The label quotes "complicated beer for difficult people" Thanks mom for sharing thus beer.... she must know me! A very pleasant stout beet. Almost black with small and quickly disappearing brown foam. It smells licorice, coffee and fruites. The taste is not as sweet as the smell tells you! A strong bitterness remains for a while! I was really happy to try this beer yesterday at the Pibar, Lausanne with Raoul. I am a lover of the stout and this one is a good one, classical, strong and simply well done, all the qualities that you could expect from one stout like the horse running ahead. The body is a pleasant black colour, deep with a perfect white and brown foam. At the nose, there are nice aromas of roasted malt and coffee. The first sip confirmed that it is a good job, the taste is delightful like a full moon that you are contemplating, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate in few quantity, hop. The finish is dry and mineral. It is the kind of beer that I could dry daily with pleasure.

33 CL bottle, served in snifter. Poured almost black with two finger tan head. Aroma: coffee, licorice, vanilla, dark Chocolate, dark fruit, roasted Malts. Taste is pretty much the same without anything else happening. I'm not getting Any of the other exotic ingredients that they are describing on the bottle, not in the taste nor in the aroma, bit of a letdown. Light tot medium body with bittersweet finish. Not bad overall but would not buy this again...

Pour ma 150ème néerlandaise, un petit choix personnel s’est naturellement porté sur cet impérial stout aux nombreuses particularités. Niveaux abv de 8,7 %, et ebu de 66 (à noter qu’ils sont différents de ce qui est enregistré sur ratebeer). Le reste des caractéristiques semblent lui identique : café, vanille, piment royal, baie de genièvre. A noter le houblonnage en continu pendant 2 heures avec du pilgrim, et un dry hopping avec ce même houblon. Mon exemplaire avait 14 mois de mise en bouteille, et pouvait allègrement attendre la fin de l’année, ou même bien plus, mais il devait représenter les Pays-Bas à mon 150ème … Donc fidèle au poste et courageux comme le cheval de l’étiquette, il a rempli sa mission … Couleur noir intense (122 ebc), à l’opacité très forte. Nappage brun clair soyeux et stable à 1 mm. Arômes de malt choco, baies noires, chicorée, pointe délicate de charbon. 1ère bouche très souple au remarquable ensemble café/baies/genièvre. Arrière-bouche complexe, longue, très fine. 2ème au superbe développement sur café et verdure (mais n’oublions pas que le café nous arrive vert avant torréfaction, donc pas d’incompatibilité ..). Arrière-bouche qui souligne bien le malt. 3ème à la remarquable harmonie café/myrte/houblon. Arrière-bouche longue, aux cent nuances. Longueur qui développe le tout, avec un point d’honneur sur le malt torréfié. Jambes huileuses, longues. Levure dense, boisée, très grande ligne. Alcool parfait, il surveille, dirige, organise, et ne laisse rien passer. Finale à la grande harmonie. CONCLUSION : très grand imperial stout, travaillé avec une grande délicatesse et un soin quasi maniaque sur le malt et le houblon. C’est superbe de nuances, et remarquablement bien fait.

Bottle from Mam and Dad’s Holiday, Netherlands. Inky black with a thin white head. It has a rich coffee, chocolate and vanilla flavour followed by oak, leather and bitter chocolate on the smooth finish. Very good.

Bottle. Black with a shade of brown. Minimal head. Light aroma of dark fruits first reminds me of a Doppelbock but then the smells of malts and chocolate kick in. Some smoke in there too. Taste is coffee, malts, dark chocolate and liquorice. Long lasting bitter hoppy finish with even more coffee and chocolate. Can’t detect the vanilla though...Balanced and well made even if the alcohol shines through. Lovely.
