Maris (3428) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - OCT 20, 2022
UPDATED: OCT 20, 2022 From a 375ml can (2021 vintage, abv 13.5%) on 20/10/2022 (shared with Butz). Pours near black with zero head. Has a huge boozy, dark dried fruit nose. Tastes super vinous - sour red grape skin, blackcurrant, and unripe blackberries, prunes and raisins. Finishes hot, boozy and a bit harsh, with a sharp lingering sour coating the back of the throat. Has an oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Has a big rep, but I found this just really messy and quite hard to drink tbh. Sounds like quite a different beer to some of the earlier versions. More red wine than beer for mine.

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2020 From bottle (Dec. 2018 vintage) just on cool in porter glass. Pours near black w/fleeting light tan head, aroma of choc, dried fruit, a touch of leather & tobacco. Rich sweet taste w/mellow bitterness that struggles to keep up, very good.

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2020 Heavy notes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Very strong at 12.5%, but you don't feel the bitterness like other strong ones.

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2019 One of the 'richest' RIS I've ever wrapped my lips around. An intense deep, dark colour, beckoning with a slick, smooth come hither voice and sweet, rich bourbon flavours. An experience to savour.

CurlyJoe (731) - AUSTRALIA - JAN 16, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 16, 2019 Black as can be, brown creamy head. Aroma of fruit and nut dark chocolate. Smells more like chocolate than beer. Big imperial stout taste, sharp and bitter. But then rounds out to a very smooth velvety finish. Boozy, but manageable. A sipper.

the_beergery (924) - - JUL 14, 2018
UPDATED: JUL 14, 2018 330 ml bottle at the new watering hole The Keep and Commune on South Bridge Road in Singapore. This is the December 2017 vintage aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Appearance is a clear but deep mahagony colored pour with no head at all. Aroma is chocolate and cocoa when cold, with notes of bourbon, roasted malts and vanilla as it warms. Taste is similar, sweet rich thick dark chocolates, some booziness from the bourbon, dark dried fruits, vanilla. Interestingly, roasted malt tastes are minimal, and almost no coffee. Alcohol becomes more apparent when it warms, but is always well concealed in the background. Full bodied, slick and oily, though a little less carbonation would enhance the slickness.
