Of course he would have been a disaster but playing a major role in causing this mess and then walking away from it because Gove and his missus wrong-footed him playing politics is churlish.

If anyone wants proof that stupid people can also be highly intelligent they can either visit a university or follow Boris Johnson. His mother should have been stopped.

Australia has compulsory voting and it seems to work OK. Although some people will just vote for candidates in the order they are listed on the ballot paper, which is called the ’donkey vote’. The conservatives are already running the country in UK and it’s already disaster and set to get worse. Seems like Boris worked out the numbers and pulled out as he wasn’t going to win.

Is it possible to spoil votes in the Australian voting system

The votes are counted by electoral officers with scrutineers checking them. A preferential system is used where you number all the candidates on the ballot paper

So in theory a compulsory vote could be spoiled which to be honest would be a better alternative to the "Donkey Vote" you mentioned earlier.

It can’t be a compulsory vote then, only a compulsory turn up at the polling station and do what the fuck you like. Draw a prick on the ballot paper, or wipe your arse with it.
Making voting compulsory sounds like a politician’s ego trip gone wrong.

I don’t see how they could make it compulsory in that way when the voting is anonymous i.e. no-one sees what you do with the ballot paper and it’s not meant to be traceable back to you. In Australia you can write or draw what you like on the ballot, or not even fill it in and put it into the ballot box, then it’s classed as a spoiled vote. You can do the same thing here in the UK if you wanted.
