DraftDodger	3.8 Hanssens Oude Schaarbeekse Kriek Copenhagen 15/4 2024. 37,5 cl bottle with a cork stopper from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Jyllingevej, Vanløse, The label is made out to look like a old sheet of pergament. Pours opaque, murky burgundy with a small white head. Bubbly. Disappears complemte after a few seconds. No lacing. Aroma is fairly intense with a light odor if sweet berries soon overpowered by a stronger, tart scent of unripe fruit. Sweet cherries, vanilla and marzipan. Tart sour berries. Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, lightly tingling texture. Flavor is intense with a light sweetness followed by a strong tart and searing sourness. Aftertaste is sour and tangy. Lingers for a while. Finish is tart and dry. A Kriek with only a modest redeeming sweetness. Monday, April 15, 2024

Certainly strawberries to the fore, sharp and fresh then a lemon juice character to it. This is full on sourness but pretty decent with it. Wednesday, April 10, 2024

Aroma is tart raspberries, jammy, strawberries, woody, touch herbal, hedgerow. Nice tartness. Medium sweetness. Moderate body, a little syrupy, light carbonation. Quite likeable. Aroma is swet and tangy, jammy sticky strawberry, some funk, lacto, spicy strawberry. Intense strawberry jam even after 10 years. Flavour is composed of super sour, puckering, lemon juice, jammy strawberry, spicy lacto, Palate is semi sweet, spicy, mid pucker, mellow carbonation. Some acid burn in the finish. Alengrin	3.9 Hanssens Succubus New geuze blended by Hanssens for their fellow villagers of the Boelekewis restaurant, constructed in December 2022 from lambics brewed at Boon and Lindemans. Big thanks to tderoeck for sharing! Snow white, moussy, opening head on an initially clear, warm orangey golden robe, turning into a misty apricot blonde as the bottle is emptied. Aroma of dusty attic, green gooseberries, apple vinegar, dried mushrooms, old wood, moss, dry leather, bitter garden herbs, stale sweat, unripe green kiwi, dry forest floor. Sharpishly tart, lemony onset, a tad acetic even, lots of unripe gooseberry, green plum and green apple astringency with lively carbonation - the sourness slightly reduced a bit further on by a ripe kiwi-like fruity sweetishness hidden within the sourness; this sourness, however, remains sharp and edgy throughout, piercing a bready core into a tannic finish with drying lactic acidity joining the sharper acetic aspect, but also earthy, musty, funky Brett effects. Altogether enjoyable geuze, even if a somewhat less 'neig' character could bring improvement (and this goes for many other Hanssens lambics today as well, I guess) - but who knows how this will evolve over time. Accomplished, in all, but a side by side tasting with Hanssens' own geuze could, perhaps, prove interesting. I should visit this Boelekewis restaurant one day - I heard a lot about it through the years, but have not made it there so far. Tuesday, January 2, 2024

colui72	4.2 Hanssens Experimental Cassis Fresh blackcurrants have been macerated in young lambic in oak barrels and fermented in the bottle. On the nose, a lot of blackcurrant, funky barnyard from Brett, some citrus and apple notes. Pours ruby, hazy, a lot of tiny bubbles that lace on the glass even under-beer (no, not the bubbles of a dirty glass, something different). Small white head with high retention. Sour, acetic, with strong blackcurrant and barnyard or horse-sweat as you wish, oak notes. Dry, low sweetness. Light body, lively fine carbonation, low astringency. Very acidic, acetic and punchy, but easily drinkable. Very well made. Wednesday, November 29, 2023

Clear pale to medium amber colour, good frothy white head, slowly diminishing, leaving some yeast circles, light lacing. Aroma sour, fruity, green apples, vinegar, horse blanket, brett, woody notes. Mouth filling sweet and sour taste, brett, unripe prunes, lemon zest, green apples, vinegar notes, some yoghurt, some wood. Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, dry but also fruity sweet and sour aftertaste, light bitter notes in the finish, rich and tasty geuze, what a joy, excellent stuff. The flavour is very acidic, but there is a lot of fruit in it. Not dry as such, but more acid than sweetness. Good acetic notes, lots of blackcurrant. Acetone finish. Bites my throat a bit.
