Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: 21 Anniversary Imperial ESB
22oz bottle pours a clear, garnet amber with a ring of white head. Nose has dried apple slices, booze, some candlewax, a little brandy/cognac, caramel, malt. Flavor follows, sweet malt and caramel, booze, bourbon, brandy, cognac, apples and pears, some bubblegum, some marzipan. Full bodied, boozy finish. A little messy. Might do well with a few months on it.

On cask, Ginger Man Boston. Deep copper colour, white foam. Quite malty, slightly crystal flavour, sweet background. Oily nice hop, some pine, some tropical fruit and berries. Defined bitterness, not obvious at first. Unusual one, not bad.

Poured black with a thin off-white head. Aroma is very nutty with some roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is full with lots of roasted malt and nuts. Some slightly fruity notes. Maybe some cherries. Finish is nice and roasted with great coffee flavors and bitter hops. Very nice complexity and flavor.

Great amber/brown color. Smell is strong of pumpkin, fall spices, malt, sugar, bourbon. Taste of pepper, fall spices.. with a hint of pumpkin. Not the smoothest selection.

Heavy Seas Pounder Pils
First off, I love a good pilsner. This one is a completely clear golden color with lots of streaming bubbles. Aroma is hay and whest. Flavor is crisp, with a nice toastiness. Finish is crisp as well, lingering straw and bread notes. This is a textbook pilsner. Very nice body and satisfying.

Heavy Seas Winter Storm (2005-) (Imperial ESB)
Deep amber beer with a medium foamy khaki head. Nose of candied nuts, dough, and light caramel. Flavor is quite a bit stronger with caramel malt, brown bread, and almonds finishing with a pronounced astringent bitterness. Flavorful beer.

I suppose as far as double IPAs go, itís as good as most. Nice big citrus and floral blast aroma. Heavy hop flavoring and strong bitterness. Thicker juicier sweet caramel malts a little more than expected. Just a bit much on the whole though. Has a harshness in the mouth, malt and hops fighting each other. Nice burnt orange color.

Heavy Seas Winter Storm (2005-) (Imperial ESB)
Beer of the Month Club selection. Clear amber with a small but solid head and spotty lace. Aromas of tea, toast, toffee and hints of leather and floral hops. Caramel malts and toffee sweetness up front offset by a hop kick that adds some bitterness. Medium body and carbonation, sticky oily mouthfeel and a sweet finish.

Deep dark brown with a moderate short-lived brown head. Aromas of strong coffee with chocolate, caramel, roasted malt and hints of dark fruit. Coffee flavors dominate, accompanied by dark chocolate with a hint of earth in the background and an assertive hop bite toward the finish. Medium body, minimal carbonation, silky smooth mouthfeel and a lingering coffee roast in the finish.

Bottles. Best by 06/17. Pours clear golden honey, white head. Aroma is straight Hawaiian punch and gummi bears. Some artificial tropical flavors galore. Flavor is sweet gummi bears, artificial grapefruit and strawberry, semi bitter grapefruit rind finish. But wow, what are they even doing adding this much artificial stuff to a beer?

Tap at Gambrinus. Pours a clear orange-gold with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Fruity pebbles, blood orange, tangerine & lime. Light & citrusy, fruity pebbles cereal. Light finish. Light bodied. Hmm, not sure about this one. Lots of fruit, but some malt backbone too.

Tap. Poured clear dark brown color with medium off-white frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium to heavy toasted dark malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted malt sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid brew.

Bottle. Clean clear pale yellow, fresh nose. Decent pils bite, nearing sharp bitter but never quite gets there. Pils bite increases and raises its hand near the middle. Good co2 as well, righ tto the end. Better than expected, was thinking it would be an over the top domestic wannah-bee of the old country but is fairly refreshing and civilized.

Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: 21 Anniversary Imperial ESB
Rich super hazy brown, copper, bronze and muddy ruby tinted body with a small single cetimetre tall tan head. Aroma of super pungent toasted malt and metal with fruits, earth, grain, yeast and smelling of a lot of alcohol. Full-bodied; Rich toasted malt flavours with a pungent grain and toffee flavour, coupled with a lot of medicinal and metallic flavours and ending with a nice warming alcohol sensation. Aftertaste is quite complex with flavours ranging from cereal to pit fruits, toffee, earth, apricots, caramel, oak and vanilla all with the big malt and sweet flavours, without too much bitterness. Overall, a nice beer that shows a stiff pungency at first, but after a few seconds, those will dissipate and leave a nice and rich palate in place for minutes to come. I sampled this ten ounce draught at Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 03-February-2017 for US$4,00 at the end of my driveway!

Bottle to snifter. Holy caramel aroma. Light pine hops. Double checked the best by date. Indeed. It is best before 4 months in the future. This is what some brewer thought would be a good dipa. Taste is super sweet, sugary, light diabetes, peppery alcohol. What the fuck. This is worse than bad homebrew made from three year old liquid extract fermented with bread yeast. Fuck this.

Crisp, copper coloured body with a nice thinnish, single centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of ridiculously strong pungent tropical fruits, oranges, mangoes, papaya, limes and grapefruits. Medium-bodied; Strong alcohol flavour at first with a pungent malt kick and a ton of hops right behind leaving behind a bunch of bitterness, but then the fruitiness completely takes over with grapefruit, oranges, limes, lemons, grass, mangoes and even some resin tucked away in this one, but the bitterness is intense along with the alcohol, which does show strongly. Aftertaste shows some bitterness from all the hops, a good deal of fruit from the residual unfinished sugars and a lot of grapefruity funk and alcohol pungency as well. Overall, perhaps the strongest fruity IPA iíve had in terms of actual fruit flavours, but the bitterness here from the combination of grapefruit, oranges and hop cones is intense, in a good way! Great to try and well worth sampling if you can get it! I sampled this 32 ounce growler fill from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 28-January-2017 for US$5,00 (best deal in Washington) sampled at home in Washington on 29-January-2017.

22oz bottle. Small beige head atop crystal clear garnet body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel/brown sugar, some rye/spicy, light orange. Taste is sweet, orange, caramel, some rye/alcohol. Sticky medium-full body, low carbonation. Once upon a time there were nip bottles, and this beer would be better suited for one of those than this bomber.

Pale orange with a nice head and lacing. Slightly hazy. On the nose a most interesting array of herbal, resinous hops and evident clove, bubblegum, banana and vanilla notes. There are some cheesy or basement things wafting as well. On the palate it is round, silky and full and very slightly bitter that is attenuated by the maltiness. Interesting. Not something I would personally go out and buy but unique.
