Buxton Rain Shadow 2023 Single Barrel (Rum)
Bottle 330ml (BB:28/02/2033); Definitely getting rum on the aroma (aswell as rich dark chocolate, caramel and coffee). Spot lacing. Pitch black with a tan coloured head. Thick pour. On the taste the rum barrel aging isn't overwhelming, but in fact perfectly balanced IMHO. Tastes like the coffee cream you used to get in Christmas tins. Really like this. Buxton Brewery Company are a great brewery

Buxton Rain Shadow 2023 Single Barrel (Rum)
Bottle. Nose is chocolate, fruit cake, chocolate ice cream, hint of vanilla, as it opens up the rum becomes very pronounced. Subtle notes of marzipan and cherry. Taste is dark chocolate, chocolate ice cream, fruit cake, slightly smokey, woody, peppery boozy bitterness that prevents it being cloying with the rum really clear in the final notes. Leading to cherry, and chocolate with the finish being dry chocolate and smoke. Exceptionally well balanced for an Imperial Stouts which are now usually a cloying sugar gloop. A few years since I've had a rain shadow, and its as superb as I remember.

On tap at The Scrapyard. By far not bitter (or hoppy) enough for a west coast, shows some honey-barley sweetness, a hint of grassy-herbal hops, but no punchy hoppyness or pronounced bitterness

Canned, 440ml from Beer52, Edinburgh. Hazy orange gold with white head. This proved to be a light, quite fresh beer with notes of sweetish berried fruits. Touches of strawberry and raspberry then grapefruit and lemon. Light on the palate throughout. It's fine.

Buxton Double Back NZ Session IPA
0,44L can bought from Buxton Brewery Trackside at Buxton, UK. Aroma: Moderately-strong peach, nectarine, stone fruits, lime, and lemony hops, plus sweet pineapple and candied orange. Subtle piney and passionfruit notes, too. Appearance: Pours a hazy light-yellow golden colour with a small-medium soapy white head that has moderate retention and leaves good lacing. Taste: Starts with moderately-light sweetness of peach and tropical sweet fruits. Moderately-light tangy, tropical fruitiness. Light bitterness of citrusy and piney hops. Palate: Slick and soft texture. Moderate carbonation. Finish is quite dry with a lightly bitter piney, peachy and lemony aftertaste. Light astringency. Overall: A highly drinkable, tropical and fruity session IPA with a slightly sweet touch of floral hops. The new Buxton Trackside beer garden is delightful with gorgeous views, plenty of indoor and outdoor space plus a wide range of beers to drink on tap or to take away. Hope the future of the brewery is safeguarded with its new owner and continue brewing good beers.

Buxton / Omnipollo Yellow Belly Scotch Sundae
Bottle ordered from Buxton online shop and delivered to my dad's and picked up when I was in the UK over Easter. Had this at home Thursday 30th May 2024 listening to ByteFM in bed after a Pork and Lemongrass Meatballs with a Thai Sauce and Rice. Pours black with a slim tan head. As one would expect the peanut butter dominates the nose but there are some whisky notes and a vanilla oaky edge. I really don't recall the other variants being so full on sweet, maybe it's just this batch? Peanut butter and chocolate in the mouth along with caramel and toffee, but the whisky is strangely somewhat muted. There is a very subtle bitterness and the mouthfeel and carbonation work well. All told I am a little bit disappointed with this variant, it really struggled to hit the high notes and the sweetness seemed to drown out all else.

Can from Beer52. Semi hazed gold with white head, decent retention. Aroma of mango, grapefruit, some flora and a touch of bubble-gum confectionery. Taste includes the confectionery with a floral resin and mango with a hint of zest in the finish. Low bitterness. Near medium bodied, refreshing. Pleasant drinkability on repeated sips where the fruitiness comes through more. It grew on me a lot. [Hops: Olicana]

0,44L can bought at Buxton Brewery, Buxton, UK. Aroma: Moderate citrus, grapefruit, orange peel and piney hops. Subtle earthy and grassy hops, and mild esters. Appearance: Pours an translucent deep golden colour with a medium foamy white head that has rather good retention and lacing. Taste: Moderate bitterness of grapefruity, pithy, piney and orange peel hops. Moderately low sweetness of biscuity and caramel malts. Light sweet yeasty ester, which I found in other Buxton's ale as well. Palate: Medium body with a moderate to high carbonation. Soft, slick texture with a slightly pithy and grapefruit bitter finish. Overall: Fairly pleasant, balanced and fresh to make it a highly drinkable and hoppy west coast IPA. Another decent and sessionable ale from Buxton.

Hazy golden white head A - slight floral & tropical but with an odd slightly rubbery balloon aroma F - floral, theres a bit of tropical mango etc but not very prominent I wouldnt say that this is on par with the US hops in terms of fruitiness, which is a shame.

Can. HOTM online. Opaque medium gold. Decent Buxton swede. Squeezed orange up front. Some oaty notes. Touch of earthy hop leaf. Taste has the customary Buxton bitterness with a wheaty sweetness. Medium body feels a touch flabby. Fine carbonation. Pithy bitter finish. Not a deal going off here, and I could very well be wrong obvs, but I get the feeling this is a re-badged beer.
