BeardedAvenger	3.4 Grain California Common Can from Suffolk Food Hall, nr Ipswich. Aroma is sweet and malty. Jammy edge. Clear amber. Foamy translucent white head. Medium bitter grains soon followed by a wave of juicy citrus. Underlying caramel malts. Gradually takes on sweetness. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft carbonation. Grumbo	3.3 Grain Red Nelson 27/9/2023. Cask at the Spread Eagle, Ipswich. Pours clear dark amber brown with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, bread, malt, hints of white grape, gooseberry and cooking chocolate. Medium sweetness and moderate developing bitterness. Medium body, very soft carbonation. ManVsBeer	3 Grain Empire Slate Bottle from Hopsters, Ipswich. Almost black with an extremely thin head. Velvety smooth in texture, its strength seems to usurp an recognisable porter taste, although dark malts are evident in its aroma. Thursday, June 29, 2023
nathanvc	2.9 Grain / Braxatorium Parcensis Strangers No More 20 May 2023. At Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Shared with the lovely Anke! Keg. A: hazy brown, big, frothy, tan head. A: peanut, chestnut, old brown bread, mocha, butter. T: sweetish apple, chestnut, old brown bread. F: earthy hops, diluted mocha, nuts. P: light to medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Alengrin	3.6 Grain Slate Smoked porter – the concept so brilliantly pioneered by Allagash in the nineties – as interpreted by this craft brewery in old England. At LIBF. Pale yellow-beige, moussy, slowly breaking but generally well-retaining head on a very dark chestnut brown robe, almost black but not quite, with hazy, ruddy-red glow. Aroma of cigar ashes, old brown bread crust, smoked mackerel but with the emphasis on actual smoke rather than fish (or meat), a barbecue in full swing, hard caramel, walnut shells, dry leather, tea, dry forest floor. Dry onset, dried apple peel and burnt raisins, very low in sweetness with medium carbonation; beef stock-like umami comes up much stronger than any sweetness, accompanying a dry, nutty, hard-caramelly and brown bread-crusty malt core with continuous toasty bitterness at its sides, while an eventually indeed pronounced ‘ashy’ smokiness grows, aided by leafy hops. Dry, ashy, charcoal-y Rauchbier form of an oldskool English brown ale – simple, but solid. Thursday, May 25, 2023

Flows into creamy coffee. Medium bodied. Creamy but watered down. Flat-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Nice. jybi	3.6 Grain Empire Slate Merci à Grumbo pour cette découverte. Ce Smoked Imperial Porter me laisse circonspect. Avec un fumé pas trop développé, fin et bien intégré (ce qui est rare), il aurait eu tout pour me plaire sir la base avait été plus riche, dense et complexe. Sa texture très fine, ces arômes linéaires, manquant de vivacité et de présence nous font finalement être quelque peu frustrés. LE visuel est sur un noir total, sans mousse ni effervescence. Le nez est sur un cocktail, sans éclat de chocolat, café et caramel agrémentés d'une pointe fumée. A l'attaque, de légères épices apparaissent, sur une dominante chocolat, caramel avec en complément café et un fumé aux relents de charbon tout de même. La deuxième bouche est marquée de son astringence, avec une légère acidité et des arômes plats. L'alcool à 9,3 % est bien intégrée mais manque de nervosité. L'amertume est pour sa part bien dosée (base de Herkules, First Gold, Progress, Cascade). Le manque de corpulence est notable est l'arrière bouche n'amène rien de nouveau. Le final est un peu plus intéressant, d'une bonne longueur, avec des arômes de café, chocolat et caramel qui reprennent les dessus et sur une jolie amertume mais sur une platitude toujours aussi affligeante. Intense, roasty and chocolately, slightly smoky, dark malty aroma, condensed notes of dark chocolate, couverture, dark cocoa, dark caramel, whiffs of ashes, marmite, barbecue sauce. Taste is roasty, slightly smoky and chocolately, dark malty, moderately bitter roasty, notes of dark chocolate, couverture, hints of ashes, dark caramel, burnt caramel, a touch of leather, peat, tar; minimally warming finish. Oily texture, smooth and soft, slightly cloying palate, fine, soft to flat carbonation. Intense and condensed, nice smoky flavours, relatively drinkable, a tad too simple and monotonous overall - acceptable. Sunday, June 20, 2021

Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average duration, pale malt, sweet malt, fruity malt, apple notes. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat.
