22 oz. bottle from a trade shared with drsordr and Corey. Pours a caramel color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits, a hint of tomato juice on the nose, oxidation, too sweet and old to show any of the abv, I probably had this too long.

DuClaw Sweet Baby Java
Pours cola brown into snifter. Moderate tan head that slowly dissipates. Strong nose of malts, dark bread and chocolate. A bit of coffee. Mystery element must be the peanut butter but it doesn’t smell like peanut butter to me. Not that it should. First sip brings in strong coffee taste with a moderate malty backbone with chocolate. The peanut butter lends a unique mellow cast…. not overbearing. Aftermath is more dry than sweet. Reminds me of Founders KBS without the KBS if that makes sense. A surprisingly pleasant brew, especially if you like coffee influenced porters.

DuClaw Turn West
Perfectly clear deep copper coloured body with some light movement down below, but no real head, as the can seemed to lack pressure after a few weeks (but was more solid when I bought it!). Aroma of light grainy malts, toffee, caramelised sugars with a hint of apricots and peaches here as well, but the malts seem strongest in the nose, with some hops here, too. Medium-bodied; Fairly rich caramelised sugars and light toffee notes show at first with some hop bitterness right behind that's a bit nutty and herbal, all bringing out a kick of the stone fruits and some smoother earthy and rustic malts here, which hit nicely at the end. Aftertaste is crisp, very malt-centric with a good level of both stone fruits and caramel with a rustic quality that also has a lot of bitterness from the hops - nice across the board. Overall, this is a pure older school East Coast (much maltier, grainier) IPA with no signs of anything West Coast at all. Not sure why this seemed to lose carbonation/structure of the can, but good to try - that's it - not worth finding or buying as there are much better options out there! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from The Sperryville Corner Store in Sperryville, Virginia on 09-July-2022 for US$4,69 sampled at my house here in Washington on 22-August-2022.

DuClaw Sweet Baby Swirl!
12 oz. can from Total Wine. Pours a cloudy orange-gold color with a small off-white head and fair retention. Almost no lacing. Good peanut butter aroma. Light peanut butter flavor with a light vanilla finish. I don’t taste any chocolate or coffee notes. It's a nice sweet stout, but Sweet Baby Jesus is far superior, so this is kinda disappointing. Thin body for a stout. Medium carbonation, which is above average for stouts. Not bitter.

12 oz can poured into a shaker- poured a slightly murky copper with sunfaded brown color for a background, one finger white head formed and laced nicely upon the vessel. Aroma of grapefruit, funk, and watermelon. Hits the mouth with a light body, the malt has watermelon intertwined at the first impression, middle has some funk to it, finish has a slight acidity and notes of plums in the background. Not bad.

Pours hazy reddish cinnamon with a thick though not long-lasting beige head. Aroma offers blueberry, currant, hints of raspberry and vanilla. Flavor supplies tangy blueberry, vanilla, currant, a touch of raspberry. Texture delivers good body and peppy fizz. I give a lot more than a crap about good beer.

Sweeter than I like, but not cloying, so I can appreciate the direction their going with this pint, even if I’m not crazy about the results. Chocolate and coconut are on the forefront, while a moderate caramel sweetness brings up the rear. Finishes with coconut and caramel and a subtle bitterness. Not bad.

Can. Light grain and hay for the malt, moderate dankness and pine for the hops, slight musty for the yeast, with citrus and melon in the background. Head is small, fizzy/bubbly, white with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is slightly hazy medium amber. Flavor starts faintly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery, with a fizzy carbonation and a lightly tart and dry finish. Pretty damn good Flavored IPA, without and overpowering existence of fruit.

DuClaw Sweet Baby Java
12 oz. can, 6.2% ABV, CANNED ON: 11/15/22 AROMA: I'm first hit with strong scents of peanut butter, moderate scents of chocolate, and lastly, mild scents of coffee . The aroma is very inviting and makes me want to dive right in! It should be noted that I have also tried the brewer's Sweet Baby Jesus! beer. In comparison, I find that this beer (Sweet Baby Java) has much stronger scents of peanut butter. APPEARANCE: Pours an opaque black with a medium-tall, dirty tan head, that dissipates slowly and has moderate lacing. This is your classic porter look. TASTE: Moderately sweet with predominant flavors of peanut butter and chocolate, with a touch of coffee on the backend. I find the sweetness level to be perfect for this type of beer. It really helps to play up the peanut butter flavor, yet there's enough bitterness to remind you that you're drinking a beer and not a soft drink. MOUTHFEEL: Full bodied with a somewhat creamy texture, and average carbonation. The mouthfeel is definitely heavenly! OVERALL: The aroma, flavor, and texture are all outstanding! However, for a beer with "Java" in its name, I was expecting the coffee flavor to be a bit more prominent. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to hunt for the coffee, but you do have to wait for the stronger flavors to abate a bit before you can taste it. And while I "think" I would like more coffee flavor, I'm pretty sure if it were increased it would throw off the otherwise, quite delicious flavor profile. So I will keep my mouth shut. Well, not completely shut, because I have another one chillin' in the fridge just begging to be consumed. :)
