Heavy Seas Dopple Sticke Alt
Large brown head that drops out quickly leaving some spotty lace behind, thin covering. murky brown color. Nose of honey, hint of molasses and licorice. Body is full, oily on the palate with a soft carbo, coating, a bit much. Sweet malts, light caramel and tobacco notes with a bit of earth and maple syrup and honey. Fairly sweet finish, light roast. Not an Alt beer really at least not like any Alt Iv,e ever had. draft from statelineliquors tap takeover.

Heavy Seas Deep Six
Bottle from Nate. Poured into a mug, the appearance was a black color with a lasting fingerís worth of white foamy head that fell off at a mild pace. Some lace, somewhat stringy and sliding. The aroma had some roastiness, coffee beans and grounds, light smoke, some black licorice - sweet and spicy tones, dark fruits, sweet wood, and a touch of cereal grain sweetness. The flavor was moderately roasty with a touch of the sweet trying to balance. And it does a pretty good job for the most part. Sly roasty aftertaste. Not much of a finish, somewhat roasty - somewhat sweet. The palate was almost medium bodied seeming to sit just a touch under and having a pretty good carbonation. ABV felt good. Overall, pretty good porter, I might be able to come back to.

Taps clear coppery amber with a thick and fine-bubbled buff head. Aroma presents resiny hops, floral, fruity and fresh malt notes. Bold , mouth-filling flavor offers pine, floral, citrus, sweet malt and subtle woody tones for an explosive IPA. Mouthfeel delivers firm, viscous body and peppy fizz. Will blow you away.

This beer is a clear orange-gold color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing. Tropical fruit, hops and malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of grapefruit, resiny hops and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a blood orange and hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Heavy Seas The Alpha Effect
Appearance: hazy deep gold with a massive fluffy off-white head diminishing rapidly to a persistent one finger cap that retains well, moderate chunky lacing. (4/5) Aroma: citrus, pine, pale and caramel malt, floral. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (8/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry lingering bitter finish. (4/5) Not quite what I was expecting - I was hoping for an NE-style IPA, which this isnít. But, itís pretty danged good, with lots of lingering bitterness. The lingering bitterness was also something I was hoping for based upon the name: I presumed the ďAlphaĒ referred to hop alpha acids, which it apparently did given the levels of haze. Appearance: clear deep gold with one finger of off-white creamy head, excellent retention and patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: sweet juicy oranges, pineapple, pale malt, pine, floral. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter, light tart. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry moderate bitter and slightly astringent finish. (3/5) No exaggeration, you could have this for breakfast. Loads of juicy citrus up front, yet the sweetness doesnít come across as cloying. Thereís an emphasis on citrus up front, but hints of pine and floral in the finish, accompanied by an almost oily citrus peel astringency. Good stuff! (15/20) 7.5/10 #ryansbooze ryansbooze.com

Bottle. Pours a clear copper body with a small fizzy white head. The nose is super fruity and juicy with a bright citrusy quality. Some light caramel maltiness under the hops, but the sweetness works well with the intense juiciness. The flavor is just as well integrated, bright fruit juice and citrusy hops with just the right amount of pithy bitterness to balance the fruit and sweetness. Some lingering grapefruit. Medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and just a slight clinginess. Really nice fruited IPA.

Bottle. Best by: 08/09/17. A murky copper pour with tons of nasty floaties and a smallish beige head. Grapefruits, zesty citrus rinds, caramel, dough, and wet cardboard in the relatively subtle aroma. Goes down medium-bodied and crisp. Dough, biscuity malts, and caramel upfront taste-wise. Grapefruits and citrus rinds finish things off. Piny. Quite juicy.

Thin light brown head of fine bubbles. Rich malty aroma with lots of caramel, brown sugar, chocolate covered cherries and a hint of peat. Color is a dark mahagony brown. Medium bodied with lots of roasted malts, more smokey and peaty notes, cucumber skins and dry grains, maybe rye. Mouthfeel is dryer than expected and lacks the sweetness you would expect based on the aroma and style. Light alcohol presence. Finishes dry and toasty with some lingering smokeiness. A pretty good old ale.

12 oz bottle stored cool but served a bit past the BB date stamp. Pours with a light copper colored body that has limited clarity. The head is large, foamy and durable and leaves patterned lacing. Aroma: less caramel than expected for style and more American hops. Flavor: toasted grains, hops and caramel Feel: medium+ carbonation and medium body. Overall: off-style, hoppy, Americanized version of the style, with a lower malt load than desired.

Another fruit IPA that seems to be well intentioned but ends up missing the mark. Known for a good IPA, not sure why I found this lacking in that department. Some malt is there, but this beer has too much fruit and then some piney notes come in for a surprise visit. Too scattered.

Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: 21 Anniversary Imperial ESB
22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/7/2016. Pours crystal clear medium ruby red/copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, vanilla, spicy rye, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of coconut, roast, raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/rye malt, rye whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, vanilla, spicy rye, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of coconut, roast, raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/peppery hop and rye/whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, vanilla, spicy rye, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/rye malt, rye whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent hop/rye/barrel flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitter/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and fairly sticky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is fairly well hidden; a pleasant warmth with minimal barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a great barrel aged imperial ESB style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/rye malt, rye whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. Feels more hoppy, tannic, and barrel influenced than last yearís similar style; but was just as impressive. A very enjoyable offering.

Crisp and clear golden and light copper coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall off-white head and a nice orange glow. Aroma of pale malt, a touch of grassy and slightly tropical hops, and very little else. Light-bodied; Grassy and very slightly herbal flavours noticeable along with a cardboardie malt note and a flavour of oranges near the end. Aftertaste is very mild and subdued with the light hop bitterness and almost nothing else noticeable. Overall, a decent beer at best - very watery with little flavour, especially for the style and on draught! I sampled this sixteen ounce pour on draught at Heavy Seas AleHouse in Arlington (Rosslyn), Virginia on 27-April-2017 for US$7,00.

4/25/17. Hazy orange pour under a nice khaki head, good lacing. Looks like a new age NE IPA, but isnít. Lightly dank aroma, floral. Bitter flavor, chalky, a touch abrasive, a touch of dank, not nearly juicy enough. Not bad, just not amazing or particularly new age.

Thin beige head of fine bubbles with minimal carbonation. Malty aroma with some smoked grains, rubber bands, sea salt and some vegetal aromas. Color is a medium golden brown. Not as malt forward as expected. More smoked grains, corn, sickly sweet malts, herbs. Bit if a grainy palate with a mild alcohol presence. This brew seems to be all over the place. Ok but probably would not seek out again.

Slightly drying from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.5%. Overall this is an awesome old ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, brown sugar, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV.
