Great achievement Ian, you’ve grabbed your rightful place. |
Originally posted by harrisoni I suspect a fair few of the IPA ratings are in the wrong place. First of all there was the pasteurised export only bottle/keg India Pale Ale at 4.8% (now 5.0%). Then Fullers started making a different 5.3%, bottle-conditioned beer with the same name, specifically for the Scandinavian (Swedish?) market. That beer subsequently surfaced in the UK as Bengal Lancer. They are (or, at least, were) exactly the same beer. Then, of course, there’s the occasional UK-only cask version of India Pale Ale. All very confusing. And to top it off, I’ve heard that Fullers are no longer pasteurising any of their bottles, for the UK market at least - they are filtered but not pasteurised (apart from the ones that have always been bottle-conditioned). Guess I’d better check that out. If true they no longer qualify for separate listings. |
Well done Ian, shame I missed this live, but fun to read through. |
Great stuff Ian. Missed the live stuff due to my smartphone being repaired. |
3 cheers - well spotted, and well achieved! What other significant breweries are you king of? |

Originally posted by harrisoni You’d visit Erlangen?!? In any case, Fuller’s are often at the REWE with the new specialty beer section, as well as Bierothek, which also means in Bamberg. I do have some treats to send you, I’m just lacking a big sturdy box to pack it in! Won’t make it by Christmas, perhaps by New Year’s. |
Thanks Nick |
Perhaps you could put in duplicates if you have them so I can take them to the UK Cotteridge tasting in early March? If not no worries |
Originally posted by harrisoni I have put a list of the pre 20th Century British Brewers and the highest rater, on a seperate thread. |
