Gritty McDuffs Vacationland Summer Ale
Draught. Pours a light cloudy amber with a quickly fading off white head. Aroma is of orange, hint of spice, bread, copper, earthy. Taste is of caramel, copper, earthy, metallic finish, hint of rye like spice. Watery mouthfeel, light carbonation.

Gritty McDuffs Maine’s Best IPA
Definitely not the best IPA in the great state. Orange amber clear pour. Herbal resin caramel aroma. Taste is a bit shocking, overly sticky caramel earthy flavor. Modest bitterness.

Gritty McDuffs Maine’s Best IPA
12 oz. bottle. Color is a caramel maghony with weak lasting white head. Aroma weak earthy pine and herbal notes.

Taste needs some help. Caramel toffee base with a slightly sticky texture. (WAY too much crystal malt) The hops are overly herbal and bold pine. The hops just come off astringent. Maybe I had an older bottle but… I doubt it. Sugar and astringent hops, no thanks.

This is the closest American Stout I’ve had to my Gold Standard(Guinness Draught:) Just wish I could get it in PA as I’ve only had this Maine brewed beer in the New England area.

Bottle. It poured a clear golden color with a white head. The aroma was of citrus, grapes and some pine. The taste was similar to the aroma with more citrus, pine, hops and some sweetness. Not bad.

Cask at GBBF ’15, day 3, 13/08/15. Had this juan at the brew pub in ’05 pre RB days! Golden copper with a decent egg shell white covering. Nose is nutty, toffee, biscuit malt, fruit peel. Taste comprises mellow fruit, caramel, light spice, airy malt base, biscuit crumble. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a bitter bite. Decent enough bitter.

Sample at brewpub. I'm probably not the first to say this but what a terrible fucking name for a beer especially if you don't deliver the goods. I wonder how many breweries started in Maine just to disprove this name. Anywho pours golden with a white head. Not much on the nose or tongue. Kind of dull for style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Quite a nice bitter - sweet balance. Not too shabby.

Cask, gravity dispense at GBBF 2015. Dark orange, still, small foamy white head. Aroma is resinous, toffee, gluey. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is gluey, toffee, resin with some caramelised fruits. It’s a fairly accurate copy of a mediocre traditional British bitter. Not what American breweries have become famous for, but OK in its own right.

Light caramel malt aroma, reminds me of an English pale ale. Clear copper body topped with light covering for a head. Moderate caramel nut taste with lots carbonation. Dry finish with a touch of sourness. Felt kind of average for the style. Seems to come up short. I would have added something for a subtle dab something sweet.

Gritty McDuffs Black Fly Stout

Gritty McDuffs Lions Pride Brown Ale (Best Brown Ale)
On tap at the brewpub. A deep amber colored beer, clear beer with a small off-white head. The aroma is quite cellar-ish, with dusty malts, bread and some caramel. The flavor is pretty much the same, but with a touch fruits. Medium body, very smooth on the palate, quite dry. Malty finish. Rather boring for a brown ale, easy drinkable though. 150609

On tap at the brewpub. Close to black in the glass, topped by a dense, two-finger beige head. The aroma is quite roasted, close to bonfire, with some chocolate and coffee grit. It’s dry on the palate, still it feels sort of milk stout sweet. Roasted bitterness, some hops, prunes and a good dash of burnt malts. Very smooth on the palate, medium body. Long burnt finish. Quite lovely. 151609
