Library Dunkelweizen
The appearance was a muddled orange to brown color with an off-white thin foamy head. Moderate messy lace. The aroma had a rich sweet bready malt bold and up front with some grassy hops backing that up. A light floral hoppy bitter quality comes in. The flavor had the sweet malt up front with some milk chocolate tones and then some nuttiness. Crisp chocolatey to bready malts in the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable sort of unyielding sweet stickiness on my tongue, almost cloying, but yes, this is pretty sticky. Overall, well, banana notes and wheat bite are totally missing. Also, seems like it’s a bit overly hopped for a dunkelweizen. And why is that nuttiness and chocolatey qualities rolling about. Honestly, for some odd reason, I really didn’t mind this as is, just for me. But true dunkelweizen fans will surely be disappointed.

Library Black Lager
The appearance was a soft mostly black color with a two finger white foamy head that left some stringy lace. The aroma had some nuttiness with a soft German yeasty/bready malt. Some roast and coffee beans deep underneath. Dark chocolate even farther underneath. The flavor leads with the German yeasty/breadiness semi-sweetly with a firm robust black malt. Some bittering grassy hops. Lingering dark bready aftertaste gripping the finish in the same way. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a fair sessionable sort of smooth feel rolling about and keeping the malt bill to want to just lay down on my tongue. Overall, pretty good schwarzbier really ensuring that the German yeast takes the lead. I’m quite impressed as not many American brewers can really pull off this style this well.

Library Small Boat Oatmeal Stout
Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a black color with a soft white foamy one finger head. Quick dissipation. Sly lace. The aroma had some sweet oats, dark chocolate malts, roasty coffee and a light pecan roastiness. The flavor blended the previously mentioned aromas somewhat together bringing about a sly sweet end of black licorice, not necessarily the spicy part, but the sweet side of the licorice. Roasty pecans come back but also seem to meld into the aftertaste with some roasty coffee bean. Sly roasty and malty finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable sort of feel trying to coat my tongue with a semi-silky smooth way. Mild carbonation. Good ABV. Overall, it works as an oatmeal stout with some extra intricacies coming about. Worthy of another pour.

Library Amber Lager
Poured into a pint glass, the appearance had a ruddy burnt amber color with a delicate transparency about it. Sly carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace to fill a slim finger’s worth of white foamy head. Filmy lace. The aroma had a semi-sweet bready to nutty malty quality. Some grassy hops. The flavor tried to blend the hops to the malts but seems like the malts come out on top. Wisps of the hops in a biscuity to bready aftertaste. Dry quick finish, somewhat nutty. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. Swift semi-sticky notes glide along my tongue. Overall, decent Vienna lager that I could come back to if I was in the area.

Library Java Stout
Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a nice finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Sly stringy lace. The aroma centered around dark roasty coffee beans, robust cocoa bean, rugged dark chocolate nibs and a dry chalky caramel malt very far underneath. The flavor yielded nicely to the roasty sweet blend of the prior mentioned aromas but leaving out the caramel malts. Roasty sweet and chalky aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine along my tongue. Overall, fairly nice dry stout and it is quite dry. Still, I would have again.

Every brewpub has to have a signature beer, this could be the one for The Library. Dark and smoky, bitter and biting, black as engine oil and just as slick. Hints of dark chocolate and espresso. A sipper for sure.
