Shaftebury Strong Lager
Sweet and overpowering it’s not good but you can choke it down, is it better than the other stuff in this price and % range? I’d rather not compare directly but it’s probably pretty smooth for the strength.

473ml can from TAGliquorstores. Pours clearish brown with white head. Caramel, some vanilla. Just thin body, with better body this would be so good.

Tree Redwood Amber Ale
Sampled at Hopscotch 2023, pours A clear amber with a small beige bead. Aroma is dry, with dry bready malt and a hint of caramel. Flavour is dry and malty, with bready malt and toasted caramel. Nothing special but drinkable enough. Meh.

Tree Alpine Apricot Sour
473 ml can poured at home. Day 10 of the Costco beer advent calendar. Pours clear golden with a thin white head. Smells like apricot and lemon. Taste is not as sour as I thought it would be. Little bit of apricot finish and some slight tartness.

Shaftebury Four Twenty Brilliant Lager
Weird but not terrible to my taste, especially for the price. It's definitely not your typical lager, there is considerable malt and a creaminess going on. It does taste darker than a typical lager, and it looks a bit darker almost amber. There is some vegetal funk maybe slightly decaying that doesn't come across as desirable at first, but it's not that bad overall especially when cold. If it didn't have that vegetal funk this might taste better at warmer temperatures. Is this almost like a cream or amber lager? warm can: bad

355mL can at wrestling show. Vegetables, skunk, bad beer. First thought was wtf, then I looked at other ratings and realized that is just what this beer is….

Tree Hophead Black IPA (2020 - )
Dark brown. Frothy head. Looks appetizing. The aroma hints at a thin, toasty beer. There's decent body. It's got a worty note, and some sort of harsher toasty notes. There's a decent bitterness but no meaningful hop aromatics. I don't mind this interpretation of Black IPA. It's not my favourite take but I can appreciate it for what it is, even if the execution seems a bit off.

Tree Hophead Juicy Hazy IPA
Cloudy but quite dull. So it doesn't look good. Thick head. On the nose, sort of a citrus/pine aroma, and yeasty. On the palate, it's okay. There's light bitterness. The malts are weak and the hops lack any distinctive character. I mean, that's an odd hop mix for a hazy IPA, and as it turns out, going off the board doesn't work this time. All told, it's not bad, but definitely below the mean for this style.

Tree Hophead Red IPA
Reddish-brown colour, some haze. Looks like a fermentation issue. Medium head. The aroma is a bit buttery, a touch toasty. Same on the palate - this leads with diacetyl. Not much hop character, either bitterness or anywhere else. Sloppy work for a brewery that can do better.

Modest light gold body and no real foam, mostly sweet apple aroma though with some slight skin bitterness. Flavour is modest apple, soft sweetness. Decent carbonation. Unexceptional BC cider but still okay in that macro kind of way.

Smells of soft banana and pineapple, has cloudy yellow body with minimal foam. Flavour is nice banana, bubble gum, soft pineapple. Mouthfeel is full and chewy. This is nice, a little artificial but so much better than the other bland offerings I've been trying from them.

I personally love it. I enjoy dry cider and it’s one of the best I’ve had. I enjoy the fact it’s so slow in carbs and sugar too; it’s not too sweet and I don’t feel bloated after having it.

Tree Hophead India Pale Ale
On tap at the brewery. Murky brown body and minimal head, smells like sweet malts and honey. Flavour is more honey and malt - missing the hop character. I like IPAs with malt character but this has no hops to be seen, little bitterness, too sweet, too corporate.
Earlier Rating: 4/9/2016 Total Score: 2.9
Orange-gold body with good head. (That’s what she said! Ha!) Malty hop aroma, not too bad, not too expert either. Flavour is soft hops and weak hint of malts. Very subdued, preferred the double better. Give this to your friends at the barbeque and keep the strong one behind the bar for yourself.

473 ml can.pours a turbid hazy pink with little head. Aromas of creasote, burn rubber, and dry herbal raspberries. Just awful... Flavors of lemon wax, industrial cleaner and hints of candied raspberries. Not a good rendition. Picked up at a BCLS store. Does anyone there sample first?

Tree Kim-Ach Touch
Dark brown in color with reddish highlights to it, looks clear aside from some floating chunks of sediment in it and pours with a finger of tan colored coarse, bubbly head that has a poorish retention to it and leaves a moderately lacy patchwork on the glass. Rich sweet malt aroma with odd fruity hints of something like grape jelly, some faint weedy hop notes on the back-end. Malty sweet flavor forward with some slightly fruity notes of dark grapes or plums as well as faint hints of crushed pomegranate juice and acidic coffee. Slightly higher then average carbonation to it, Medium/ heavy bodied base with a dark malty sweetness to it, like a very dark brown bread and sorghum syrup with faint notes of chocolate, pecans and toasted coconut. Back-end is surprisingly hoppy with a mild to moderately bitter finish, weedy with faint bitter tropical hints with a bitter citrus peel and green mango flavor to it.

Tree Hophead India Pale Ale
On tap at the brewery in Vancouver. A darker amber beer with a beige head and a faint and frankly weird malted nose. More weirdness on the palate. What to say? It suggests a trace of whiskey barrel, though it clearly has no business doing so. Anyway, pleasantly weird. 3.6

November 24, 2012: Small bottle at Hops in New West. Little head or nose here. A nice reddish amber color. There are some sharp and bitter hops up front, but backed by substantial malts as well. Nice balance. Nice overall. July 30 2020: On tap at The Met in New Westminster. Huge hop and malt components. One of the best IPAs ever.

Tree Cutthroat Pale Ale
2014 rating. Pours a huge frothy off-white head and has a rusty amber looking appearance. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of citrus hops and sweet, honey malts. Flavours are quite hoppy, with notes of cascade and golding hops. Malts are mainly Munich. Quite sweet with more notes of honey. Some very subtle hints of caramel as well. Good balance of sweetness and bitterness. Medium bodied. Great retention.

Tree Kelowna Pilsner
Vancouver 25/7 2018. 47,3 cl can from BC Liquor Store in Valemount. Yellow can with a fence positioned on top of a landscape with a Lake in British Columbia. The person who designed this Can seems to be quite confused. Pours clear yellow with medium-sized white head. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam completely obscuring the surface of the beer. Substantial Lacing. Aroma is not especially intense. Sweet malts, butter. Moderate hoppiness. Grassy. Medium carbonation. Thin, lively and prickly texture. Flavor has medium sweetness. Followed by stronger bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter. Lingers shortly. Simple pilsner-style beer. A tad sweet but nicely balanced by a notable bitterness.

Vancouver 24/7 2018. 47,3 cl can from BC Liquor Store in Valemount. Green can with a fence positioned on top of a landscape with a Lake in British Columbia. The person who designed this Can seems to be quite confused. Pours slightly hazy amber with big white head. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam completely obscuring the surface of the beer. Substantial Lacing. Aroma is not especially intense. Sweet caramel, light roast. Some hops peeking in with sour bitter dryness. Light carbonation. Thin, lively and prickly texture. Flavor has fairly strong sweetness. Followed by moderate sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a touch of caramel. Lingers shortly. Solid take on a EPA. A little confusing that they call it a “West Coast Ale”
