Heavy Seas / Cigar City Partner Ships IPL
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/6/2017. Pours crystal clear deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, lightly toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.8%. Overall this is an awesome DIPL! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Really awesome vibrant, juicy, and lightly dank hops; great balancing bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness. A really enjoyable offering. Loved the Simcoe/Mosaic hop presence.

Bottle from Whole Foods and Smith's. Pours hazy copper with laced white head. Nose is dry hoppy caramel malt. Tastes of caramel malt, hops, like a hoppier ESB. I find this better than most marzens, but then again, I am a hophead.

I had it on tap. It pours a hazy orange with a white head. The aroma is orange, mango, and pine. The taste is the same. As it warms, the alcohol becomes more pronounced. This is tasty. There's a lot of fresh fruit and hop flavor.

Very fruit forward, but with a fine hop bit in the finish. Clear golden color. Definitely an IPA and not a fruit beer.

Heavy Seas Peg Leg (Cherry Wood, Cherries, Cocoa Nibs)
On cask at Lizardville during the "Heavy Seas Kill The Cask" event on 08/10/2017. The beer is a dark brown color with a thick foamy tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, cherry and oak. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, cocoa, cherry and oak. The finish is malty with a cherry cordial aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Can from VE. Nose very sweet with citrus peel, seemingly coriander or at least the association. Pour clearish golden, rich with a dense and foamy off-white head. Taste relatively dry, certainly spicy, bready, medium bitterness (light bitterness left exposed, aided by spice) with lemongrass and a hint of toasted seeds, minor caramel only. Grainy wheat, otherwise reminiscent of Sammy's Summer Ale. [2017.09.08: 3.2]

Heavy Seas Treasure Fest
Decent American festbier, a bit overhopped and dry on the finish, but including a nice easygoing toffee-caramel heart that never grows too sweet. Needs to be a bit more indulgent to be a standout marzen; the bitterness on the back end kills the creamy malt vibe, leaving a seltzer-like fade devoid of much Oktoberfest goodness. Still, the malts are solid and the aroma's good.

Hazy ipa? A new style every day it seems. Indeed, it's a hazy orange pour with floating sediment. Aroma is citrus, with some apricot. Very nice orange/ apricot flavor. Moderately sweet, lingering orange zest. Hazy and tasty.

After Hains Point lap. Pours dark amber, modest tan head, aroma is pleasant bready malt, hints of caramel, hints of flowery hops. Lots of sweet malt and flowery spicy hops upfront, bitterness later and on the finish. Yeah, that could be tea. Mouthfeel is confusing, a little chewy, then light. Definitely drinkable.

12 oz bottle from NC consumed near BB date. Pours with a hazy amber body that is topped with a creamy, durable off-white head. Bright fruity aroma and very fruity flavor. In fact, this is so fruity, juicy and fresh tasting that one might think it was made with added fruit juice. Medium body and carbonation; semi-dry. Partly hidden alcohol.

Heavy Seas Double Cannon - Barrel Aged
Cask gravity at GBBF 2017, It pours cleat oily copper with minimal head. The aroma is rich oaky character, sticky, oily, orange marmalade, peach, candy and vanilla. The taste is slick, oily, rather bitter, pine, tannins, earth, oak, vanilla, orange marmalade, bit boozy alcohol hit, resin and mango. Medium - full body , low carbonation and oily mouth - feel. Could be done with more carbonation/better condition to lift the beer a bit. Good fun anyhow.

GBBF Day 1. Cask. Almost clear amber beer, bubbly cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, lots of bourbon, also smooth. Good bourbon soaked dried fruits. Modest spice. Some marmalade. Smooth spicy finish. Very bourbon. Thought this was BBA BW. DIPA? Maybe - but surely this is a BBA version?

Dandelion and grass nose. Crystal clear amber, thin head, good lace. Marigold, lillies, and hay. Light to medium body, easy carbonation. Pretty much spot on for this style and superbly crafted. Hoppy and strong, but retains its lager character. Hop selection pays homage to both IPAs and traditional lagers. A good example of what collaborative efforts can produce.

12oz bottle from Vintage Estate in Boardman. No bottle date. Pours a bright orange with some head. Aroma has sweet fruits, tangerine, light mango, light pineapple with some soft sweet malt. Taste is of sweet and juicy fruits, tangerine, pineapple, mango, with little malt presence. Quite hop forward. Less than medium bodied with little alcohol presence, the blend is quite good and there is soft carbonation. Finishes juicy sweeter than bittersweet. Enjoyed this one more down the glass than initially. 13.8
