COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Vintage 2008. Beige head, lasting some 2-3 minutes before gradually dissapearing. Nose: Roast coffee, dark malt and quite a bit of the typical "bottle aged porter nose" (not a big compliment). Not much complexity or finesse here. Taste & palate: Medium to medium light body - a bit light for a porter. Decent freshness and acidity in the attack and some slight sweetness (off dry) in the aftertaste but again lacking some body to quite balance it out fully. Somewhat burnt taste to it. A not quite balanced porter with a certain freshness to it which at 6 years is keeping up well but also doesn’t promise much more in the way of further development - drink rather than hold. It’s freshness is actually the main thing this beer has going for it and after all that means there should be a number of foods it might pair well with.

Erzengel (14473) - Saarland & Düsseldorf, GERMANY - OCT 1, 2013
Rating from 2008 with Årgång 2008. Klasse Bier!! --> 12,15,12,14,12,15 - 13,95

Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, dry. Black colour, beige head. Same notes as in the nose flavourwise, but they don’t excite me. Average mouthfeel. Boring but drinkable.

FatPhil (26157) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - DEC 7, 2011
330ml bottle (Systembolaget, Stockholm) - 2008 version, BB2018, drunk 2011/10.
7 Slightly gluey esters and ketones on pouring. In the glass it’s a sweet rich roast with some caramel, and a whole pile of dark berries - blackcurrent and blackberry.
4 Dark, brief tan head. A little fizzy and brief.
7- Toffee retronasals. Liquoricecy burnt body, fairly fruity esters, quite dominated by the burntness.
4 Quite thin palate, but that’s OK, as it makes it less slicky. Pleasant carbonation, sometimes moussey in the mouth. Finish is burnt, dry, and a little dirty. Some bitter bite has survived 3 years of ageing too, so just a bit of a tingle. Some milkiness in there too.
14 Good, but not great, blatic porter. Not so exciting, but pretty drinkable to Anna. I like it though, it’s a good decent roast without being astringent.
Not sure when to drink the 2007 bottle...
