Funny that their response is a desire to lower prices. My guess is that they are less interested in doing that for competitive reasons than to increase their margins. They know that a) their sales are going sideways no matter what they do and b) they aren’t going to recapture a meaningful amount of craft drinkers.

But as we’ve learned from American politics, those with the most power, when it is unearned, end up being the most fragile. I think it takes balls to make bad beer as a startup. Imagine how much balls it takes to make shitty beer on an industrial scale and base your entire operating strategy around lobbying for government handouts. Not sure I’d take that business plan to my boss, but that’s just me.
