucre, les 9,9 % soutiennent bien els arômes en seconde bouche avant de disparaître avec l’ensemble. L’amertume, relativement poussée est un brin sèche. Dommage donc que cette huile ne tienne pas les km !

Rich malty taste, dark chocolate, tar and liquorice, smooth & creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonated, light bitter dry herbal liquorice finish, very good one

330 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 9.9%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Moderate roasty aroma, notes of roast malts, cigar box, exotic woodwork, oak, dark chocolate and coffee. Distinctly roasty flavour, notes of dark bitter chocolate and strong coffee, distinct bittering hops, hints of liquorice. Good beer.

Draft sample @ Tilquin English Beerfest 2018. Brune foncée, col crémeux quasi moka, le tout sur un léger huileux doré au verre. Arôme offre un bouquet épais au niveau des effluves de grains, caramel, chocolaté, note d'avoine? café léger avce une amertume très discrète en rétro-nasal. Palais est épais, malté proche de la mélasse, soja, grillé et café tirant vers espresso; chocolaté noir amer avec une effervescence faible. Impression de cet effet cold brewed coffee.

9.9%. Cloudy jet black with a small, frothy, dark beige head; little lacing. Intense aroma of roasted malt, milk chocolate, mocha, coffee cream, mocha ice cream, coffee roast, some figs. It tastes light to medium malty & chocolatey sweet, hints of fondant, nuts & vanilla, and light to medium roasted bitter, some coffee roast & mocha. Toasty, dry finish with some herbal hops, lingering fondant & coffee; warming whisky or liqueur alcohol, but well-hidden. Full body, thick oily texture, soft to flat carbonation. A straightforward Imperial Stout, but simply superb!
