The smell was roasty but subdued. The taste was also standard stout to me: roasty, no hops, good , dark, smooth.this was a nice beer.

This Stout has a very strong roasted malt flavor along with some coffee and chocolate to round it out. It has a smooth and smokey finish. I would have liked this Stout better if the roasted malt flavor and overall sweetness had been less intense. scoth (311), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 13, 2010 Pours dark brown and inky with a large tan head, very good clinging lacing. Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, figs, sugarcane and some light grassy notes. Medium-full body, velvety, and a bit sharp. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, bread, some plum mid-palate, and a long mild-bitter grassy finish. Well balanced. PJClarke (771), London, Greater London, England
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2010 A truly bad ass beer. A milky aroma with some good hop lurking back in there. It become full of delicious coffee and chocolate flavours. Super bitter dryness at the end from the delightful hopping. Hyper drinkable. Loves it. grimreaperguru (32), santee, California, USA

Black/brown color with an inch thick head and very heavy lacing. The beer looks extraordinary. Lots of burnt/roasted malt aromas along with nuts, heavy cream and mild chocolate. A very robust aroma indeed. Medium bodied, highly bitter and fairly creamy. Flavor is nutty and leads to a nice milk chocolate and toast angle followed by toffee and black licorice. Nice stout, it’s robust yet easy on the palate." TLNash886 (151), Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 7, 2010 12 oz bottle pours dark brownish black with a good spot of tan head into a pint glass. Aroma of cocoa, coffee, plenty of malt, roasty, faint hops detectable, toasted bread. Much more roasted malt than I remember, yum. Bitterness of the hops is nice and balances well. Finishes with baker’s chocolate, loads of espresso, bit of spice, slightly woody and earthy. Fluffy mouthfeel with medium carbonation; medium to full bodied. This is a hell of a lot nicer and fuller than I remember it being while still retaining decent drinkability. Very nice.
