Hey guys, I’m in London town for the next twelve days or so. I’m free most evenings while I’m down here, be cool to catch up with some of you guys if there are any beer events on or bottle shares etc, I’ve brought a few nice bottles to share if we get the chance. Reckon I’ll be hitting the Kernel on saturday, is there generally a ratebeer crowd there? Should I bring bottles? Are there any meet ups scheduled in the next couple of weeks? |
Unfortunately I’m away next weekend and mainly busy with non-beer stuff during the week. There’s a Tyne Bank meet the brewer / tap takeover tomorrow night at the Cask Pub & Kitchen but I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it along. |
Is anyone at CP&K tonight? Worth travelling across London for? |
I’ll take that for a no. Dragged my arse to the Royal Oak to again try the Kings new clothes beer that is Harveys Best. Certainly better than many times I’ve had it but I really don’t know what the fuss is about.Tangy, slight eggy note. Meh! A generous 2.9 because I’m not having to force it down. Your all mad I tell you! Mad! |
If you walk in the wrong door at The Royal Oak, it sends you into an alternative reality, marginally different from our own world, but crucially where the beers are poorly conditioned and the Sussex Best unremarkable. That’s the only explanation I can come up with to explain what happened Ken. |
Well in this alternative universe I wandered in to the bitter was a highlight. The Mild was a tangy appley mess and the Pale Ale is horrific. I guess like Harrisoni hates wood in his beers I’m never going to enjoy tangy eggy yeast. Bleh! |
I had the Mild on Sat and whilst unremarkable, there was no egginess and definitely no apple. |
Yes we all have different palates. Watching Dara O’Brien the other night, some people have an extra bitter receptor on their tongue which produces extreme reactions when exposed to something very bitter. I guess I have the, as yet undiscovered, extra shit beer receptor. Other opinions are, as always, available. |
