Rich amber color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of smoky malt, & campfire; Flavor of smoky sweet malt, caramel, and some fruit; Overall, a little too sweet - but not bad.

Clear golden/bronze with a thin laceful white head. Aroma smells like roasted peat and a veggie and tofu-laden grill on a summers afternoon. Flavor is smokey and a little greasy, yet also with a decent kick of toasted cereal grains and peat.

Clear dark copper - thick lace - nose and flavor are a nice showcase for the smoke - body is creamy, with soft carbonation - moderate sweetness, with a touch of bracing acidity and bitterness, but the star of the show is thr campfire smokiness - very earthy and woody throughout - not as intense as schlenkerla urbock in the smoke department - if only it were, I would rate it even higher - even so, a great rauchbier.

Pint at the brewery. I can’t get over how good this is. It’s a clean, smokey lager in all honesty. It’s copper in color. Aroma is not overpowering, but it’s not very subtle either. Crisp campfire notes with bacon fill my nostrils with token crackery malt. Nice solid meaty smoke in the flavor with crisp, clean lager notes. Honestly I thought this was not going to be great, but I love this stuff. The finish smolders and no flaws get in the way. If it were more smokey, I would start to bring out the Schlenkerla comparisons. . . .but it’s not.

On tap at Sandlot. Pours a light yellowish-amber color with a small white head that fades. The aroma is nice, with bacony smokiness and pale malt to back it up. The flavor has mild pale malt sweetness - like a helles or golden ale - and fairly well-done smoked bacon flavors. A little caramel in there as well. Medium-bodied, maybe a little on the thinner side, with average carbonation. This was the best beer I had at Sandlot, not that that’s saying much. A subtle and drinkable smoked beer.

GABF 2010. Pours a clear deep golden with a thin lasting sticky head. Aroma is cold smoke, meaty, slight medicinal and phenol. Flavor is toasty malts, light sweetness, cold smoke, meats, campfire, a bit harsh. I feel like this was way better last year, but I didnt have notes from last year on this one. Ok.
